Can you tell me what that paper is on top? Is it held on w/ the clip on the side - or is it sticky? I"m about to get unfinished wood that, unlike proof grade, won't have the paper covering. Thanks
Yes, it's called masking. Basically it's like a huge sheet of scotch tape that you can put on the wood to help limit smoke stains. 🙂 You can find out the masking I use on my Glowforge Must-Haves Amazon list here: www.amazon.com/shop/bookthingsbaublese-shop
Do you ever paint the main body of projects?? I sanded pieces before painting but the paint rubs right off of the PG Glowforge wood. Have you had this problem? Thanks
I have painted the main body of projects before, but never using the PG Glowforge wood. From what I remember about the PG wood I received in the tester kit, it's covered with some sort of lacquer that gives it a little shine & a smooth feeling. Sanding is a great idea! Maybe you just need to use a different grit or sand deeper to make sure you get past all the lacquer? Thanks for the question! Good luck with your project!
@@book_things_and_baubles Thank you- I wish they wood state that upfront before purchasing it or give you recommendations on paints or stains to use. I sanded all pieces pretty well because I didn't like the rough feel after taking the masking off; so I was surprised that the paint did not stick. Thank you
Likely the best order would be to seal the wood before laser engraving, then again apply sealer in the laser-engraved areas before applying paint. This should keep the paint from spreading. You'd avoid having to sand altogether, which is especially important when using plywood with thin top layers.
Hope you all are doing well! What should I try color filling next?

If you mask it and keep the masking on you don't need to sand :) Or at least it's minimal.
