As we can see here, the red line started at 11000 RPM ! The steering wheel is also not the original one, it seems to be, but it is not. The stock honda S800 engine redlines at around 10,000 RPM. That engine was an engine of the time, an 800cc I4 engine based off of Honda's motorcycle engine technology. It produced around 70 horses and pushed the S800 into the record books as the first sub liter automobile that could break the 100MPH barrier.
Looks like he repainted the tach. Factory redline was 8500. I don't recall 11000 ever being listed as an official spec for any team version of this either, but interesting question.
lots of people think its a motorcycle engine, and i get that cause its can get so high up its revs but Its not a motorbike engine. its a hig reving car engine and tho redline is at 8.5k RPM you can easily take them to 11K indeed. Lots of people think its a honda motorbike engine but its actualy a engine designed specific for cars. since honda didnt have a watercooled motorcycle engine by that time. It was made with knowledge of the earlier honda s600 and s500 models. and as far as i know they were made with the knowledge honda got from their formula 1 experience.
