Michael, I have used so many of your tutorials as I build toward my 1st attempt at stop motion at the age of 68. I made the camera track from the vinyl sliders but I found it a bit wobbly so doubled the tracks and screwed my wooden plate to 4 sliders instead of two. Much better as I have a tallish camera support attached to this dolly. Thanks for all your posts.
I never get tired of watching your tutorials. Every time I need a refresher I usually comeback to your videos. Still forget how much math actually goes into animating stop motion "precisely" nowadays. Keep up the awesome work teach.
Thanks! I've heard it referred to as "intuitive mathematics", which seems about right, as the more you animate the more you will intuitively know how long a certain action will take.
This is amazing. There were so many great tricks and tips in this video that I'm blown away. On my channel I occasionally do some relatively rough animation but I plan on making some animations on future episodes that are smoother. This is a wealth of fantastic information. Thank you!
You did not discuss how to move an armature with or without a rig while camera is moving. That robot does not require a rig. But you showed a clip that conveys an armature that requires a rig. (unless they use anchors}. Maybe you cannot use a rig on a moving camera.
Countless videos ago…. And I get: “Do the movement, timing it, then divide into the # of frames needed…” Did ANY other video tell me this?! Nooo! 🤦♀️ 😘👍
What if you’re shooting a scene and you’ve been shooting all day and you’re still not done with that scene and you have to continue for the next time?what do you usually do, do you just leave the lights where they are, turn them off, and turn off the camera? How do you do all that without shaking the camera or moving the lights by mistake?
When shooting at home, I can't imagine being able to resume a shot a day later. Something is going to change. When shooting at a studio with everything locked down, shots would still change a little over night. The table settles a bit due to change in room temperature, lights change brightness a bit. My experience has been that it is next to impossible to expect everything to remain the same. But if there is a big camera move or objects are making big moves, you could get away with it by leaving the shot while things are changing anyway.
Hi Micheal … great video… do you know any good apps to use to do lip sync? I have stop motion pro on my iPad which is great… but can’t do much with the sound to sync up…. Unless u know more? Just wondering if u you know anything good to use on a app platform? Really helpful videos

If I was doing it, I would add the cyclone and falling rain as a composited 2D element. I don't know how it could be done as an on-camera effect. For rain drops hitting the ground, you can crumple little bits of cellophane and have them randomly appear and disappear on the surface.
Question for you about apeture flicker, for a beginner stop motion animator who eliminated light flicker and can only afford or only has automatic lenses, is apeture flicker that bad in the stop motion? Should I be overly worried about it?
I haven't tried an automatic lens, but I hear it's a problem. You could try a test with objects just moving around and changing the light reading to see if the lens changes the aperture too much.
@@rhysseddon7279 I have some lenses I got for my 35mm SLR in the 80's: 28mm, 50mm, and 70-210. All Ricoh. to use them for stop motion, I got a DSLR and an adaptor ring.
The figuring out how far you need to move it per frame is actually pretty smart

The camera support just needs to be stronger, better balanced, and more stable than one used for a phone.
