Although this video is a bit old... it helped me tremendously. I (too) used the OEM o-ring when replacing the water pump. It leaked like a compressed sponge. The GM 94051259 o-ring worked first try. (2006 GMC Sierra w/Durmax 6.6l) Many thanks to mdemco!!
Thank you so much for the information given on this video. It was very helpful and I was able to solve my Issue with a leak after replacing the pump, also I went ahead and replaced the bypass tube to make sure everything was brand new. Replaced the two idler pulleys since I was there and the bottom radiator hose as well as the top one. Forgot to mention the two new thermostats and new o-rings. Perfect outcome with your help. Many Blessings to you and yours.
Thanks for the information! After hearing about all of the issues with the OEM o-ring, I was very careful installing it, using plenty of lube and taking my time after replacing the water pump. Before I installed anything else, I started adding the coolant, and sure enough, it started leaking out of the thermostat bypass tube. I was pretty shocked because of the time I spent making sure (I thought) it was installed correctly. Pulled the bypass tube out noticed that I had pinched the o-ring. I ended up getting the fuel injector o-ring you linked here, along with the same lube, and after putting it back together I don't have any leaks. Thanks again!
Just completed replacing the belt tensioner on my 01 Duramax Dulley as well as two idler pulleys when I noticed that the bypass tube turbo crossover hose was weeping just a bit. So, I went through all of the work only to discover that I had torn the upper bypass tube o-ring in the process. When I started refilling the radiator it had quite a leak from the bottom of the thermostat housing. Fortunately - I came across your video and procured the injector o-ring as well as a new lower o-ring. I cleaned everything up real well as you suggested. The only difference is that I used a silicone based lubricant as the Lubriplate that I was able to locate is a petroleum based product. The end result was a success (first attempt with plentiful lubricant and the red injector o-ring - the fan and all pulleys were still in place). So - based on your advice and a bit of patience/prayer....it can be done even without removing the fan etc. Thanks Again for your time, energy, and expertise in this regard! Much appreciated - Sincerely, Mike
Super helpful... Had pinched the original oring when I did water pump on lb7 a while ago... Was leaking so used your process and a cup oring and problem solved! Thank you!
Nice video. The top o ring is kicking my butt. I’ve gone through 15 o rings while being gentle and lubed up. Great idea on the injector o ring I will look for one
This is exactly how to do it. Great video and thanks much for the updated injector cup oring. Bought mine OEM from local dealer. Also to note, yall take notice of the direction his hose clamps are on that 2 3/4" 1/2 heater hose. You will want to position your like this, both with driving bolt head on bottom. This is one of several videos I viewed as I prepped and did my LBZ water pump change out.
that was a very good video. I appreciated the info. I inspected the upper port, i.e. the bottom side of the t-stat housing, and it had a small groove in it from the old o-ring. so I used 2 of the o rings to get a better seal and to keep the rings into a better position
You save the day with this video, just finish a water pump job when I realized while filling the reservoir that I had cut the o-ring. I thought I was going to have to drop the pump all over again to remove the tube. thank GOD...
I can say it works with injectior O ring thanks for the video man ...the only thing I did different I was that I was able to do it with the fan on and I put rtv silicone
I’m trying to replace the o ring on the thermostat bypass pipe, so do I have to take the engine clutch fan out to be able to twist the pipe off to reach the o ring?
Thanks! I got stuck with the hose which is 3/8 by the way and removed the pipe only to find my seal had torn. I ran to a local dealer and got a couple of the ones you mentioned just in case and it went in like a charm using your method. You also should not that the hose clamps need to be placed with the clamp on the top to clear the fan pulley opposite to how you have them.
Hello I have a LBZ I need replace the hose for that bypass tube, whoever put the water pump before me they put worm gear clamps which has cut a hole in the hose and I got a small weep do I have to take the fan off the AC off the front pulley off I'm trying to figure out what I have to go through to replace that hoses and clamp I do not need again I don't need to remove the water pump
I really needed this , ive been struggling for a whole day with the small hose, everyone said 3/8, well its impossible to get a 3/8 overvthat tube, i tried warming it and all. Still nothing. So as soon as u said 1/2" i said yup, i had a feeling tge forums were wrong. Not unless its different sizes on different years. I have a 07. Thanks for this , cause i also was unsure what oring to use for pipe.
Do you recall if you used a GM OEM pipe or aftermarket? I have seen this pipe with the yellow dot and the "dent"; it seems to fit! I see others highly suggesting only the OEM pipe and not the aftermarket. Great video, well done.

I just wanted to say thank you I just got done ruining 2 until you brought up the injector o ring.
Thanks for this video! I had ripped two o-rings and was frustrated. Found this and worked first time. Thanks.

This was an awesome video. I have a 2007 Duramax with 389 thousand miles on it. I do a lot of my own maintenance. Thanks for the video!
This was very helpful! Thanks for taking time to post this . May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you

Did u remove the fan and water pump pulley?

Dude you saved my ass so hard. This thing was the bane of my existence until watching this video.

Thank you for this video. What type of white lube was that. Thank you!

On the LMM at least a micrometer says the small hose neck is .5" or 1/2"
Does this also apply to the lb7?
Thank you for linking the part number bro!!
Very nice video. Do you have a link for those hose clamps?
I looked everywhere on this video and cannot find the part # for the injector o-ring. I need this part # please.
What o ring is this
Its literally in the description
Where can I find the part numbers in the description?
Will this work on the LMM as well?
Great video man thank you....can you tell me where you got the o rings? I'm in a bind and that would help tremendously
Did you pull this out with water pump on?
What’s the part number for the coolant bypass tube? I only see a Dorman 902-901 which I’m told won’t work on a LBZ.

Do you have the part number for the bolts?
Do you know the bolt size for the two bolts? Would definitely appreciate it! I’ve been looking forever on Google!
Did you ever find these bolts my man I’m hard up

Incredible video. Good job man, this helped me with my removal.
It appears that you removed the fan pulley from the block. Is that correct? Also, Thank you for the info on using an injector O-ring.
What brand is the pipe
Tried your method, worked great! Thank you.
I put new original o rings and they are leaking, then I put the old ones and no more leaking..
Do you recall if you used a GM OEM pipe or aftermarket? I have seen this pipe with the yellow dot and the "dent"; it seems to fit! I see others highly suggesting only the OEM pipe and not the aftermarket. Great video, well done.
Mdemco, what grease was used?
Simple white lithium, really anything can be used. Good Luck!!
more thanks for the valuable info ,thanks for sharing.
I’ve done this like 10 times 4 orings and still leaking 😒
I don't see part numbers
Very helpful - excellent video, thank you!
