Can A Fat Man Love This? Kokopelli Inflatable Kayak Review

  • We saw the Kokopelli inflatable boats at Overland Expo and thought, what a great idea. We don't really have a spot to store hard boats at the house so these are a way to get onto the water without the needed storage and conveyance issues that go with hard sided options. Weighing all in around 40 pounds packed up these seem like a fantastic solution.
Do they live up to our expectations? Check out the video and find out!

A very nice option for the casual paddler who doesn't have the ability to carry it on the roof. Cheers!! J & C

Ya they actually paddled better than I expected but were a little less than rigid for us bigger folk!

That's a lightweight kayak compared to other brands. Looks really good, and I bet it tracks better than our packraft version. Load capacity is definitely an issue and wind. Great information. Definitely our choice for our type of travel

Thanks for dropping by. When it is all packed up it is a bit of a handful, but once inflated it moves around pretty easily, even camera lady carries it around. Once I shed a few pounds I bet it tracks even better! hahah,

Yay! I'm so happy to see that you got out with the kayaks!
I cant believe we are almost into August. This year is cruising along!
I wonder why they discontinued these boats that hold more weight?
I like how they break down for easy storage, I could see as well that it didnt stay flat either. I'm glad it paddled well. They make a good starter option for folks with minimal storage space who may only use the boat a few times a year.
Thanks for the comprehensive test and review!

They really are nice boats and great for people who are not quite so rotund as me! I reckon when I lose my weight that sag will disappear!

Great review! I think you summed it up nicely. Great option for someone that doesn't have the ability to transport hard kayaks. It would take up minimal space in you vehicle and allow you to get on the water and explore a little. I wonder if they discontinued the bigger boats due to the way they sag in the middle. Looked like a perfect day out there!😎👍

Thanks for stopping by and I do think they are a great solution. I think the sag is totally on me and my fat arse and not an indictment of the boat as Camera Lady had no such issue, but I did want to point that out as there are some big dudes in the camping space! They are a great solution to save space and still get out on the water but they are not a replacement in my mind but I can see someone checking this onto a plane for example.
I am not sure why they discontinued the heavier kayaks and the only model they have now after reviewing the website that carry anything over 330# is a tandem model. When I see them next I will have to ask them.
It was a stellar day and we both were bummed we didn't have any fishing gear with us.

Looks like a good alternative to hard boats. Speaking from experience, storing and transporting a hard boat can be a pain. Also, I used to have a couple inflatable pontoons and found that if they were left out in the sun while inflated they soon "puffed" up to...what I thought...was almost their bursting point so be sure to occasionally check on your inflatables if left out in sun. Great review!

That makes perfect sense with expanding air. I have also heard that in cold water temps you need to take the pump and give them a few strokes as the air cools down and the pontoons deflate a bit. I expect more experience and you could adjust based on experience for the initial fill.

Thanks for the review.... No way in hell my big and tall butt would buy that thing... It bent waaaaaay to much.. You should consider a sea eagle fast track 385.. No bend and I used to be substantially heavier at 370lb plus ...
My fast track finally blew a seam, so I'm back in search mode for a newer kayak.

hahah-one must try but this one is definitely for a smaller person and it would have been helpful if they had talked about paddler weight instead of total boat capacity.

Thanks for the video mate, seen these advertised and just doing a bit of research. Im about 105 kg, wondering if it would sink in the middle with me too.

Not as much as with me! In all candor I am not sure and it seems this kayak is no longer in the catalog so perhaps the newer models have addressed this

It was inflated to their specs, yes.

Yes, I even called the company to ensure the proper inflation as there was a discrepancy between the tag on the boat and the instruction manual.

How much do you weigh? (heard you say 200lbs?)

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  9 месяцев назад +2

Geared up call it 270, but don't tell anyone! You could trim the boat by putting some weight in the front and back but I think a hard boat would suite me better (or do more paddling so I don't weigh so much!)

I know that they are convenient but I'm not sure I'd want to be in an inflatable kayak in the middle of any body of water

Other than my weight induced v-shape they paddled really well and were quite stable, and if they deflate we could float our way back to shore in our life vests!
