Medical MaryJane-er here. If you want a seamless cruise, DO NOT bring the wacky tobacky. MMJ has replaced three prescriptions for me, which is great. But, I keep the prescriptions on hand for when I travel for this very reason. Part of the terms and conditions for getting my medical card were to agree to not bring it out of state. I don't even want to risk it by putting gummies in with my Vitamin C. I'm not putting a vacation, on which I spent $5-7k, at risk for some weed.

I have to be 100% honest, I’ve brought a pen and some gummies on a cruise before. I got away with it but it wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t worth the stress and anxiety of “what if they find it?” “What will I do” “how will I get home” “no way I spend thousands of dollars to get kicked off” just to be stoned on a cruise. The risk vs reward is incredibly unbalanced on the risk side

What people may not realise is that where the ship is registered trumps where the passenger is from. Just because it is legal to use a substance where a customer lives, be it medical or otherwise, if it is illegal where the ship is registered then this means it is illegal upon the ship at all times as that countries laws apply when you are aboard the ship. Additionally, if a substance is illegal at any port of call, then while in that country's waters (within 12mi of the coastline) then any substance that is illegal in that country also applies to the ship and all aboard, and as such, those laws will supersede any laws that says a substance is legal from any other jurisdiction, even those laws from where the ship is registered.
This is why it is illegal for MJ in the Caribbean/Bahamas, numerous countries there do not even permit it for medical purposes.
And if you’re thinking "but I’m not visiting a port where it is a banned substance" …well situations arise, such as weather changing the itinerary, or a medical event arises that may necessitate stopping at a port that such substance is illegal, which then puts the ships owners, and the passenger at risk of legal action in that country.
So just know that it is not the cruise lines looking to spoil your enjoyment, it is the fact that there are just too many unknowns and possible legal consequences should such substances be allowed onboard, regardless of if it is for medical or recreational purposes.
Hope this helps viewers understand the reasoning behind it.

@littleeva very dangerous. We always hear about the dangers of smoking, but rarely alcohol. Like smoking can take 10 years off your life, on average.. drinking can take 20 years off your life, on average! Drinking has become an important part of our culture and really it always has been. Even in ancient times people drank wine. It's also in the Bible which is the main reason why the western world doesn't want to give it up. There are a lot of unnecessary deaths due to alcohol every single year.
