    Very good advice. 11. Don't play loud music after quite time. 12. Pick up after your pet. I have plenty more but these seem to happen the most. Lol. Love the chairs.

    Something I have done a few times is, if there is a sawmill in the area or a logging operation, check with them. They will usually let you have some scrap slabs or branches too small for them to use. One logging guy even cut the branches into firewood size pieces for us.

    Chills me to think so many areas could be closed and off limits by the time I retire, acquire a rig and get out there. Thanks for spreading the word. Leave no trace is so important and respectful of the next to arrive. Take care guys

    I truly believe you got it right. Those are the rules that matter. However, our family would also like to bring up; picking up after your pets. The last thing people want to do, is to go boondocking and find the perfect spot full of dog waste... NO, you don't have to pick up everything, but animal waste can make the area uninhabitable... So consider leaving the area better than you found it and that includes pet waste.... Keep up the great work guys... You are the best...

    Thanks for addressing the issue of trash in this video. I find it to be one of the most difficult problems for full timers out boondocking. You can’t take it home with you.When spending weeks boondocking last year, we didn’t see any videos on the subject of what to do with our trash. It is very disappointing to find other people’s trash out in the wilderness. In one town we were able buy prepaid trash bags that we could take to the dump when full. At another place, in Utah, I asked at a gas station if I could use their dumpster.

    Another GREAT video and another reason why all kids should go into scouting OR at least the family should go camping every year. These things are taught and you do it without even thinking about it, such as Pack in, pack out, leave it cleaner than you found it, latrines, etc. Yes, I was a Den mother and then a Asst. Scoutmaster of my son's Boy Scout troop. Lot's of fun was had! Now, I"m a granma who can't camp "out" like I used to, and have a 5th wheel... that's what I get for laughing at people in RV's now I AM the person in the big RV and calling it "camping'! *shrug*

    How is dumping and dispersing your grey water tank into the bushes any different from using your outdoor shower, or tent campers washing their dishes over the ground? Or relieving themselves in the bush? We have actually used our grey water (sadly, many times) to put out campfires carelessly left behind by others.
    As for the black tank, I have wondered how discretely dumping it in the bush, away from all camp spots, is any different from the guy driving our local honeywagon that empties our septic tank gold on his personal garden. We have never done this, but since we never put any toilet paper into our toilet, opting instead to place it all into a plastic bag and discarding it with our garbage, how would our dumping it in a field or forest be any different from moose scat. Are you guys aware of how many cities actually dump your raw sewage into lakes and rivers on a regular basis? Again, I'm not advocating doing so but let's be realistic.
    Of course we should all be good stewards of our planet, but in an emergency situation, and given the right spot, I honestly would not hesitate dumping my tanks.
    Let the bashing begin.
    * After reading some comments I had to add and pass on this little tidbit of observed wisdom.
    In our many years of boondocking and campground stays we have seen a lot - good and bad.
    As we sat in our RV in a small, no service campground looking out over the beautiful scenery we watched as our neighbors packed up and began cleaning their lot. What considerate people, we thought, as we noticed the guy with a small shovel in hand picking up the poop piles from his rather large dog's weekend business excursions. To our horror he began tossing the stinky messes into the fire ring!! OMG!! Into the fire ring ... where the next campers will do their cooking!!!
    So, you all know that some people pee on the fires and now you know some toss dog poop in there. Lesson to be learned? Carry a small flat ended shovel and clean out any existing fire rings or pits you may use ... always! God only knows what else may have been tossed in there. And discard your pet waste into a garbage bag or toss it way into the bush where it can do no harm. I doubt it makes for a good cooking fire.

      We got them on Amazon, they fold up like camp chairs. There is a picture on Amazon that shows them folded up. Here's the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B084T7DRNG?ref=exp_getawaycouple_dp_vv_d

    Aren’t there areas in the US where it is legal to dump the grey tank? I’ve seen people do it sometimes in other states (and you are right, it is gross 🤢). But on one occasion, I was privately having a panic attack watching someone dump and people from our group saw my face and made a point to tell me it was legal to dump grey water in that part of the US. 😳

    • @Henle15
      @Henle15 3 года назад +1

      grey tank water is just dirty water and possible soap in it. Nothing worse than washing a car with soap or taking a shower outside. Black tank water is definitely a no, but in some places grey water is fine.

    • @GetawayCouple
      @GetawayCouple  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the question, and the response. I think it varies in different places. We have seen campground rules that say no tank dumping of either kind due to a environmental rule in the area.

    That all makes a lot of sense. Having hiked BLM lands, I have to agree with packing out what you pack in as rule #1. Can't wait to put a decent battery bank in to try this--need to do that because I put in a residential fridge...

    We're at a campground that doesn't have power/water. Basically boondocking. The guy 3 spots down is committing the biggest generator sin: Using a normal generator, not an inverter generator. And yes, it's loud. Thankfully, we left while he was using it.
    I have a Predator 3500 and it can't be beat for the price. Should last a long time with proper maintenance.

      It's tougher in a campground for sure. We have had to fire ours up on occassion, but try to be mindful. Gotta love the Predator!

    #9 definitely! BLM is usually wide open and it is SO rude when people park right next to you. I once had to leave because a guy in a giant 5th wheel backed up to almost touching the front of my van so it violated my view and space. The guy refused to pull forward and there was a lot of room. It is basically bullying people out of a spot.
    Inverter generator is awesome

    It always amazes me how inconsiderate people can be. I've been to many boondocking sites where I've hade to clean up prior to setting up myself. Though we have to remember that the people who are so undisciplined to leave their trash and so forth are really a small percentage of campers and RVers, I'd say less than 5%.

    I'm probably the only one who noticed this, but Jason should have probably have chosen a less worn pair of jeans for this video. Otherwise a great video and I totally agree with all 10 points you brought up. It's all (to me, anyway) basic common sense and courtesy, but obviously a LOT of folks lack both. I've tent camped on BLM lands many times and some of the messes I've found left behind by previous campers is just horrendous and appalling.

      Public land open to us as recreation areas for activities like boondocking. Bureau Land Management (BLM) lands offer an incredible opportunity for free RV parking in some spectacular places. Here's a link to a blog we wrote a while back that contains some links with more information: www.getawaycouple.com/blm-boondocking-rules/

    gas generators are completely unnecessary. you just dropped 50-100k on an RV. Spend a few more and kit it out with solar generation and a fat inverter. and you dont need electricity to make coffee. I know I know - everybody do what they do. but it seams silly to shell out a wad and then cheap out. Like the dude with the high zoot porsche dumping the cheapest low octane gas he can find in it.
