This was an incredible experience for me to re-live this gameplay. My dad died in May 2020 and this is the first console i ever had as a child and we would play together for hours. We even had the handheld version.
That's a great memory. RIP to your father. I won a T16 in a sales contest from my summer job when I was a kid and remember how excited I was when I got home and hooked it up. I believe my stepfather was proud at that moment and he passed earlier this year.
I dont care what anyone says. I love this game. My mother never watch us growing up. So my father took me and my relatives to his work. And there was a tv and turbo graphics with Keith courage in Alpha zones and galica 90. In his office. Me and my brothers would take turns if one of us died or pass the level....the hours we played. I will always love this game
one of the strangest games of my childhood in the early 90's, but TG16 was so fast and still impresses me to this day. When they made Castlevania on it I was seriously blown away. TurboGraphix games were really fun.
An awkward title, slightly better than 8-bit graphics, and being based on a totally unfamiliar anime didn't help Keith Courage sell TurboGrafx-16 consoles, but that didn't stop it from being quite an entertaining game. Get past its warts and you'll find it to be a pretty charming and fun title, I think.
Neil Guyer70 Probably going to end up using this strategy, as it’s unfortunate that there is no lives system, so you have to run through each Underworld segment each time you die to the boss. Makes it harder to want to do anything when learning the boss, but just get it over with...
My parents bought a Turbo GrafX 16 for me for Christmas the year it came out. This was the first game I played and it brings back fond memories of my childhood.
Same here. Great memories, even if watching it now all these years later, I'm very underwhelmed by what I'm seeing. Through the eyes of a child and all that, I guess. Good times!
dave4shmups I love the colors too! Given how often the game vomits rainbows at you, it definitely fits the bill :) Especially during that seizure-inducing screen flash in the ending!
Series in Japan is called, Mashin Hero Wataru. Keith Courage is a NA swap much like Mario 2. Only learned this when I saw the Nova Suit in Robot Wars X for the switch.
I'll never forget getting the Turbo Grafix 16 from my Dad for Christmas. I was soo happy. What a great game this was and a awesome system especially for a 9 yr old.
Dude this video brought back a ton of nostalgic memories ! My dad bought this system when I was like 2 or 3 and he would play it. Than I got older and I was playing this system along the super Nintendo! What great memories and video game. 😊
Those walking revolver enemies are absolutely amazing. Director: We need you to design some enemies. Make something cool. Designer: Cool- like a giant head with arms and legs wearing sport shades with a revolver zip-tied to its head, cool? Director: Hell yeah. Giant revolver you say? Will it shoot? Designer: No
Coming back to the gameplay and seeing the Mashin Hero Wataru characters represented so well after experiencing the anime and characters in Super Robot Wars W is a bit of a trip. Makes me wonder how man other games the anime got that were never ported. And it was a damn good game to boot.
So, basically 2 level layouts. The end. My neighbor had this game and I was jealous as fuck because I wanted to play/beat it. Come to find out, I was jealous for nothing. Thanks for the vid.
Fun game. At first I thought the non-mech parts were boring. But it actually brings a nice balance to the gameplay. Yin and Yang. Kind of like ActRaiser did, with its town building parts.
My mom had brought home a TG-16 one day with this game. Have no idea where she got it. We never got another TG-16 game, you had to order them from Sears. My mom wasn't ordering shit back then, so I mastered Keith Courage. And only dreamed of playing the games I'd see screenshots of in the Sears catalog like Legendary Axe, Vigilante, Bloody Wolf, Bonk, Splatterhouse and China Warrior. I got the tg-16 mini, and China Warrior is the worst game ever, but back then it looked awesome .
As far as pack-ins go I liked Keith Courage better than Altered Beast. Altered Beast had a bit more variety to the levels but with the music, the over-world and variety of monsters, Keith Courage definitely had more charm.
Just learned this game came with the TurboGrafx! This actually looks awesome! I'm sure having such a silly name didnt help this game or the Turbografx 😂. This had an entirely different title in Japan and IIRC is actually based off an anime!
This brings back so many memories and bring back the times then things were a lot better in the world. To tell you the truth I still like the turbo Graphics 16 that was a good idea back then it was only two systems that I really liked was Sega Genesis and turbo Graphics 16
Honestly, you don't even need to go after the alpha sword in the robo zone (zone 7). The Alpha sword in the magic zone (zone 6) is the same exact sword but half the price.
i like how the last boss is almost impossible unless u angle the fall to land right in front of it. still asleep lol. cool thing about these cards is that they would come w a booklet explaining the game characters more in depth thru story line.
I loved playing this game but farming those lucky cats til the ruby coins and farming the bomb upgrades were tedious but necessary task to finish this game.
Just bought the turbographix mini for my pops on Father's day. Gotta say, we played this game alot when I was a kid. Huge miss not including this game.
I was so pissed. I got to the last stage like probably 3 jumps from the last boss. I paused the game and didn't noticed I hit select after I hit start and the dam game restarted. I was like No No No what just happened. LOL.
Oh god, that's one think I hate about the Turbo. Resetting the game because I fat-fingered the Run button wasn't a super uncommon thing for me to do. Oh how I raged lol.
So weird how you suddenly get a Gundam and the game changes completely. Real boring first level turns cool immediately after. Bad first impression tbh though 😂
I used to love this anime when I was a kid, I even have the models of them that are easy to assemble. They were like a cheap version of Gundam marketed to younger kids
No doubt this disappointment of a flagship game contributed to the failure of TG16. Had Bonk's Adventure been included with the platform it would have had much greater success.
Nostalgia for me Today but back then the Game Scared me a little Bit..... I had Nightmares to the Game Over Theme Weird Right? Decades later I tried playing the Game again and it was ok! Outside of that I only had one Uncle who had the System not to long Ago he Passed away of being Unhealthy for Years... and I got my Hands on the System and Games I also have the CD Attachment with Street Fighter One but the CD-ROM Port is called Fighting Street I'm glad to own the System Today but I'll need to Fix the Controller Port on the System since it hasn't been used for Decades and Probably Lost Contact over time!

Yeah, that was called Spirit Heroes Wataru, subtitle in English but pretty interesting.

It IS underrated, just like everything else!
Playing this in 91/92, when I was like 2/3 pretty sure changed my mindset huge, much of life was mundane after that 😂😂😂.
"Look for the next Keith Courage adventure."
So that was a lie
I'm still waiting for that and Conan the King.

It’s actually based on an anime
Theres a Famicom game thats a sequel of somewhat.
There's a Playstation 1 game.

Excellent platforming and good reflexes. It's so easy to get caught off-guard in this game :P
"There isn't that much grinding involved."
(Half the video is grinding for gold in the overworld...)
Yeah, this entire game is gold coin farming.
@@JustinHall1976 But he didn't even buy the alpha sword at the end!
My childhood in a nutshell! I remember this game was included with my Turbo Graphics 16 for free. A Christmas present from my dad back in 1991.
The sounds shines almost as bright as the colors. I loved how powerful the Nova suit sounded. I loved this game. It was very distinct.
The glowing statues in the Boss rooms is something Genesis never could match I wish more games used this feature
Its kinda funny how in the first 5 minutes of the game he commits armed robbery and murder with a knife to buy bombs 😂.

Reminds me of the Flea Market Madness episodes with Frank.
I was about 12 years old when I first saw the commercial for TG16 with Keith Courage, and I my brain was completely blown!
That intro song takes me back
So, basically 2 level layouts. The end. My neighbor had this game and I was jealous as fuck because I wanted to play/beat it. Come to find out, I was jealous for nothing. Thanks for the vid.
The first part was goofy as hell but once he puts on the Nova suit it kicks into high gear, the pace and music hype you up.
I loved this game.
On level 2 when he gets the robot suit on and starts walking, I just realized that it's the same screen as Blaster Master on NES.

This bring back so many memories since I was a Kid
This game is legendary.
My intro to turbografx.
Bomberman and Vigilante 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I seen on IGN that they announced a Turbo Graphix 16 mini. Sucks that Kieth Courage, Splatterhouse, and the first Bonk are not on it.
They just added splatterhouse
That's the equivalent of sega genesis without sonic
Awesome video and game thank you !
This game was and still is bad ass. I beat it today after I could not beat it when it first came out.
Where did you find this game i been wanting to play this bad... please help.
they call me Keith "Grinding" Courage... this was (and is) the best retro coin farming simulator.....
Gotdamn the hours I use to play on this game, all the sounds bring back memories

This game had great music, which is no surprise given the system it was on. Bonk is another favorite.

I realized that this game was based off of an anime cartoon show called Spirit Heroes Wataru. And it was subtitle in English but pretty interesting.
And Judging By The Character Wataru (or keith courage)
His Spirit Dragon Became A Mechanized Warrior
(or in u.s. the nova suit)
Good game, but a terrible choice for a pack-in game for the TG16 in America
Fun to blaze through now and then.
This game had charm and it's own style gameplay, it's really not a bad game other than being tough and the character moving slow

This was the pack in for the TG16
Fun(?) fact: This game was developed by the same company that made Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES, Advance Communication.
Second Chapter never came out? :(
Technically not. The Japanese version was based on an anime which received a couple/few video games. I know there's one for the Famicom.
It's crazy to think that I spent $50 for this game. It's almost inconceivable. Mostly it's probably the memory hardware.
It was a pack in game tho

This game is actually based off of a 90s Japanese Anime call Wataru.
the song in the first stage reminds me heavily of one of the snes bomberman games
And the first battle theme is also reminiscent of Rygar on the NES...also scored by Michiharu Hasuya.
