    Love This. I do something similar. Where you are wiping away the paint I wrap my wet paper towel in a cricut scraper (As that is what I have - any type of squeegee would work) and use as a squeegee and find I get a nice clean scrape without wiping away the paint from the design.

    Thanks. New laser cutters are coming out with inkjet print heads. Will save you hours of painting, and look perfect.

      Sounds interesting but possibly expensive. The inks, especially for wood is very expensive and often do not come in white. I will keep my eye out1

    I’ve been playing around with some designs for charcuterie boards and wanted to learn more about filling in the etching /engraving with epoxy. Your tutorials will certainly help.

      It is not as bad as you think. After color filling the white, where you see the black is actually higher than the white, so it is easy to lightly touch that raised area. I have moderate arthritis and don't have a problem. Sometimes I will even have to use a magnifying glass, but is really easier than you think.

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  3 месяца назад

      I have an older Epilog Mini 50 Watt laser. However, any laser should work fine. You may have to do multiple passes to get a good depth.

      Easy Peasy. If you are new to lasers, then just play. A LOT! Get your hands on as much scrap wood as possible. Honestly, color filling is easy once you practice a little. Once you start, a whole new world will open up to you! AND most importantly, have fun!

    What other sealers can be used as for some reason Shellac isn't that easy to get in the UK?

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have heard that. I think you would need to experiment a little. Try a polyurethane or a polyacrylic. I think they take longer to really dry. Look for other products by Zinsser. They make the Bullseye shellac that I use. Good luck.

      Great video, appreciate the brushing tips too!
      FYI, I have had polyurethane yellow on me after mild UV exposure. Polyacrylic might be a better alternative.

      I've used clear acrylic spray paint before for sealing wood for either paint or CNC carve and paint

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  9 месяцев назад

      @@rslazas Will have to give them both a try. I am not sure both are good as actual wood grain sealers. I tried a varnish once and it did not really work as a grain sealer. However, if you use a clear varnish at the very end that has UV protection in it, it is a great finish. That will help with the yellowing.

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  7 месяцев назад +1

      I have an Epilog laser. You could use a CNC or even hand carve with a chisel or an electric hand carver.

    use a squeegee and do all the white in one pass, not 10

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  Месяц назад

      Thank you. I have tried that myself, but didn't get the results I was looking for at least in my designs on this wood. Also, white will pick up the burn from the laser, so typically, you will need a few passes with drying in between to get it a bright white. Love the suggestion and will try it again. Cheers.

    Why are all these videos labeled color fill when it is just painting.

    • @1elephantmemories
      @1elephantmemories  8 месяцев назад

      There are all different mediums you can use to add color to your engraving. Using paint is one, colored epoxy is another, acrylic ink or even straight up pigment powder.
