Dickin' Around Outdoors
США
Добавлен 31 май 2020
Call it what you want-camping, overlanding, RVing-it is all about getting outdoors and enjoying what this great world has to offer. I have been camping since I was a Boy Scout in the 1970s and have been amazed by the explosion of popularity in the last few years. There are always questions about gear, recipes, etc. so I created this channel in order to pass on information, recipes and product reviews of outdoor and camping equipment that I use hoping it will help those new to camping or looking for information to make more informed choices.
I look forward to having you join us on our journey and I look forward to learning from you as we go.

We will have to take a short break from content creation due to my having a total knee replacement. I expect a few weeks of physical therapy that will keep me near home and most likely out of the woods, but we will do as much content as we are able and look forward to getting back into the rhythm as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!

A lot has been written about the Grenadier and a lot of off road opinions have been shared, but few have come after hundreds of off road miles in some serious terrain. We drove our Grenadier in the NORRA Mexican 1000 Safari Class to see how it would handle the grueling Baja off road race course and share our highs and lows with you. You Mean Your Tent Doesn't Have One Of These?

We found this tent to be very comfortable, roomy and airy and is our go to basecamp tent. It is large and a bit heavy, especially with the accessories (must haves) but worth it if you will be staying for a few days. #snowpeak #camping #tent #bestcampingtent
The GreenPan Clip Vs. SPAM
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 месяца назад
In our product testing we had a look at the GreenPan Clip series for campers. We came away very impressed with the pans which perform great and seem to be made very well. We use GreenPan at home and have always been happy with it. Take care of it and it will take care of you. other than that a great review
comparing the steering feel to your Corvette is not a good comparison for me being that those are 2 extremes. How about to a Bronco or F150 or Landcruiser but NOT a Corvette!
Sauté is to 'jump' the food. So this is not a 'sauté' to the onion.. (fyi)
another nice video, THANKS ; I have passed this info on
You're really having fun with your Grenadier now!
It was an amazing trip, so much fun.
This was super helpful! Very nice video! Thank you!
Parchment paper helps
Thanks for the tip.
I’m going to try it tonight. What is the brand of Dutch oven you use?
We have a number of them and like them all-Le Creuset, Staub, Lodge (bare cast and enameled), and Borough Furnace.
Will the flame tamer work on the Coleman oven or any of the variants?
With the handle on the flame tamer it will not sit evenly under the coleman oven. For the Coleman (and this will be an upcoming test) I have purchased a small baking stone to go inside the oven to kill the direct heat from below.
Anything that has some lift, solid axles and the aerodynamics of a tin lunchbox is a pain in the ass at high speeds on the highway especially if there is gusts of wind. You addressed everything. Really nice detailed review.
Yes, with a really gusty side wind the Grenadier does take your attention!
What if you huse both . The flame tamer and the cilicone?
I think that would be fine to use both.
Why did you not purchase the thermometer which would give you a better idea of the actual temperature inside?
At the time I purchased mine I didn't know a thermometer existed. I am not sure how useful I personally believe the thermometer to be since the problems I have faced with the OMNIA are from the conduction of the heat from the stainless base plate to the thin aluminum cooking vessel which causes the burning issues. The thermometer would only measure the air temperature above the cooler food which is not where the issue is (ie not burning the tops of things). This is just my opinion.
@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 I understand. I have yet to use my omnia, but have a trip coming up soon. I previously may be 20 years ago used a similar device that had a nonstick skillet with a similar dome. There was a heat deflector that went over the stove and instead of a knob on the very top of the dome, there was a thermometer. Even though it's only the air above what you're cooking it's still gives you an objective reference to be able to say when you go back in to evaluate whether or not the temperature needs to be higher or lower or Cook time needs to be longer or shorter. Just way to evaluate the variables.
@@user-hh9qz2ho4j I have heard those old ones (the name eludes me) were quite popular.
The banks's way to $$$.
It is all relative.
@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 I guess so but you mentioned yourself the cost$ so when the light of this versus that cost is definitely a factor sometimes.
@@DS-md7jn Definitely a factor, I agree. For the money the Firebox is a great skillet and I would recommend it to anyone.
What comes across clearly from your review is that you do seem to love the vehicle and to me it does seem fantastic value for money considering things like the galvanised frame, aluminium body, the many quality components (seats, transmission, suspension, brakes etc). However for me in the UK the physical size and weight make it difficult to own. Not just because of the resulting fuel consumption (it's OVER $7 a gallon here), it also I believe means it's classed as a commercial vehicle making insurance difficult and expensive and can only be driven at a max of 60mph instead of 70mph etc.
That does sound like a bit of a drag on the UK demand for sure. Does the stripped down 2 seater fall into that category as well?
Is it possible to plug it into a powerbank and charge it during high winds? Appreciate it.
It does have an output that can charge external devices yes. It has to be a USB A plug.
Thanks for the video mate, seen these advertised and just doing a bit of research. Im about 105 kg, wondering if it would sink in the middle with me too.
Not as much as with me! In all candor I am not sure and it seems this kayak is no longer in the catalog so perhaps the newer models have addressed this
It was inflated to their specs, yes.
Nice food “porn” music…. Good stuff thank you for the video
Brilliant comparison, this video has helped me make a decision! Thanks for sharing……
I am glad you found it helpful!
Great review! Thanks. You are the first one talking about the small steering wheel…
Thanks and we appreciate you watching and checking out the channel!
Excellent video Dick. I followed it to the letter and it worked a treat. Did you ever find out about the smart alternator cable? I left off as you did. Many thanks!!!!
The only things I have seen more recently about the smart alternator is contradictory. First CTEK sent a note and said it is normally not hooked up in a consumer application. But also I have seen replies from CTEK that say hook it up if unsure. With my Grenadier stuck in San Diego waiting to be diagnosed after crapping out in Mexico I have not had the chance to really do much else with it.
Yeah I saw that. I hope that gets fixed ASAP. Good luck! A quick vid of solar up and running would be great. By installing the 250 I’ve just future proofed right now for a big trip next year. So still looking at the solar solution.
@@FRO5TBYTE When I get the truck back I will be looking forward to putting up some more videos!
We are looking forward to taking this tour in '25. Thank you for the great travel vlog.
I think you will enjoy it. It is a beautiful island and the ride was very nice. Be sure to swing into the local shop along the trip for some cheese and wine-it makes a great lunch!
I don't know what you do or did for a living; however, your ability to speak off the cuff is amazing.
Thanks
Confession is good for the soul! :)
That it is.
Absolutely enjoy your channel! I only found it today after looking at tons of the same Ineos channels with the same worthless content. I have owned at least six Jeeps over the years and have been considering the Ineos Grenadier Trial Master. My only worry is that I'll get in nowhere Moab, which will break down with no parts available. Your Baha trip put me at ease on that point.
Best of luck with the surgery. Knee replacement surgery has come a long way in the last five years. You'll do great.
Progressing well at this point other than being a bit stir crazy and bored!
An excellent presentation of the Grenadier's winch setup! Absolutely helpful!
I am glad you found it useful.
A very well-executed video.
Cheers
Thanks for the review.... No way in hell my big and tall butt would buy that thing... It bent waaaaaay to much.. You should consider a sea eagle fast track 385.. No bend and I used to be substantially heavier at 370lb plus ... My fast track finally blew a seam, so I'm back in search mode for a newer kayak.
hahah-one must try but this one is definitely for a smaller person and it would have been helpful if they had talked about paddler weight instead of total boat capacity.
you’re obviously not scared of a litre or two of butter in a pan.
Nope, not really.
Where are you in Illinois? I am in Naperville. I would love your advice on buying a new winch for my Fieldmaster, I did not order the factory winch but have the auxiliary battery and overhead switches so ready to go. Just need to get a winch.
Howdy neighbor, we are over in Geneva. Buying a non-factory winch for the Grenadier is a bit tough at this point as I am not sure anyone makes a winch ready bumper, so I am not sure that I can be of much assistance. That being said I have to think these bumpers are on someones drawing board and will be available in the not too distant future.
Dick, that looks awesome. I really like how your grill fit right in. $600 USD is expensive, but you can tell it's a high-end product. The cutting board/knife combination is brilliant. It's going to last a while . A shelf under the main table would be nice. It would probably reduce lateral wobble and give more storage space.
Ya it is a neat piece of kit and super modular but does take up space. I am excited to get back on my feet and put it to the test!
Dick, good luck with the surgery, buddy. Sending you good vibes! You'll be running after like an Olympic sprinter.
Man, I like your optimism-but they only put in a regular knee, not the bionic one!
Looks like it will work out just fine. I am sure you will get good use out of it!
Snow peak is top of the line overland/camping gear but their price is also top of the line lol. Love their portable grill
No doubt they are a premium priced product. I have a good collection after all these years and, in most cases, I love the gear.
Great video!
nice video 📹👍thanks for sharing this 🎉❤👌
It’s Snow Peak…you know it’s going to be good!
Great review
Thanks for checking it out!
That is a pretty nice camp set up, Dick! Great review, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it!👍✌️
Could you tell me there’s any problems on grenadier? It was Just bad gas power?
Still awaiting the results from the dealership-it sounds like the engine not getting fuel but I have not heard the cause yet.
@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Thank you for your response. I hope it's not an engine issue.
@@pswkkk For sure, that would really ruin the day!
Just acquired the 10” frying pan from REI and a 12” bbq pan with removable handle from Costco ($15!). Both of them had well finished handles, so Oxo has fixed that issue.
I just picked up the grill pan at Costco as well but have not had the opportunity to use it yet but you are right, they have redesigned the handle and more comfortable now.
Good luck on the operation, Dick. See you when you get back on your feet. Stay safe and stay cool
This isn’t proving anything at all, any pan will cook evenly with that much oil, that oil pool is making me feel sick
A new cast iron skillet or carbon steel skillet can stick even when deep frying-which is why most manufacturers tell you to use more oil than you think you will need with a new pan. That is why I was so impressed with this one. Sorry you are sensitive to oil in a pan.
Season the pan, butter and flour it, heat the ring on high for 3 minutes. add the mix to the pan * leave the heat on high for 1 minute. Time this! If you turn the heat down too soon, the bread will be dry, and if you leave it too long, the bottom will burn. * After 1 minute, turn the heat down to medium. Let the bread bake for 3 minutes less than the time shown on the package for baking in an 8”x8′′ pan. Perfect every time no burning.
Once I am back in the saddle I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing your methodology.
What is the name on your flametamer and where can i find one :)
Ours is very old but you can find similar ones here on Amazon- amzn.to/3XfVmCi

Gotta say I am keeping up on the PT but it is no fun!
Oh dang, Dick! Sorry to hear about your knee!!! I'm sure you will make a full recovery, but it's going to take time. So, with that, I hope everything goes well and you're back at it in no time!👍🙏🙏🙏
I hear a diet full of green chilies really helps recovery!
Hope the surgery goes well brother. Also hoping for a speedy recovery.
I appreciate the good vibes.
Praying for a fast recovery 🙏
I will join you in that!
All the best.
