    I live in Anchorage. Is this McNeil? I can't think of where else you camp in Katmai besides Brooks Lodge area.

      theres a few reasons for that 1. Coastal Brown Bears in Katmai are completely different than inland grizzlies. They have an abundant food source and these bears have aslo been accustomed to seeing people year in and year out. The bears are more worried about other bears. 2. That's why you go with a professional bear guide, they have years of experience with the same bears, know their patterns and limits. We all know it's wildlife and anything can happen. But It's less risky than driving to work and skydiving and what not.
