I've been aware of the Heritage Ascent guitars for 6 months. I held one in my hands when I traveled to Singapore earlier this year. It feels similar in build to an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, with bolt-on neck and hard poly finish. Here's some additional information you might like to know - Heritage Guitars is now owned by the same Singapore company that also owns MONO & Harmony. They also own Swee Lee, the largest guitar retailer in Southeast Asia. A USA Heritage H-150 that sells for US$2600 in USA, sells for US$4200 at Swee Lee in Singapore. I'm not sure if they ever intend to sell the cheap Heritage imports outside of Asia. In Singapore, you can buy the Heritage Ascent for US$220, and if you find that you like it, they will let you trade it up for a real Heritage guitar, i.e. you take US$220 off the price of the USA Heritage when you turn it in for the USA guitar.
I've been intrigued by them for sure, i suppose because Swee lee can't carry Gibson and Epiphone anymore they needed to try selling this since they own the Heritage brand anyway
The price differences between Kalamazoo made Heritage sold in the US vs Asia is because of the import tariffs those nations put on goods. If manufactured in Asia then thats how they can circumvent the tariffs and are able to be more competitive.
Agree on Reverend. I have an Eastsider S, which is a single bound tele style with 3 single coils and a Wilkinson vibrato. It is a FANTASTIC instrument!!!
I had that same model when they came out for a few months. Best neck on any Tele I ever had. Unfortunately it was about 2 pounds too heavy. I even tried to retrofit /convert it to a standard hardtail by filling the cavity with quick wood filler and ditching the trem & block but it was still too heavy. I thought about keeping the neck and replacing the body with a swamp ash Warmoth replacement, but then remembered about the shiteous 6-bolt nonsense they use. Sold it at a loss. Never again.
@@escargotomy Hi escargot. Sorry you got a heavy one! I don't remember how much mine weighs, I got it from Wildwood so I'm pretty sure they told me when I bought it. It seems to weigh about the same as my other four teles. If you liked it, maybe you could try Wildwood.... Cheers!
@@brianmiller3287 Yeah I keep an eye out but they are never much less than 8 pounds. I have a feeling Gibson gets all the good Korina and Reverend gets what's left. At this point in my lifer after 40 years of playing I only go for the lightest guitars I can find. I have a home made Tele with custom Warmoth parts (Ash/Maple) that's 6 pounds, 12 oz. It's about as light as you can make a Tele. But I do miss that Pete Anderson neck for sure.
Thank you very much Phil! These kind of spontaneous feedbacks are the ones that I keep in greater consideration, because usually are the most unbiased ones. Great to be in that spot! Wish you all the best for you dog man.
I think the reason that Heritage is making an import line is because it looks like it is only targeted towards Asia and markets where Heritage doesn’t have any brand awareness. They want to build awareness and provide a jumping off point to attract international customers to the main U.S. Heritage guitar line. Heritage doesn’t need to this to attract awareness in the U.S. because it is better known. A good indication of what Heritage is thinking is that there is no mention of this cheaper import line on Heritage‘s U.S. website and it does not appear that they can be purchased in the U.S. unless you want to import them from abroad.
I don't know that would have the desired effect. If you know the Heritage brand, you know their story, you know they make really high end guitars that are well respected and very expensive, but you can't afford one, then you may be inclined to buy an import version. If you only know a brand through entry level budget models, the likelihood of buying a ultra high end model from them is very slim. If you found out later today that Firefly, Harley Benton, or any of the brands that are known for entry level budget guitars, had an ultra high end model that cost $4k, how likely would you be to buy one? I'm betting that almost no one would buy one, even if you found some great reviews on them.
@@ChrisEck13 Good point. Maybe Heritage has more expansive plans and are just getting started but plan to emulate Gibson and Fender‘s have tiered levels of import lines.
Thanks Phil. I bought a demo Tonex One pedal from Sweetwater this week. It looks perfect but the serial number hadn't been cleared out so I couldn't register/use it. I contacted them and they took care of it pretty quickly.
I have a Valenti guitar and loved it so much I got with Luigi on a build. My other is up on reverb so the next person can experience the love! But every couple of weeks I take it down and second guess myself lol
Missed the 'cast this time...was on the road (among other things, I picked up an MIJ ESP Eclipse Custom w/ a Floyd and EMGs. Not a lot of $$, but totally awesome...so maybe an "underdog"?) Official "Underdog Choices": CURRENT: AIO (All in One) and Vola // VINTAGE: MIJ Matsumoku (many brands and models to choose from) and MIM Fender (especially the "Special Strats"). Thanks again Mr. Phil!! 🙂
Useless info: Around 2009 I was living in Chandler AZ and had Phillip do an excellent setup and pickup work on my red '85 strat. Happens I bought that guitar at the Sam Ash store in NYC. He also sold me a bitchin' blue tweed Fender case. The guitar was stolen and I am old now.
I am sorry to hear about Rivolta guitar QC or lack thereof. . . I had been seriously considering getting a solid-body 12-string from them. But in the course of learning about different brands offering electric 12-strings, I stumbled upon the semi-hollow Reverend Airwave 12-string. It has been designed from the ground-up as a 12-string, so it has some unique features including a bridge that allows for intonation of individual strings, a treble-bleed circuit, a bass-contour control for tightening up the low-end or re-voicing the pickups and more. It's now at the top of my list.
I find it funny how polarizing prs really is. It seems like most people either love or hate their guitars. Im a prs lover. I love my 245, 594, and the dgt. I despise gibson and epiphone, but prs is my go to. Fender/squier is my backup. Im also one of “those guys” that prefer to put a few bucks into a squier instead of paying the fender price. Im not a brand snob per se, but i just put the money into my classic vibe strat and would now put it up against any fender ive ever played. Its an hss unit that does great with bluegrass, yet can flip the duncan jb on (bridge) and hang with most heavy metal demands. I put a set of duncans in my 245 and its a moster now too. The 594 and dgt are monsters already.
I have owned 9 PRS core model guitars from the mid 90s through a 2023 594. All gone. I want to love them but they just don’t work for me. I have no issue with them or people that love them.
I don't get why people have hate for any brand, not everyone is looking for the same thing and that's ok, it's why there are so many options. No one guitar is going to be right for everyone, and a brand isn't wrong for making a product just because someone doesn't like it.
@@9unslin9er Same here. Got an SE McCarty 594 Std. Single Cut. It was well made and beautiful to look at, but the neck was a bit too chunky. Lack of a maple cap on the Std. model makes it a bit dark sounding, and the pickups are just so-so. Also had an SE Swamp Ash Special and it was ok, neck was a little better for me, pickups sounded ok, tremolo worked well, but neither guitar really had that mojo (or personality as you mentioned) I was looking for. I have since purchased 7 new Gibsons this year (4 LPs and 3 SGs), and I love them all. There really is something special about them. I also have a number of lower-priced import brands (and one unbranded one that is amazing), and love them as well. I'm not a brand snob by any means. But Gibsons definitely have the mojo. You sometimes have to try a couple (or a few) to get a good one, but when you get one, they are awesome. Also bought a Heritage H-150. It's nice, but I'd take a Gibson anyday, at least based on my experience. Best of all, if I decide to sell any of the Gibsons at some point, I likely won't lose much and might even come out ahead. Can't really say that about the others. But I agree with the other viewer's comment that the important thing is to find a guitar that inspires you to play and sparks your creativity.
That sucks about the pick thing. I have a little box of picks I’ve acquired over the last 30 years. Learning about guitar stuff in the 90s was like paying for the experience of groping around in the dark for gold nuggets. Word of mouth and guitar magazines, and half that turned out to be wrong
Historically the appraisal value of merch sold at auction was 10 cents on the dollar. Back in the day when I’d shop at Sammy’s original store on Kings Highway, Brooklyn, it wasn’t called “customer service” but rudeness.
Underdogs - Brian Moore and Hamer. Not sure if either is actually still in business - but I've have both and felt that they've always been under rated.
Love my Yamaha Pacifica Standard Plus. It's on par with my Fender American Pro II Strat but with more features (locking tuners, stainless frets). Not cheap but cheaper than an Am Pro.
Suhr's import line was called Rameses, and they were actually pretty damn good, a tech at one of the sam ash stores here in FL had the Guthrie Govan signature that was released (that's how I learned about it after getting into The Aristocrats) and it was a beautiful piece of gear, it sounded good and played well. Too bad though that they never got traction, as it feels like everyone else like Charvel, Ibanez, Kiesel basically ended up eating their breakfast.
Great explanation/view on the Heritage topic. I dare to state maybe their import line may bring them more brand awareness, creating a larger group of potential customers for their top tiers.
Everybody complains about GC but I’ve never had a bad experience in a GC. I went to the Sam Ash in PHX 1 time and never went back. Not a comfortable experience.
When Phil "goes off the rails" you know you]re in for a good story :-D. I rarely get to watch the show live but getting bite chunks through the week is amazing!
Phil, thanks for answering my question about the jp15 today. I got antsy and ended up ordering a jp15 6 string in purple nebula. So far I love it, but want to wait for the honeymoon phase to end. But I love the thin neck as it hits the spot just a little thicker than an ibanez.
Today I scored big time at Sam Ash in Westminster: Brand new Boss SDE 3000 EVH dual digital delay pedal module unit (emulating Eddie Van Halen’s wet dry wet rig spatial delays setup) that retails for $600 = down to $180! 70% off! $180: the going price for a lesser spec Boss compact pedal - & Cheaper than a Strymon pedal! After 10 or 15 repeat monitoring / futile trips to Sam Ash, I got an actual real deal!
I will miss Sam Ash ,the store was close by and you can try before you buy. I recently bought a guitar online and sent it back because it had some issues which is why I hope other brick and mortar stores do not close. I hope your dog feels better soon.
I was in the tombstone business. I started importing markers and monuments. There was a local stone that's cost was my full book selling. price. I eventually actually worked w the local quarry to manufacture special stones. Sadly the economics of the local stone made its demise eventual. Imhadcrespectvfor the stone and its owner but the numbers were the numbers. I agree with your import sub line more or less killing domestic.
I got the Dave Grohl Epiphone/DG-335 as a gift this Thursday evening/yesterday. It's fantastic it has a chunky/large neck with a nut over 43mm wide. I love a large neck but noticed how large it was immediately, I got over that pretty quick & it felt VERY comfortable. I've been a Foo Fighters fan since I bought "The Colour & The Shape" album in the summer of 1998, little late to the party. Saw them for the first time at a festival here in Saskatchewan, Canada in 2000 after Chris Shifflet joined.
I had a Godan Slim. Nice guitar, although the width of the neck was a little too narrow for my hand. I wasn't playing it often, so I sold it. After watching you demo the guitar, I can see myself playing a few standards (not classical) on the guitar. Might have to shake my wallet out to see of I can get to the purchase price.
46:47 I wouldn’t want a pick unless it was a pick I would use, most of the time. I did keep a pick from Rick Springfield though when I worked with him back in 2008.
I'll Pray for your Doggie friend, great show your so right to have an import Brand you have to be an instantly recognised Brand. Have a great weekend everyone from a very Wet Ireland. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Hey Phil! Just curious. When you said that "Godin needed to do something and they're resale value", what could they do about it and why would they care? Just curious. Always appreciate your insights. Peace to you and yours and I hope your pooch gets better soon. Thanks!
My Gibson Demo Shop TV Yellow LP Special is a weird green. Why would I send it back and lose over $225.00 though? I think they play with lighting to make it more yellow, but it's translucent green.
Phil, PLEASE upload your new episodes to your podcasts. I love listening to your podcasts on the way to work but you've not uploaded any new episodes for a while now. The last one I see is from 4 weeks ago.
Bankruptcy Court determines the acceptable Sale Price... Taking into account Assets, and Creditors owed. They do not take into account past sales, revenue, or "Blue Sky," basically the value of the Brand Name. Also suggest: Adding markers into your videos when you change subjects or put a graphic on screen when there are major subjects...
I have 4 Heritage guitars. They are all superb. 2 H-555s, H-157 CM and a H-147. They have more Gibson DNA than Gibson now has. I have 3 Gibsons and Heritage is equal or better in every way.
Vola, ever since they went direct and cut their prices by almost half, became one of the best underdog brands on the market. You get Suhr level quality at less than half the price.
Phil, if you ran a casino, you'd be like Albert Brook's idea in "Lost In America". He'd lost everything and was pleading with management to give his money back. "You could be known as the Casino With A Heart!"
Samson is the parent company and is being run buy Richard Ash. Samson has acquired Michael Kelley & Zoom. Harke is a subsidiary of Samson. Those companies will still be functioning and making and developing products.
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and didn't know about Heritage guitars until it was mentioned on this channel. I don't think they are even on the level of G&L, Schecter, Danelectro, Suhr, etc recognition-wise. I do hope Heritage's brand grows massively though.
Spent a lot of money in the last couple of years 95% were done in person and are keepers , 5% of my purchases were done on line ,of that 50 or 60% was returned.
After playing Gibson electrics for over forty years, I can no longer justify spending the extra money over the new Epiphones. Gibson may still have “the vibe” as you say, Phil, but for the money the 2024 IGCS Epiphones are superb and truly outstanding instruments for the money. I’m still stunned at how they have raised the bar over the past 5 years. Epiphone used to be second rate to me, but that’s no longer the case. They are a contender now. Kudos to Gibson’s leadership team. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That reported Sam Ash sale price seems like the steal of the century on so many levels. I am equally shocked as a layperson/customer of Sam Ash. A real piece of music retail history being lost. Good luck to all the staff at Sam Ash everywhere and to the Ash family.
That Dave Grohl Epiphone here in Australia is about USD $1900. I'm not sure if Epiphone just don't want to sell guitars here or what. I'm not paying an extra 40%. The country that they're manufactured in is closer to Australia than it is the US so that can't be used as an excuse

Their workers are underpaid as well as under trained dudes as well as unvetted "professional musicians" who were very.. VERY prone to drug usage
Try being left handed. They recommend to learn right handed. That's like asking the gay kid to try women out and stop complaining.
Please, do the SE NF3 if the option arises again. Your opinion does indeed help influence purchases.
I was shocked at the posted purchase price of Sam Ash. It seemed low to me.
Guitar builder - if we're talking small company in the U.S., I think Dunable is consistently making amazing guitars.
Just kidding. Volume pot doesn’t work. Looks like I’ll be returning it and getting something else 😢
1:11:51 I solved this problem by only using 2 picks for over a decade and never losing them.
Best ... You may not of heard of them, Collings Guitars.
I love the sound of a nylon string guitar…I can’t play one worth a hoot, but I do love it👍
Today I scored big time at Sam Ash in Westminster:
Brand new Boss SDE 3000 EVH dual digital delay pedal module unit (emulating Eddie Van Halen’s wet dry wet rig spatial delays setup) that retails for $600 = down to $180!
70% off!
$180: the going price for a lesser spec Boss compact pedal - & Cheaper than a Strymon pedal!
After 10 or 15 repeat monitoring / futile trips to Sam Ash, I got an actual real deal!
Hope your doggies are doing better. I am very in love with guitar, but I love doggies even more❤ Thanks again for all your work. I am a big fan✌
Praying for your dogs' good health. 🙏🏻 T he Godin sounds awesome!
I will miss Sam Ash ,the store was close by and you can try before you buy. I recently bought a guitar online and sent it back because it had some issues which is why I hope other brick and mortar stores do not close. I hope your dog feels better soon.
Enjoyed the parts I listened to, hope your dog will be alright!
Hey man, hope your dog is doing ok. It’s so stressful man. Sending good vibes🤙🤙
The fret work isn't perfect but it doesn't bother me enough to work on it.
The kyg hats are really comfy
Learned something about 🐝 today! Didn’t see that coming!
Phil, no more podcasts on Apple??? I need that. I drive a truck and always look forward to your new uploads. The RUclips works, though.
That Godin knocked me out. I’ve owned a couple, don’t need to be persuaded about their quality, but I was very surprised by the quality of that tone.
FYI, Regarding the Godin Mundial, it’s pronounced “moon-dee-AHL.” It means “global” in Spanish.
French too
I had a Godan Slim. Nice guitar, although the width of the neck was a little too narrow for my hand. I wasn't playing it often, so I sold it. After watching you demo the guitar, I can see myself playing a few standards (not classical) on the guitar. Might have to shake my wallet out to see of I can get to the purchase price.
Godin multiacs have a wider necks
15 million can't fix the aweful, lazy customer service and the wantabe rock star attitude of the sales team.
Thanks!
Sam ash in Nashville hasn’t fully closed yet as of now, deals aren’t anything to write home about tho
My Gibson Demo Shop TV Yellow LP Special is a weird green. Why would I send it back and lose over $225.00 though? I think they play with lighting to make it more yellow, but it's translucent green.
I get it, but I think think you should do the nf3, it's different enough that it'd be cool if you wanna check it out
Every time I think I'm out and found a guitar I like as much as my Strat it pulls me back in.
Phil, always enjoy your show. Prayers for your dog. I know my dog was 3 days in hosp earlier this year. I was frantic.
Series 10 was my first guitar!
Phil, PLEASE upload your new episodes to your podcasts. I love listening to your podcasts on the way to work but you've not uploaded any new episodes for a while now. The last one I see is from 4 weeks ago.
Get a recording program, audacity is free n easy to use. Record youtube audio while you sleep, export as mp3, send to phone. Simple. Audiobooks? Easy.
Nice guitar work young man.
Well that ended buggy... so , thz Phil! Have a great week everyone and thank you Amanda, gn.
I have 4 Heritage guitars. They are all superb. 2 H-555s, H-157 CM and a H-147. They have more Gibson DNA than Gibson now has. I have 3 Gibsons and Heritage is equal or better in every way.
Made in USA is what I like. BTW I own 2 Kalamazoo Heritages and they are excellent....so is my LP R8.
Sorry to hear about your dog. I hope he is better.
Firefly for the money is crazy.!!!
Vola, ever since they went direct and cut their prices by almost half, became one of the best underdog brands on the market. You get Suhr level quality at less than half the price.
Hope your doggy gets better soon.
Would you classify Shijie and Eastman as underdogs?
Phil, if you ran a casino, you'd be like Albert Brook's idea in "Lost In America". He'd lost everything and was pleading with management to give his money back. "You could be known as the Casino With A Heart!"
Hey Phil. I would like to display my guitars on the wall like you have here. But surely they get dusty and dirty etc?
Samson is the parent company and is being run buy Richard Ash. Samson has acquired Michael Kelley & Zoom. Harke is a subsidiary of Samson. Those companies will still be functioning and making and developing products.
Nice intro by the lady.
Yeah Phil thinking of your family and dog… hope all is well
I’m not much of an acoustic guitar fan, however, I want that Godin acoustic really bad
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and didn't know about Heritage guitars until it was mentioned on this channel. I don't think they are even on the level of G&L, Schecter, Danelectro, Suhr, etc recognition-wise. I do hope Heritage's brand grows massively though.
? Castedosa (Carlos Lopez, ex-Fender Master Builder) as an underdog brand to think about - or is he too well known among insiders to qualify?
Spent a lot of money in the last couple of years 95% were done in person and are keepers , 5% of my purchases were done on line ,of that 50 or 60% was returned.
Hope your dog recovers quickly!
On line only makes your direct compitition Sweetwater and Amazon. The only way to survive is to compeat on price.
Sorry I missed the live I was in hospital having back surgery home now 😅
After playing Gibson electrics for over forty years, I can no longer justify spending the extra money over the new Epiphones.
Is there anything left to buy after the sales, scams and whatever else went wrong. ?
What can a company 'Do' about the resale value on the used market?
Ok, You answered in the underdog section. But isn't every company busting all to get eyeballs on the brand anyway?
Yea! So we can continue to go to Sam Ash and find things priced exactly the same as SweetWater/Gtr Center/MusicianFriend/AMS etc…
Takamine is underrated a bit
Hi Phil! Maybe U check ot Redstuff Amps from Germany!
