  • A lot of people were upset back in the day when the Nintendo 64 released this game. This is NOT what we were led to believe would come out for this new system at the time. But regardless, it’s what we got. How was this version of KI2, which was titled KI Gold instead? Watch as I check it out after all these years.
    Enjoy!

    Killer Instinct Gold is essentially a remake of the arcade game and not a port. Rare had to take out all the FMVs and just recreate everything in 3D. For the stages, the environment had to be recreated in 3D using textures and polygons and for the intro and outro they had to used 3D render still images with zooming effects. Like what you said the only thing I don't like is that they took out most of the announcer's speech from the first game so no shouting during Triple, Super, Blaster, etc., combo and I believe the reason they took it out was cause they thought it may sound annoying to most gamers so they only left in Ultra, Combo Breaker and Ultimate only.
    The only other thing that annoy me about the arcade version of Killer Instinct 2 is the same thing that annoy me about Super Street Fighter II Turbo, there's no way to choose the default color of your fighter. Every time you play you always get one of the alternate color instead, it wasn't until the home versions that they finally allow you to pick the default color. In Super Street Fighter II Turbo the only way to pick the default color outfit is to use a code to pick their classic style and while that allow your fighter to wore the default color outfit, you can't perform super combos as they took out the meter. It really is kinda lame that they do that.

      KI Gold is a port, not a remake. N64 was not even designed for 2D games. Thus all 2D games run on 3D invisible objects with 2D sprites put on them.
      You actually can choose the default color of your fighter in KI2. I do not know why you make such a claim that you can't.

      Yep, KI Gold is a port/retooling of KI2 and, despite everything that was cut from the Arcade version (The aforementioned FMVs, animation frames, Jago's 'resurrection' move, & Spinal's other 'Ship' stage), it remains one of my favorite & most-played N64 games.

The blood is very different, at least the drops hitting the ground are. I really wish we had gotten KI1 on N64. This is a really impressive use of the hardware though. @@BushyStallionyou’re right, I have some odd fascination with the blood splatter in games haha! I noticed that myself. I think I thought it was so cool to see blood in fighting games that I studied it. I remember MK’s drops always being fairly standard on MK2-UMK3. Then KI always had a big variation in how the blood landed and reacted. KI2 was identical. SNES KI was almost exactly the same as the arcade but KI Gold is very different. Im like a forensic investigator for arcade blood drops! 😂

      @@KillerArcadeGames KI Gold is different because it works on 3D engine as N64 can't render 2D graphics like SNES did. So all sprites are put on invisible 3D objects. Thus those 3D objects are moving and not sprites like in KI on SNES for example.

Some dude tried to beat him. Big pack of people surrounded us and started watching. Fight was even. After 1st round the challenger was winning. 2nd round he dealt a final blow to Jago, Jago fell to the ground. Guy turned around to celebrate with friends but as he did this Jago rose from the dead. He came back to life like a ghost. My friend pummeled him, the dudes friends were like "yo turn around hes alive" all shocked. by time the dude knew what was happening the fight was over. And I never knew about how these fighting games could actually work (like pre-queuing a joystick motion move during the Fight! announcement or rapid-tapping jab let alone knowing how to use invincibility frames to your advantage).

    • @VOAN
      @VOAN 3 месяца назад

      They basically are the same game just that the arcade version used FMV for backgrounds, versus, and win screens. The N64 version used 3D polygons for the backgrounds and render images for the intro and outro screen. Also what's so confusing about the N64 controller? You got six buttons on the face and KI use the same six button layout as Street Fighter II, it's not too confusing to know that B and A buttons are weak attacks, C Left and C Down buttons are mid attacks and C Up and C Right buttons are heavy attacks. All the upper buttons are punches and all the lower buttons are kicks. L and R buttons are shortcut buttons. If you ask me the N64 controller fit fighting games more so than the PlayStation controller in some aspect.

    Killer Instinct 1 *should've* been released on the N64. Not the SNES. They even promoted it on the Killer Instinct arcade cabinet that it was coming to the Ultra 64 aka N64 🤦‍♂️.

    • @VOAN
      @VOAN 3 месяца назад +2

      It was suppose to be a launch title for the Ultra 64 and its CD-based add-on. That's why the arcade game was promoting the Ultra 64 but Nintendo kinda screw up the N64 launch. For one it's no longer called the Ultra 64 anymore. Secondly, the CD-based 64DD add-on got delay, then the N64 console itself got delay to late 1996. That's when Rare says screw it let's just port it to Super NES instead using the DKC engine and focus more on the gameplay over graphics and for a while it does work. The game came with the Killer Cut music CD and a black Super NES cartridge that is very unique. The game was very fun but most player felt like they got rob of a better version.

      @@VOAN There was no CD add on planned for 64. 64DD is a floppy based add on. And it was Nintendo who decided to have KI on SNES. They financed and commissioned Rareware games. And no there is no such thing as DKC engine. I do not know why you even come up with such claims.

    I remember seeing this game in the magazines and been disappointed because I wanted a 3D fighting game , I never played it in arcades though but I did got it and the game is one if not the best fighting game on the system (n64 sucks in the fighting game department 😭) something funny happened to me with this game, I was at a friend house we were playing n64 it was like 7 years ago, I went and put this game but it didn’t booted, I was in shock my KI gold wasn’t booting but every other game did, after fiddling around I found out what happened, I had in my controller my 2 in 1 tremor pak and memory card, the one with the switches to select one or the other, well guess what , I don’t know why but that thing wasn’t letting the N64 boot the game, I had to take it out of the controller 😂 weird

    KI Gold... yeah, just like SNES KI, if you don't play on a high difficulty won't give you the full ending or no ending at all, TJ Combo and Sabrewulf have a cheesy way to defeat opponents with one particular Shadow Move that if you catch your rival off-guard, you can stun them with that Shadow Move and then proceed with the out of combo Ultimate (Sabrewulf with the bats and Combo with his Machine Gun)... this is veeery stupid if you enable early Ultimates in the options menu because as soon as you get the Shadow Move to stun your opponent, you can proceed to end the match even when their 2nd lifebar is too high for the finisher under normal rules (Ultra Combos still has to be done like usual, but remember that if you get Ultra'd, there's a slim chance that you might have enough Shadow Meter to perform the Ultra Breaker at the first 3 to 5 hits of said combo to give yourself one last chance to turn the tables of the match).

      Quality of music in KI Gold is better than in KI2. And it is in stereo. KI Gold is quite a good port if take to account that it was developed in a very short period of time (KI2 was released in the beginning of 1996 and N64 development kits were provided likely in mid 1996. So if Rare was developing anything before, it was based on assumed specs of N64), devs were learning how N64 and dev kits work in practice, that cartridge memory size was limited.
