  • Flinders-based weaver Emma Shepherd talks about how her work is informed by the raw materials she uses. Emma shows us how she winds the warp with yarn and chains the yarn to stop it from getting tangled, before threading on the loom. She demonstrates a dense, tight weave and a loose weave and discusses how she is currently fascinated by fishing nets and transparency through cloth, and how she's experimenting with space and openness. See how she spaces the warp out so the weave is more like an organic net. Emma seeks spontaneity in her work and allows for the raw materials to inspire the outcome.
Emma Shepherd's exhibition Sundance Studio: Taking a thread for a walk is on at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery 2 March - 12 May 2024.
