It’s funny how Armadillo and Tumbleweed both basically serve as the main town for new Austin in different games. All while being either abandoned or run down in the opposite.
One thing I wish they should've done in the epilogue was add in weapons that came out during 1900 -1907. Like the Winchester 305 Springfield 1903 Colt Mexican pistol And other weapons that came out during that time.
Does anybody else think mexico was originally gonna be a explorable area due to the detailed modeling of the terrain and palm trees, they even modeled El Presido
Well, I mean, they modeled a low poly, largely culled-out model of El Presidio, but in the PS4 1.00 release all of the models for Nuevo Paraíso towns existed - and you can hear a dog barking in two different locations.
Yeah they completely ported over the red dead 1 map and just remodelled it for new graphics, it’s why some textures at armadillo and tumble weed have some older looking textures, they probably just wanted to meet the deadline and Mexico wouldnt have been finished so they just started cutting it down (for performance aswell) It makes sense with the Mexico music that plays when you glitch over and the other towns and npcs and dialogues relating to Mexico in the files
From the videos I've seen looking at the development of the map the entirety of New Austin was added very late in development and the entire northern area of the map was shuffled multiple times late in development. Mexico was likely just modeled for looks and was never intended to be a playable area.
As someone who's favorite game is RDR1 this video is beautiful, it shows us how much of a leap this generation was, not only that but it also shows us that R* are always ahead of time!... Except when they keep releasing the game game 3 times for 3 generations
RDR's art direction is so great that even with all the graphical improvements between the two games, RDR 1 is still beautiful. You can't say that for most games this old.
The background song made me cry when I first played the mission where Arthur goes on his last ride. knowing what was coming it’s amazing how rdr2 tugs at your heart strings
It matches the timeline too. It shows how new and fresh everything was in the early days. After time and expansion it shows how everything faded what it used to be 😥😥😥 that's the way it is~

@@kaydenlewis9246 seems ungrateful to have that when you have such a good game but to cry about the little aspects that aren't even apparent at face value
This song is positively haunting. I love how no matter what your style is, Arthur's hat gets shot off in the chase from Van Horn and he puts on HIS hat for that ride back to camp.
My guess is the railroad went through Armadillo, connecting the town to civilization, and Tumbleweed was abandoned due to the lack of connection to civilization. That and the danger of a large gang taking over Tumbleweed.
Sammexp you have to play the first game to know what happened to tumbleweed. The railway was built to armadillo which then had better law enforcement. And people moved from tumbleweed which is in a canyon so it could easily be raided by bandits. Which is what happened. Bandits killed the remaining people and it is run down in rdr1 1911 and rdr2 1907 because they only made one version of the map 1899 since you were originally gonna be able to go there as Arthur. It’s not lore-fuckup. It’s just rockstar being lazy and or forgetful.
@@Dutch_van_der_Linde_1899 It's because of the railroad. It's explained in the story in a few different areas that the railroad to Armadillo is what eventually turned the latter into a boom town while Tumbleweed went belly up. The same thing has happened in a lot of US towns throughout history as well.
Honestly the buildings in Blackwater look so much nicer in rdr2. If there is a rdr1 remake, they should keep the new buildings from rdr2. As much as I liked rdr1, Blackwater looks a little off. Rdr2 fixed that.
I agree. The RDR1 Blackwater buildings look too much like generic western buildings. Definitely doesn't fit the modern vibe the city is supposed to give off.
RDR1 ended in 1914. The same year WW1 started in Europe. Those were quite literally the last days of the West. Also Jack was at just the right age to be drafted into WW1 when the US intervened in 1917. If there is an RDR3 it will most likely be set before the events of RDR2.

It would be cool if there was a remaster and it would be cooler if at the end of the game the automobile became an uncommon vehicle that spawned in West Elizabeth.
You only showed the 1907 rdr2 version, when you’re completely missing out on black water details from 1899 like the bank not even being built yet and the saloon under different management
A lil lore break I’ve known about for years but haven’t seen many people talk about is how in rdr 1, Bonnie has line when showing John around the ranch saying how her father built the barn when she was just a little girl but in both red dead online and epilogue there’s no barn and it’s only 4-12 years before rdr 1…so where’s the barn then. always annoyed me a bit
RDR2 has a lot of Retcon with RDR1, not only in details like the one you mention, but also in the attitude of the characters and some events in the history of both games.
Most of the towns aged right on spot, BUT Blackwater in RDR2 was clearly designed by a guy who did not play RDR. I mean come on you have a A few barracks and wooden buildings and a small hut on the dock, in 1914 and 1899-1907 you got big stone houses, a solid stone Hotel and this "Dockstation" with the lil tower on Top...how...
Rio bravo doesn't feel the same in RDR2. I barely ever went to Rio Bravo in RDR1, less I was passing into mexico due to the lack of things to do and the difficult terrain. In RDR2 and RDO, I spend a whole lot of time there. Strangely there's even less content in RDR2 there compared to 1, but something about the red rock and green trees just gets me passing through there instead of cholla springs on my way to tumbleweed.
New Austin has no benefit in the story of the second game , nor have the developers focused on building a new, map and more states, and they have done an amazing job, so I do not understand why you are so attached to New Austin, as if the lack of focus on it is one of the defects of the second game , and this is truly foolish and unfair to the game. Just enjoy. In the rest of the map, it is very simple. There is no benefit from New Austin in the story of the game, and the first game focused on it, and the events took place there, so there is no need to focus on it again, and they decided to develop a new and diverse world., it is a new game, not a remastered of the first game , and if you are so attached to the state, just go and play the first game . The story takes place there
@@ogloc320 I just like the area in RDR2?? It's not like the devs would shame me for going through the area they had to miss going home on the weekend working crunch to make.
@@ogloc320Actually it has benefit. They just didnt do it. In The New South mission Hosea, Arthur and Dutch mention being there camping. They just didnt add that which obviously are saving for rdr3.
I absolutely friggin LOVE the attention to detail, for example one of the buildings in armadillo was all broken down and stuff in the first red dead but in red dead 2 they made it so it wasn’t all broken down because the ending of the game takes place 4 years before rdr1 so it is going to be not broken and shows how just a few years can change things in a huge way. That’s why I love the attention to detail
This used to be a beautiful forest, now the pacific union railroad camp had to get rid of it! Thanks a lot. Oh Arthur, if only you could see the world now.
I really wish Armadillo wasnt basically a Ghost Town in RDR 2. I dont care about the lore that it was supposed to have that collera outbreak. I want my true western town back
Cut content seemed to point to how new Austin was supposed to be explored. Remember how the dinosaur bone quest had Arthur in it? That's proof enough for cutting Mexico out.
What's weird is that there is an info card at Pacific railroad camp in rdr2. I think it was cut because of a lack of time or because were stuck in 1899 version.
I think it’s kinda cool that some of the less significant areas and buildings have a different design and artistic interpretation, but the more iconic locations like the buildings in armadillo are extremely accurate
I know! What blew my mind was that they went to the trouble of recreating many of the signs even down to the same fonts and designs for the most part. They didn't have to do that but it's awesome they pay attention to those details.
I love both games. But I have to hand it to rdr2, the desert feels and looks like a real desert. In rdr1 it feels and looks like an extension to Great Plains. But I do love rdr1
Shame we didnt get to see what happened to the Serendipity in RDR2. I suppose it was sunk by Dutchs Gang some time between 1907 and 1911 but I would have liked to have seen what happened to it.
You have wrong info brother, the serendipity was going upriver when it hit shallow water, it was told by authorities of Blackwater to stay and float, this caused the boat to take on large amounts of water and they made an emergency docking at a dock that was too shallow and small, with the extra damage made from the dock, the ferry company deemed it a lost cost and let it sit and rot, I think you’re thinking about the line that the fbi guy says that he thinks Dutch’s “new” gang is hiding out
FadedFlame I would say it gets confused with the boat Dutches gang robbed just before the events of the first game where John gets shot and Dutch shoots that girl Like before the first game came out and we didn’t know it was a bank robbery on the boat it was speculated that this event took place on the serendipity so personally I was very excited to see how it got there and if Dutch’s Gang was in any way involved I hope we get to see the events in a Red dead Online update or something? Like if the online world skipped ahead until after 1907
Now that I look at the comparison, graphics in RDR1 look much more like an old movie to me. And the more I think about it, the more I realize I do miss that feel in RDR2. Could be also that I played majority of RDR1 on an old CRT TV.
The whole feel was like a Spaghetti Western...the soundtrack too with all the whistles and bells. The color palette was different and they didn't went into a ultra realistic artstyle as with RDR2. Thats why it felt like an old movie, cause thats exactly how Rockstar made the game. It feels more Blood Meridian than the 2nd game even thou it makes no sense given the timeline. Both are masterpieces but RDR2's open world is just so beautiful but I miss the Prairie and Mexico from the first game thou.

Does anybody else think mexico was originally gonna be a explorable area due to the detailed modeling of the terrain and palm trees, they even modeled El Presido
It for sure was
6-8 hours of cut content
Well, I mean, they modeled a low poly, largely culled-out model of El Presidio, but in the PS4 1.00 release all of the models for Nuevo Paraíso towns existed - and you can hear a dog barking in two different locations.
Yeah they completely ported over the red dead 1 map and just remodelled it for new graphics, it’s why some textures at armadillo and tumble weed have some older looking textures, they probably just wanted to meet the deadline and Mexico wouldnt have been finished so they just started cutting it down (for performance aswell)
It makes sense with the Mexico music that plays when you glitch over and the other towns and npcs and dialogues relating to Mexico in the files
From the videos I've seen looking at the development of the map the entirety of New Austin was added very late in development and the entire northern area of the map was shuffled multiple times late in development. Mexico was likely just modeled for looks and was never intended to be a playable area.
What makes death so sad is how the world keeps on turning afterwards
As someone who's favorite game is RDR1 this video is beautiful, it shows us how much of a leap this generation was, not only that but it also shows us that R* are always ahead of time!... Except when they keep releasing the game game 3 times for 3 generations
RDR's art direction is so great that even with all the graphical improvements between the two games, RDR 1 is still beautiful. You can't say that for most games this old.
The only thing that didnt aged really well in rdr1 is the Stone textur rest is still beautiful

It matches the timeline too. It shows how new and fresh everything was in the early days. After time and expansion it shows how everything faded what it used to be 😥😥😥 that's the way it is~

RDR1 still has good graphics for a game made a decade ago. The ragdolls are my favorite
Rockstar did overboard by adding half of the rdr 1 map in RDR2. They really didn't have to that honestly, but they did.
And put like zero effort into it
@@kaydenlewis9246 You know how difficult it is to develop content to the quality Rockstar does? It was already delayed a year to get this stuff in. It's all for fan service (and probably both to increase biome diversity and give Online a bigger playground) and its inclusion doesn't hurt anything.

And how does Armadillo go from having a dangerous plague, then to normal.
And how does Tumbleweed go from a town with law, to abandoned?
Lmao with time. But I think armadillo has had a history of bad shit happening to it
My guess is the railroad went through Armadillo, connecting the town to civilization, and Tumbleweed was abandoned due to the lack of connection to civilization. That and the danger of a large gang taking over Tumbleweed.
A lot of things can happen in 4 years
@@michaelcarbajal. This is not as accurate as that. The railroad station is already broken after just 4 years and Tumbleweed a ghost town
It’s pretty sad to see tumbleweed turn from a busy town to a ghost town.
That's because of the sheriff
He had delusions of grandeur which set people abandoning the place
@@Dutch_van_der_Linde_1899 It's because of the railroad. It's explained in the story in a few different areas that the railroad to Armadillo is what eventually turned the latter into a boom town while Tumbleweed went belly up.
@@airgerald1055 yea that's what I was thinking, with new game engines and storage capabilities, buildings look much less generic.
RDR1 ended in 1914. The same year WW1 started in Europe. Those were quite literally the last days of the West. Also Jack was at just the right age to be drafted into WW1 when the US intervened in 1917.
If there is an RDR3 it will most likely be set before the events of RDR2.

Yeah
Did blackwater demolish it's good buildings and then build shit ones? I'm confused
When rockstar remade Blackwater they wanted it to look modern for it's time so they got rid of most of the wood frame buildings

Maybe Bonnie is ALOT more younger than she appears to be lol. Or maybe that's Rockstar not thinking properly
Not to mention it goes from the imperial theater to a wooden building lmao

How did sister or mother Calderón come to Mexico? There was still no rail link to Mexico in 1899.

Cut content seemed to point to how new Austin was supposed to be explored. Remember how the dinosaur bone quest had Arthur in it? That's proof enough for cutting Mexico out.
New Austin did not change at all in 1898-1899-1907 but in 1911 is changed
What's weird is that there is an info card at Pacific railroad camp in rdr2. I think it was cut because of a lack of time or because were stuck in 1899 version.
Can’t even watch the video with that song playing - heartbreaking.

Shame we didnt get to see what happened to the Serendipity in RDR2. I suppose it was sunk by Dutchs Gang some time between 1907 and 1911 but I would have liked to have seen what happened to it.
Connor Leonard Ik that’s the thing I wanted to see most from Rdr2
You have wrong info brother, the serendipity was going upriver when it hit shallow water, it was told by authorities of Blackwater to stay and float, this caused the boat to take on large amounts of water and they made an emergency docking at a dock that was too shallow and small, with the extra damage made from the dock, the ferry company deemed it a lost cost and let it sit and rot, I think you’re thinking about the line that the fbi guy says that he thinks Dutch’s “new” gang is hiding out
FadedFlame I would say it gets confused with the boat Dutches gang robbed just before the events of the first game where John gets shot and Dutch shoots that girl
Like before the first game came out and we didn’t know it was a bank robbery on the boat it was speculated that this event took place on the serendipity so personally I was very excited to see how it got there and if Dutch’s Gang was in any way involved
I hope we get to see the events in a Red dead Online update or something?
Like if the online world skipped ahead until after 1907
New Austin has changed a lot since red dead 2
