#!/... Tony comments on a dramatic game in mil. Brewer pitcher hits pujols and the next inning cardinal pitcher hits braun in the back. Tony comments on the incidents.
This is what he was saying. The Brewers pitched up and in to Pujols all series hitting him in the hand and another one inches away from his face. It's dangerous to pitch up and in to anyone and especially the MLB's best player. So LaRussa wanted to send a message back by hitting Braun in the back which is a harmless pitch. Can you wrap your mind around that?
"Who do you think was pitching, Gregg Maddux?" classic lol I laugh so hard when Tony say that. "Did it hit him?" stupid question if you're a reporter and asking questions please pay attention what is going on is not that hard.
Those of you calling him classless probably have never had as passionate a manager for your teams. We (the Cardinals fans) appreciate the fire that he brings virtually every game. There's a lot we wish he didn't do (tinkering, doghouse, etc..), but like it or not, TLR does this part of the game right.
So let me get this straight... It is not alright for the Brewers to unintentionally hit the Cardinals all-star slugger, but it is alright for the Cardinals to intentionally throw in twice in a row and hit the Brewers all-star slugger for payback. Excellent logic for a coach and team that feel like they can do anything they want while the rest of the league can't. You stay classy, St. Louis!
Game 6 is one for the ages, never saw another game like that!! Has to be the best game in World Series history. Down to our last strike twice...unbelievable...let's finish this with Carp in game 7!
@superfox14 I just looked this up...the Brewers made 111 errors which ranks 22nd, compared to 116 to the Cardinals made which ranks 27th. A Cardinals-Rangers World Series will be epic hitting wise. Two teams that are in the top 5 in runs, hits, RBI, Batting AVG, OBP, and OPS. Pitching wise, it's going to be a bullpen series. Which is obviously ok with us since STL's bullpen has more innings pitched than the starters themselves!
@TFSTACHE You are as well funny. Lets compare Freese's stats to Cruz's during the postseason (Freese stats 1st) Batting average-.425 .243 Runs-8 8 Hits-17 9 Doubles-5 2 Home runs-4 6 RBI-17 13 OPS-1.315 1.084 Sluggin Percentage-.850 .784 If that doesn't prove to you that Cruz isn't all that he has been I don't know what is
@mlbbaseball5 An amazing team with an amazing pitching staff. When you mention the Braves of the 90s I think of the legendary Greg Maddux who went undefeated on the road the same year the Braves won the WS. But this isn't the 90s, this is 2011. And winning the WS is hard, well la-dee-da. Sometimes you don't win based on a pitching staff, you win based on offense. And if last night was any indication, you could tell we are geared up for the postseason with a 3 homer game from Prince.
@TFSTACHE You were already wrong about the Cards not lasting long. I'm sure we're not overly worried about facing the Brewers pitchers after facing the pitching of the Phillies. Mil advantage is home field and your 3rd and 4th starters haven't looked good at all. Cards still have a better offense (esp now with Holliday back and it's not bad with Craig) and the regular season was a tie at 9-9. Cards have more veteran playoff experience and that could prove to be the difference. We'll see.
@superfox14 Its hard not to win with a team making that many errors. And if i'm correct, idk if I am or not, the MIL defense was one of the best during the regular season.
Why do people always think that World Series rings enables you to use whatever tactics are necessary to win games? LaRussa ordered his pitcher to bean Braun with a 97 MPH fastball and then shrugs it off. Braun has had his share of injuries this year and we don't need a senseless "message" pitch to send him to the disabled list. Not a smart move!
tony just probally was frustrated that he almost lost his best player and the best player in baseball so tony just sent the message back by hitting braun in the back. but he probally should of just said that
@TFSTACHE LOL you are somewhat correct. I believe the Cardinals had a 6 hitter hit 4 home runs in this postseason. Plus if you were a true baseball fan (like me) you would've known that Cruz was always capable of power like that. The cards made a former Cy Young Award winner and probably future Cy Young winner look like they were in the Rookie League they were that bad. I will admit it (unlike other) that luck will be a part of it but it always is. Its going to be an epic series. C u next year!
@TFSTACHE Told you about your 3rd and 4th starters, Pujols had a huge game, anyway Cards have the split now headed into a big game 3, Carp is on full rest so hopefully he comes close to repeating his performance in game 5 vs Philly, Gallardo is 1-3 vs StL in reg season with a 5.70 era, his 2 starts in Sept vs the Cards he pitched 10 2/3 and gave up a combined 11 er, I like the Card's chances
Ok it was a 83 mph slider v a 94 mph fastball. Motte was told from the top to do it if he wouldnt have been he would have stopped after he missed the first time
@majicman999 The point i was trying to make is the top 10 salaried teams USUALLY and I say USUALLY do better than bottom 2/3rds because they are able to buy a team. Pujols went through your farm system, good for him. Congrats you developed one player.
@Bean1227 there was absolutely no reason for the Brewers to intentionally hit Pujols in that situation. It was unintentional, plain and simple. Besides, the Brewers rarely (if ever) intentionally hit anyone. Under Yost, Macha, and now Roenicke, they've simply never played those games. Regardless, hitting Braun was absolutely intentional. TLR even said they did pitch inside to "send a message". Not sure how you can spin this any other way.
@TFSTACHE So if im understanding you you are saying Pujols is tho only player on the cards? So Pujols won the 06 WORLD SERIES vs the Tigers by himself? IF he did why wasnt he MVP? For the Cardinals anyone on the team can step up for them at anytime while the only 2 that can for you is Prince Fielder who is batting .308 against Carp and Ryan Braun who is hitting .227. while your entire team is hitting .258 against him including Morgan and Weeks. Our team is actually hitting .268 against Gallardo
This is an easy one - Tony doesn't say don't hit anyone - he says don't throw up and in ... that has been his position since he has been in St. Louis - I am sure that has been his position forever - it makes sense to me - when policing the game - why make the chance of injury greater
@superfox14 St. Louis, though, has been a thorn in the side of Gallardo his entire career, as he is just 1-7 lifetime versus the Cards with a 5.66 ERA in 11 starts, with all the damage Pujols does we probably only need him to hit well even if nobody else does
the brewers threw at a players head. Weaver just got suspended for same thing. If your going to hit a guy that bats .300 every year with 30 jacks and is in a tight race with you, thats wrong. The Cards came back with a ball to the back not the head to their allstar. It wasnt necessary for Beautencourt to run the bases the way he did.
@TFSTACHE ya but i think you forgot that winning the world series is hard and not necessarily the best team will win. Take the braves for example in the 90's. an amazing team with an amazing pitching staff. But they only managed to pull off one world series.
what's the big deal? did betancourt personally insult each member of the cardinal infield and his grandmother as he rounded the bases? what "amazing restraint" are you talking about?
looks like we are really up against it now..have to win both at home without Carp pitching either....pray for rain so Carp can pitch game 7 if there is one
@mlbbaseball5 NO!!! I'm the same way sort of, but probably not as bad as you are. My grandparents aren't watching this because of the inconsistency of the Cards, which I can understand. My question to STL is "How long exactly can the bullpen carry us?"
@teddybearvalcanoes :) You just had to bring up the stats. While I will not support a team from the Central Division, I will say that the Cardinals have proved to be the better team in this series. And this is coming from a Brewer fan to the core. They have gotten in by good ball play, great defense, and most of all insurmountable offense. But I still wonder, what would have happened had the Braves won one more game or had STL lost one more before the playoffs began?
@teddybearvalcanoes Oh my god. This is it? Okay, let me put a few stats by you this season. Pujols batted .545 against Gallardo, but the rest of the Cardinals, and it includes guys like Matt Holiday, Lance Berkman, Yadier Molina, etc., those guys are batting .105 against him. What does that say about the team? It says that if Pujols doesn't bail them out like he has his ENTIRE career, then I fail to see them getting any runs at all against Gallardo.
I just hate the "..All the idiots up there--not idiots- fans." Then, "Braun, we were trying to pitch him in too, just a little stinger." Then he goes on to say "We weren't trying to hit him" "We threw to balls in there real good, just to send a message. If he ducks them, it's all over, we don't hit em" What the f**k is that? If you're throwing a legitimate pitch, not trying to hit someone, you shouldn't have to duck. Saito had a wild pitch & LaRussa trys to hit Braun
Too many comments from peope that don't know baseball. First of all, I thought the Cardinals showed amazing restraint earlier in the game when Bettencourt rounded the bases in his best "Steve Garvey fist in the air pose"...IN THE 5TH FREAKIN INNING! SERIOUSLY? I can't believe someone didn't get knocked down then. So then Milwaukee hits Albert Pujols, and every baseball person knows what's coming next. Braun should have been hitting the dirt as soon as Motte wound up. It's CALLED BASEBALL
@TFSTACHE lol wasted offense - that's quite a theory there, you should be worried about Gallardo...he's your only starter who is pitching well, if Cards take game 3 it may not make it back to Mil
Hit. Not hitting. Happened once on a wild pitch from a 41 year old. And that's cool fine, whatever, but to say "we weren't trying to hit him." Bullsh**. At least admit it.
@TFSTACHE That is true most people will forget about it including me probably. No luck was needed considering we won big and we will win tonight facing Marcum who has been horrible in this postseason. We'll see you next year during the regular season. Because you told me not to mention them I will...vs. STL 11.2 IP 15 H 11 R 8 ER 4BB 6 K 1.63 WHIP 6.17 ERA Marcum vs STL 4.0 IP 7 H 5 R 5 ER 1 BB 1 K 2.00 WHIP 11.25 ERA not the guy I would want pitching to save the season. Its all resting on him
@teddybearvalcanoes we got 11 now...hope Pujols is ok, the Braun call makes up for the bad call earlier at the plate on Pujols...Mil defense falling apart yet again in this game...set a record for errors in the NCLS...reminds me of Detroit in the 2006 World Series
@ThaCarterLilWayneIV Agreed. He tries to cover up the fact that THEY HIT BRAUN! The next three games are going to be the games where the Cardinals prove themselves or they FINALLY STOP COMPLAINING!!!! I say for every time LaRussa complains we hit a homerun.
@teddybearvalcanoes The Rally Squirrel is something they came up with on the fly. It is nice to know that by opening day it will be long forgotten by even the most die hard St. Louis fans. But I do get your point. I say the winner of game 5 will win the NLCS. Best of luck, you guys will need it considering Greinke's numbers against St. Louis in Busch Stadium. And don't even bother saying what Greinke's numbers this year on the road have been. You wouldn't be the first to mention them.
@superfox14 Buddy, how I'm I wrong? If you look at my other comments you will see that I have been correct in my statements. Both the Brew Crew and the Cardinals have palyed excellent baseball to get to this point, but ultimately it will come down to who can lock down and pitch good, and quite frankly I just don't see that happening. Do I see a sweep, hell no. But I don't see it going more than 6 games. And its going to be so enjoyable to read your reaction once the Brew Crew make the WS.
@TFSTACHE how did they get in by luck. all in all, the cardinals had more wins than the braves at the end of the season. and we are in the world series so apparently we are a post season calibur team and how can you call the cardinals classless when the brewers have a guy like nyjer morgan
@stanpujols Good thing its based on his managerial career and not his playing. His career batting average is lower than his average nightly blood alcohol content.
@chicky282 Brewers were not trying to intentionally hit Pujols. Why would they want to load the bases with none out and Matt Holliday coming to the plate. You have a lot to learn about baseball.
@TFSTACHE Yea we won't last long were in the NLCS with a nobody team that is a waste of the Cardinals time. Anyways we have the momentum going into this series as we beat the team that was suppose to win the world series. And yes almost all world series championships are won with pitching. If you have no pitching your just going to give up home runs all day long Goldschmidt and Roberts remind you of anything? The Cards have one of the best pitching staffs and hitting lineups in all of baseball.
@superfox14 *shakes head* The Cardinals wasted most of their offense on one game. You think I'm worried about what the stats say of Gallardo vs St. Louis. They should have saved those runs for when they were in St. Louis, now its just going to be ugly when you see the Brewers allow only seven runs in three games at St. Louis. I applude your Cardinals for at least not making it a sweep, if they win another game they'll have may team's full attention.
@teddybearvalcanoes I heard during the game that they were 13th in the league...out of 16 teams..that's not very good..they make some nice plays but really butcher other ones
@superfox14 Yea...its now 9-4!!! its a home run derby out there! I don't really care as long as the Cards finish the game with more runs than the team of "Monsters."
@teddybearvalcanoes Well the Cardinals won and I give them credit. But the cost was steep, in the fact that LaRussa retired and Pujols left. My best wishes to both men, and as for the Cardinals, heres hoping they can remain competitive.
@mlbbaseball5 Looks like I owe you an apology. Granted I did not give the Cardinals any chance of winning, they certainly provided a more thrilling WS because of it. And yes the better team won the NLCS, even if I didn't want to admit it. LaRussa went out the only way any manager should go out. By being on top as a World Series champion.
@mlbbaseball5 im a brewer fan and i agree with mlbbaseball. although i do agree that larussa has his moments of mad genius type behavior. but u guys have the wins and u guys have the championships so i guess it works. better watch out the cuz roenicke could become a great manager as well.
@TFSTACHE Yes i do know it which is why the Cardinals are the best team this year. Only the best teams can come back from bottom of the celler 10 1/2 back beat the Phillies(who were the favorites to win the World Series) and a somewhat opponent called the Brewers
@mlbbaseball5 Because the Cardinals acted like a bunch of spoiled brats that complained about us cheating with our LED lights, with the shadows at their OWN BALLPARK for crying out loud. Your right in saying that the cardinals had more wins, but around August 24th, not so much. In fact, they were only 4 games over .500. I don't consider that to be post season calibur with 30 games left in the season. Rangers will win in 6, count on it.
@teddybearvalcanoes yeah..Rangers had to steal this game to keep it close..I have no doubt that they can bounce back and take care of business in Texas with Craig in the lineup, this is a really important series for us, we win I think Pujols and La Russa are both back for next year, btw have you heard when Wainwright will be back?
@teddybearvalcanoes True the stats say Freese's is the better hitter, but the Rangers have had all of their guys from the leadoff man to the #9 hitter contribute to a whole bunch of runs. And while you guys have five good hitters, the Rangers have at least seven, I mean why else would they put up a guy who made MLB postseason history with 6 homers, in the 7th spot in the batting order? And if you say its because of batting average forget it, it is the postseason, screw batting averages.
@TFSTACHE First of all, we had a 2nd year starter pitching in an NLCS game, so hes not going to do his best obviously, and our future cy young award winner Adam Wainwright was out for the season. If he didn't have Tommy John we would of won the central and we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Wait till next year when you face Adam cuz you arn't going to do good against him next year cuz you guys never do. There is no need to pray cuz it is most likely they will win with Jackson.
@TFSTACHE Where was your teams hitting in game 2? that's right blowing the Cards c**k! I sure in hell didnt see no pitching from them either!12 runs!12!!! thats a record against the brewers in a playoff game. But i got to give it 2 your "Brew Crew" for heating Pujols up for this series. There was no need to pray anyways cuz we won and will win atleast 2 of 3 in STL so you better pray that the Brewers will one in Milwaukee. I hope your teams players balls will drop and make the series interesting.
Cardinals you shouldn't say that I'm not accusing him of it but look at a bunch of his close friends A Rod Ortiz Manny Palmero Tejada all those guys. All these guys in MLB have got caught lying & by being friends with them all doesn't make it impossible for him either. Again not saying he did but with these MLB liars don't assume nothing anything is possible.
@teddybearvalcanoes Then why did SportsCenter, a nationally televised program for sports, say that THIS YEAR everyone on that joke of a team except Pujols, was hitting a COMBINED .105 against Gallardo. And by the way, we are probably going to lose this series, but hey at least we don't celebrate by putting the idiotic gesture known as the Rally Squrrel. If the Brew Crew can't beat the Red Birds, then I pray to God that the Texas Rangers will beat them.
@teddybearvalcanoes Cards already killing Marcum..4-0 in the first...maybe should have been 5-0 since Pujols looked like he was safe...what a postseason for Freese!
@TFSTACHE yes I saw that too but on espn.go it said they were hitting .268 so yeah. How the fuck is the Rally Squirrel an idiotic gesture??? If it is the the Brewers mascot sliding down a slide is to! Most teams have something to do with a rally aka rally monkey for the Anglels. And I just hope the Brewers will try and make the series interesting. A Rangers-Cardinals World Series would be on of the best WS matchups in recent years....But we'll win! :)
@SuperPackerBOY Can you believe these guys. The cardinals are blaming us for "cheating" at Miller Park. True, the Brewers home record is off the charts, but that does not mean we are cheating. LaRussa is a clown who makes his team act like a bunch of spoiled children when they are not in first place. Time for them to put up or shut up in this next series. All I can say is that I hope they brought their balls the next three days.
@teddybearvalcanoes In all honesty, I now believe that they might just win the WS yet. However, they will be facing a team that made Verlander, a 24 game winner, seem like a minor leaguer, not to mention an offense that had their #7 hitter hit 6 homeruns in the ALCS. This time you will need all the luck you can handle. GO TEXAS RANGERS!!!!
@teddybearvalcanoes Cards win!! Last we'll hear from the Brewers for awhile, I have no idea about the Rangers except that they can really hit and apparently have one ace, at least the Cards have home field, hope we can bring home #11
this is exactly what the Cardinals are missing. Managerial fire and passion. we need this back
This is what he was saying. The Brewers pitched up and in to Pujols all series hitting him in the hand and another one inches away from his face. It's dangerous to pitch up and in to anyone and especially the MLB's best player. So LaRussa wanted to send a message back by hitting Braun in the back which is a harmless pitch. What a game! Pujols with an unbelievable game, amazing!! Almost no words to describe what he did tonight.
"Who do you think was pitching, Gregg Maddux?" classic lol I laugh so hard when Tony say that. "Did it hit him?" stupid question if you're a reporter and asking questions please pay attention what is going on is not that hard.

@kottyking His DUI his car was parked on the side of the road but it was on. The car was in park.
Brewers fans he called us idiots. Band together to support the Brewers like no other team can be supported
@superfox14 The only thing ive heard is possibly back for spring training.
@superfox14 Wow, thats original. You come up with that yourself or did your mom think of it for you?
TLR was leading the Indy 500 until he fell asleep at the wheel during a pit stop.
@ignitor53095
the difference is braun didn't get hit on his wrist that was broken. He got hit in the back big whoop
its going to be another good game today
Did you even read my comment?
@Bean1227 there was absolutely no reason for the Brewers to intentionally hit Pujols in that situation. It was unintentional, plain and simple. @superfox14 Since 1993, every home team to win Game 1 has gone on to win the World Series. This better hold true this year.
yes! thank you!

keep bashing him but in the end, hes wearing 3 rings that any of yall would kill to have

At least admit it.
yes its just you defending your team just like im defending mine
@teddybearvalcanoes Well it was a strike away from happening and you know it.
@teddybearvalcanoes actually the record is 13...but that was vs the Cards as well! Game 6 of the 1982 World Series Cards beat the Brewers 13-1
@stanpujols yep.
@SuperPackerBOY they had been throwing in on pujols all series and close
@TFSTACHE how did they get in by luck. all in all, the cardinals had more wins than the braves at the end of the season. and we are in the world series so apparently we are a post season calibur team and how can you call the cardinals classless when the brewers have a guy like nyjer morgan
@stanpujols Good thing its based on his managerial career and not his playing. His career batting average is lower than his average nightly blood alcohol content.
@mariontoyotascion agreed
Brewers are a little too cocky for me. Good to know I don't have to see them again this year.
Did Molina miss taking his meds?
@teddybearvalcanoes I heard during the game that they were 13th in the league...out of 16 teams..that's not very good..they make some nice plays but really butcher other ones
@superfox14 Yea...its now 9-4!!! its a home run derby out there! I don't really care as long as the Cards finish the game with more runs than the team of "Monsters."
@Nintendofan51 in other words, there's no crying in baseball!
@superfox14 Hope Jackson can give us 5 or 6 good innings and then turn it over to the pen to finish this off
@teddybearvalcanoes Well the Cardinals won and I give them credit. But the cost was steep, in the fact that LaRussa retired and Pujols left. My best wishes to both men, and as for the Cardinals, heres hoping they can remain competitive.
I am a Cubs and the same stuff happens with them too
@TFSTACHE haha but cards are a postseason calibur team. you and your IF's. we could IF all day long.
Rangers will win in 6, count on it.
hr Craig!! 3/3 so far with 3 rbi!!
@GGAllStars if thats the case then larussa still could have been a career .400 hitter and still be lower than his BAC
@44musicluver You're an idiot if you think Pujols uses or ever used steroids.
@brewers123abc First off I agree with your Larussa bashing, but if you want to call scoreboard and start playing the Packers card. Just remember 1982.
@44musicluver Only if you want people to take your opinions seriously.
@GGAllStars cause he got hurt. Should of seen that man play ball in Tampa.
@teddybearvalcanoes Cards win!! Last we'll hear from the Brewers for awhile, I have no idea about the Rangers except that they can really hit and apparently have one ace, at least the Cards have home field, hope we can bring home #11
