I was 28 and I went to a show on the nightbringers tour. They played the whole album. Immediately after the last song trevor said, “there you go fuckers, you’re welcome.” And until the day I die I’ll say thank you. The album I was waiting for by TBDM. Truly undefeated, I’m such a fan boy. Found them because of guitar, stayed for the poetry.
Learned to do this when I was 16 and heard Unhallowed for the first time in 2003 RIP Trev. Controlled chaos at his worst was still better than practiced structure at everyone else's best
My man coming in with the comment requests!! Thank you good sir, if I could suggest another it’s be Jonny davey from job for a cowboy, Bree Bree’s if you could. His lows are noiiice
This is actually one that David had already done 🤣 If you haven’t, check out David’s cover of “Embedded”! Definitely will do a 30 second voice lesson in the future! ruclips.net/video/rLF9uDez9yI/видео.html
Thanks for checking out our videos! We have a LOT of names on our list of artists that people want to see covered so it may take a while to get to the specific artist you're talking about. We appreciate your patience!
I think Wikipedia used to (maybe it still does) say that his high were fry, and lows false cord, not that that means it must be correct of course. To me it sounds right at least. I think those highs sound characteristically unique, and I love them for it. 😊
It’s possible. It’s also possible it’s a fry with residual false cord movement. The defining characteristic is that “tv static” high frequency that you get with the fry scream. Here David teaches them as fry because it would be the healthiest way for the majority of people to get close to the same tone. As always this series isn’t about what the vocalist is actually doing but a healthy way to achieve the same kind of tone/feel that can be replicated by most people!
They definitely sound false cord on Unhallowed and Miasma but since Nocturnal it sounds like fry especially since he does long runs without needed to take in addition air
Im thinking its more of a mix as you suggested. I discovered the technique when I was screaming to songs of Thy Art is Murders 1st EP Infinite Death. I think thats usually what vocalists are doing when you hear a high scream thats full and also sounds wet or has some extra thing to it.
@@MetalCoreHog131 Ive noticed a lot of vocalists have a similar progression. But that makes me think that maybe theyre doing a mix of sorts. Rings of Saturn's vocalist claims to not do frys and yet he has an insanely high scream.
With a proper technique, it's still difficult and requires a lot of power kinda like belting, but just like belting, you can minimize the strain with good technique
The problem is that my normal voice doesn't go high. It cuts out after mid range. Is there a way to do high pitched vocals with only having a mid-low range voice? 😅
We have an exceptionally long list of names we are working through! David has 200+ private students he’s balancing and we have to film content for our EVI Now program too so we don’t get to make other content that often! We are slowly working our way through the list though! Appreciate the patience! 😁
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute @Extreme Vocal Institute okay thanks mr. benites. I can still growl, but now I've lost my scream. I used to be pretty good at scream & growl inhale when I was in the band. but it's been 10 years I stopped. and no exercise. so, right now I want to focus on the scream exhale technique. I found it difficult.
Chances are you’re actually hearing the fact that there are always going to be lower frequencies in the distortion as well and that’s okay! In context you won’t notice it. A lot of people try to cut those sounds out by constricting and that’s when you can start to cause problems by creating unwanted friction and tensions. Here’s a video on high screams that may help you out though: ruclips.net/video/VwrhD8Ia_VM/видео.html

Most likely not! You can hear that sizzle that’s associated with the fry in his highs whereas the false cords make a lower rumbling sound. He may have some residual false cord movement happening but the base of the scream for the highs is fry!

This is difficult to watch, ever since Trevor Strnad passed away
Ahh yes. One of my favorite vocalists. My highs still sound like a cartoon goblin but ima keep at it. Thanks man

Mike from The Devil Wears Prada please it would help me out alot. Working on my first piece of music currently.
Risky place to start if you don't already have a solid vocal foundation
Easily one of the best vocalists and lyricists of all time. RIP beast.
This is fantastic
I always thought his high screams were false chord, but damn, you do make it seem like it's probably fry after all.
