    Thank you Ralfy as always for an honest and frank review, while not quite up there with the sublime 10yo review, we are glad you enjoyed. All of our whiskies have always been natural colour, but it was thanks to Ralfy review #813 our design team put it on the 'contract' that is the label. The few more years in casks certainly did develop the character despite being from the same batch as the 10. Now the youngest 'old' whisky we now have at Bladnoch is from 2009 so all 11yo+, but you are quite right that a young Bladnoch is a thing of beauty - so look out for a young age statement in the coming years. We do have some new NAS coming soon that has some younger whiskies - so perhaps not for all of the malt mates - but still 46.7% and non-chill filtered with natural colour and of course spirit driven. Cheers 🥃

      I think it's great that you explain your bottling decisions in the comments - that is what I call good PR!
      My recommendation is: Issue a spirit driven 8yo CS from good bourbon casks and people will line up to buy it! We always need good affordable Lowland malts.

    Had the opportunity to try both the 10 and 11 on a visit to the distillery last year. Both very nice but decided the 10 represented better value and went on to buy a bottle.
    Bladnoch are constrained at present by having to rely on old stock. It will be very interesting to see what they have to offer (and at what price!) once they're putting out their own distillate.
    The distillery is well worth a visit and the engagement with the comments on here is very impressive.
    I for one think the bottles look great!

      I like the shape of the bottle too. And what kind of argument is shape of the bottle anyway? Ralfy should stick to smell and taste and not delve into marketing and presentation. Fancy cork? • @kareliask

    Since they monitor youtube comments, I would like to mention that I like the bottle at least. While branding is not to everyone's tastes, it objectively succeeds at standing out and feeling different to your usual Scotch bottle, and if the whisky inside is good, a person will buy it anyway. It's the only "decanter" style Scotch bottle I've encountered that can truly be reused and has intrinsic value - Edradour's ones are engraved with writing that would contradict whatever is inside if the bottle is reused, wheras Bladnoch's one (at least for the 10) doesn't have anything embossed on it, making it great to reuse - I really appreciate that. That said, the bottle with the fancy silver plastic stopper that Ralfy criticised in another review I agree with, the plain black wooden stopper is best. Given its price and relative scarcity, it would appear that the distillery alienating people who dislike this style isn't harming its margins.
    Glad to hear the malt is still good, if different. I agree that I'd sooner have a 9yo than an even more expensive 11yo. I've seen the price of this shoot up from £40-45 to £55 or more for the 10, and this one will only go higher. This is the most worrying sign for me with Bladnoch at the moment.

    • @bladnochdistillery1619
      @bladnochdistillery1619 4 года назад +9

      Don't worry - more younger Bladnoch releases are on the way this year for under £50 🥃We have now limited our 11yo to 3000 cases per year worldwide as the 10yo demand has seriously depleted our limited stocks of these precious few barrels from before the distillery stopped production in 2009.

    • @kareliask
      @kareliask 4 года назад +6

      @@bladnochdistillery1619 Great to hear this information so directly! When dealing with such limited production runs I'm sympathetic to the need to price fairly, both to maintain availability to the customer, and also to ensure a profit to the enterprise. It's also fascinating to read actual production numbers, as this is something most distilleries either don't want to communicate, or are uninterested in doing so.
      I'm really looking forward to any lower vintage editions, a single-digit age statement is always better than an NAS (look at the people who are happy to buy an Ardbeg 5 for the same price as their 10 purely because it's something different - a 5 can be priced higher to cover the cost of undisclosed higher vintage content without having to go NAS, for example, and the disclosure of an age statement helps a lot - not that I am implying Ardbeg does this with their 5, but the model could work. Lagavulin's lower vintages are another example of people willing to pay a similar price for something younger if it's interesting enough, but that is an actual case of highway robbery with their pricing), and I'll be giving the 11 a try regardless as it's worth the money from my experience so far.
      I wish you continued success with the distillery, as it seems to be being taken care of rather well so far.

    If you don't mind buying from Amazon, the 10 is still available but overpriced at around £65 which is about the same as the 11 year old. The 10 is better but both are over priced for me when compared to Deanston 12, Clynelish 14 and even 15 year old Glen Scotia which are all under £50. You could also get 2 bottles of Arran 10 for less money which is a steal. Great info as always, cheers Ralfy!

    Bladnoch is in a right direction to attract real Scotch drinkers. Bottle is very heavy and once you grab the box you should be careful to grab it from bottom cause if you hold it from the top, box itself cannot really holds it.

      "incredibly tasty"..........I will tell everyone something - I tasted this whiskey over 2 weeks recently (Apr 2022) against many other whiskey's (get ready for it) ---> Glendronach 12, Gordan & McPhail 15yr Linkwood, Cragganmore 12, Cragganmore Distiller's Edition, Arran Cask Strength, Arran 10 (nice!), Glen Scotia Double Wood, Glen Scotia 15 yr, McCallan 18 Oak (excellent), Longmorn 16 (original bottling), Talisker 10 (what TF have they done to this dram?), Nikka From the Barrel, Old Pulteney (cant remember the bottle), Lark (can't remember the bottle), McCallan 12, Loch Lomond 12, Deanston 12 (my mate loved it as his daily), Kilchoman 12.........my mate had all these bottles in his collection, no sheet.....oh, I also tasted the Bladnoch 14.....what a privilege to be able to taste all these beautiful whiskeys.
      I can't honestly say the Bladnoch 11 was in top 3 for taste and impressiveness....McCallan 18 and Longmorn 16 being the other 2....the Longmorn was a work of art and the McCallan so good and smooth....once again, all the above whiskey's were good to great.
      I have nothing more to add.

      Some casks are ex BF but they are all purchased through a broker. A run like this will be a mix of casks from a range of bourbon distilleries. Not sure the character of any one bourbon would be prevalent enough to detect in the our single malt, but Old Forester is an interesting note - their 95 proof is especially good.

    Ralfy, I would like to suggest a malt mention from me for any of your upcoming videos: "Hi spirit dialecticians, debaters and dialectologists". Cheers from Ontario, Canada.

    Packaging like that belongs on gin bottles. Style over substance

      Hey now, I enjoy a good gin now and again to take a break from whisky. Gin drinkers are just as picky about the quality contents of the bottle as the fussiest of whisky fusspots. Cheers! 🤣🍸🥃

      @@AndyCigars Same, but a large amount of the cost of a bottle of "artisan" gin appears to go on the bottle and not the content.
      As my Scottish father in law says "you can buy a very good 12yo single malt for the cost of something that's been knocked up in an hour"
