DKC3 is severely underrated -- easily the most beautiful overworld map of all the games and you even get some freedom to explore it instead of just going through a set path all the time, you can even do some little sidequests, but just some small things to not deviate too much from the genre that the game is supposed to be -- a platformer. It also has some amazing backgrounds for the levels, I really love the ones for the snow, tree and waterfall levels. The soundtrack is not as good as the first two but it is still amazing and I don't dislike any songs, but I do have some favorites: cave, waterfall, tree, mountains, pipes and underwater levels. Overall it's my second favorite DKC game just behind DKC2. There's still even more things that I can say about it, but I don't want to go on for too long. My rank: DKC2 DKC3 DKC1 DKCTF DKCR Never had any interest in DK64 and I STILL don't have it since it's nothing like the other games at all.
I feel like DKC3 has so many great level ideas, but a lot of them are poorly implemented. Lightning Lookout is a good example. The lightning is too hard to avoid because of how quickly and randomly it appears.
Ah, memories. DKC2 was it, man. Back in the 90s, I would spend hours at my friend's place playing co-op, and we never even finished the game when DKC3 came out. I remember being totally bummed out because the look and feel of the game and the music was nowhere near as good as DKC2, though the gameplay itself was pretty much the same.
DKC 2 is my favorite platformer of all time, flawless game even if 10 year old me was screaming at the difficulty. Wouldn't actually get the secret ending till I was in my late 20's
It's the series trademark. I have the whole DKC1 101% by heart at this point and DKC2 gives me some trouble but it's overall doable. However, I've been playing DKCR for the first time and oh boy, is that shit hard. Even more playing on my phone at an emulator since I have to adapt some Wii stuff to play properly. But it's just as fun as the classics

I've only ever played the SNES originals, so 2 > 3 > 1 for me, but I see the flaws in 3 and the great game that 1 is at the same time, 1 just had less going on and unsatisfying bosses overall.
Completely agree, people crap on 3 because it wasn’t as big a step up from 1 to 2 and it’s music/ graphics isn’t up to scratch. But it’s level design is fantastic in my opinion, second only to DKC2. 👍👍

DK 64 has so much potential for a remake. Most of its issues are easily fixable and giving it a refresh with modern textures and graphics would really make its great level and world design shine

I also think the DK land trilogy qualifies as part of the country series for the same reason.
DKC2 has a special place in my heart. Probably my most favorite video game of all times. I actually prefered the gameplay of DKC3 over DKC1 and it had some great innovations like the open world but the less mature approach in terms of artwork and the inferior music made it feel worse than it actually was. DKC1 was good but felt pretty basic (especially the boss fights) if you played the other installments a lot. I don't know why but I never liked DK64. SM64 was a masterpiece and I really looked forward to the first 3D DK game but it kind of disappointed me. Endless grinding of levels with several characters made it feel more like a chore. I never owned a Wii (U) or a Switch so I never played the Returns parts.
i just remember being stuck on the minecart level in the second world in the first DK country as a kid and i was stuck for weeks on that one level then when coming back and playing the game again i got it on my first try
My personal favorite is Donkey Kong Country 2 and the original Donkey Kong Country! I was a bigger DK fan than Mario growing up even though I love Mario too!

Just watched it to see that Donkey Kong Country 2 is the best ^^. I'm an RPG games fan, but DKC 2 is still in TOP 5 of my best game lists. U were talking about wich is harder DKC 1 or 2. I think 2. Both ended like about 7 or more times, and have to say DKC i could once end in casual run around 2h. In DKC 2 u have to focus to end the game. Luckly Music is gr8 so focus is automatical ^^
I got dk64 for Christmas when I was like 6. It has always been my favorite game of all time. It gets a lot of hate but I don’t understand why. Especially now with the tag anywhere mod. Apart from that I have the exact same list. But also, DK needs a new game!!!! Tropical freeze came out 10 years ago!!!!! That’s too long. The second best game in the series that no one played due to the failure of the Wii U.
I love/hate the original DKC. It has the best levels and epic music but damn, it was hard to beat. I am now having a relaxing time playing DKC3 on the Switch.

The main bad guys in Tropical Freeze are a major improvement over the tikis from returns Honestly, i prefer the original Trilogy i can tolerate dkc3. it's not my favorite in the Trilogy but a good game.

Tropical freeze and returns aren't dkc games gameplay wise, so they don't count, theirs only 3 dkc games and that's the snes dkc trilogy, so this is a easy list best is dkc 2, second is dkc, 3rd and worst is dkc 3, but all three are great games

In my opinion I think dkcr is the best donkey kong game... the level design is the best in the series, the tikis are not that bad (some people just don’t like them because it’s not k rool). And the difficulty oh boy... the temple levels don’t mess around However there are three major issues, the first is that it’s super inaccessible... this game really needs a switch port... because who is gonna play this on the ds, kongs/animal buddies and finally the bosses... the dkcr bosses are terrible simply terrible... the only one that’s decent is thugly

The first DKC game for Super Nintendo is the best one in the series for me.
DKC3 was designed for Gameboy. The monochrome enemies, the basic backgrounds, etc. The best part was David Weiss redoing the sound track for the GB.

That's my problem with Mario Odyssey. What you said about DK 64 aplies to Odyssey. There's way too much to get and most of it is pretty tedious.
