I'm a Vietnam War vet, 1969, and this was sort of an anthem for us. CCR was very popular at the time and most of us thought they were from Louisiana. After all they sang Born on the Bayou and it all seemed so genuine. Imagine my surprise to discover they were all from the bay area around San Francisco.
Welcome Home Brother
Thanks for your service Michael. Welcome home.
thanks for being there... USN Vet 69-73 we were there.
Well for one, CCR is a genuine band. Also, they were anti-war.
Thank you for your service mate, can only imagine what you went through
Spent 18 months in Viet Nam ... this song spells it out pretty good.
Thank you for your service!
Thank you for your service,.Randy.
God Bless you, I am the son of a Vietnam Vet, nothing but respect for all of you. Peace....
Welcome Home Brother
Welcome home brother.
"We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, to kill the unfortunate, die for the ungrateful."
As a Vietnam Veteran the music is what kept us sane.
Thank You For Your Service.
Welcome Home Brother
The Doors The End.
I agree
This was so popular with the soldiers in Vietnam..so many guys I knew went to war so young...my heart broke for them and I wrote lots of letters. If you haven't listened to Born on the Bayou it's a must!!
@Penderyn 😂
@Penderyn It's okay. We're the good guys. 😉
I was born while my Dad was in Vietnam, he was in the Army he NEVER talked about it, it was taboo in my house growing up! When I got old enough I realized why!!! GOD Bless our Vietnam Vets and GOD bless you Dad..........
another poor country where yours army without a reason showed up and started killing people
Yeah, me too… my Dad was navy and wasn’t state side often. When he was, there wasn’t a night that I didn’t awake from his screaming
❤
wait if you were born while he was in vietnam ..... WAIT
My uncle was in ww2, the Korean War, but when it came to the Vietnam War. It was a no-no to talk about, so I respected his wishes.
I remember these days, this is a sad song to me.
"Feels like Vietnam." Always a good bet with Creedence Clearwater Revival. That war influenced a whole generation.
Also, when John Fogerty wrote this, a lot of people just assumed it was more about the Vietnam War, but it was his thoughts on America and the proliferation of guns. He said he was a hunter and he loved it, but he felt like people were really gun happy, there was a lack of control over the buying and selling of them. He believed it was dangerous. Imagine that!
Funny thing - the greatest gun violence is where guns are virtually or literally banned.
@@757optim Not much in the UK and Europe
@@757optim Uhm...maybe check real stats.
I'm a fan of CCR but I really wish musicians would leave politics out of their music, it get's old.
@@757optim Hey come to Europe over here and experience our gun violence
Can’t imagine what it would have been like to have to deal with. Gives me shivers.
The sad thing was that our boys that managed to survive and come back home did not come to a hero’s welcome. They were villainized as murderers and baby killers. My dad spent several tours there, and lost many friends. He never spoke of it. It was a very tumultuous time in the country for sure.
You know when someone has been in combat because they never talk about it, unless it's to other combat vets.
@@thomasperkins7318 Definitely
@@thomasperkins7318 My grandfather never talked about his involvement in WWII and he was just a repairman, not a soldier and definitely never in combat. I got the sense from my mom that he never talked about it while she was growing up, either. It could be because he mainly repaired guns and some of them likely went on to kill people, so he might've felt a little guilty or sick to his stomach over that. Perhaps anyone who served, even behind the lines, can potentially feel some responsibility and not want to talk about it.
yes they should have been treated well.does not matter which war it is these guys put their lives on the line so we could sit on our fat asses nice and comphy
well, we committed horrible war crimes in vietnam. we did horrendous shit to the people of vietnam. their treatment wasn't entirely unjustified.
This was one of the last songs my brother heard before catching the plane that sent him to Vietnam. He came home. It was a while before I could talk to him outside without his head on a swivel. This and "Fortunate One" affect to this day.
Lex's smile when Fogerty says "hoiyd", golden!
Yes, I kinda connect that type of pronounciation with Bugs Bunny, or is it Elmer Fudd? Is it a particular dialect? It just seems strange to me.
We all associate this with Vietnam (& for good reason) but John Fogerty said he actually wrote it about gun proliferation in this country. He read an article about the increasing number of guns & was so alarmed he wrote this song. It's really perfect for both subjects.☮💙
Lex is always so insightful in her comments. Amazing.
Another Great song. You really can't go wrong with Fogerty. The man could sing the crap out of anything.
How can you not Love CCR, one of the Great Bands in Rock n Roll! You feel like your in the Bayou when you Listen to their Music.
The VC figured out that if you killed one soldier that’s all you took away from the enemy….one soldier. But if you put punji sticks in the ground and a soldier stepped on it you could take out three of the enemy because one couldn’t walk and two would be carrying him.
Their music is so recognizable. Pure southern rock. And you are correct Lex. My brother was in Vietnam and the people they were helping looked exactly like the enemy. Then they came home & people spit on them for doing what they had no choice about. There was a draft in those days & you did what the government said, or you fled the country & were considered a criminal. Lots of music from the 60's & early 70's were about the war, even when the lyrics were 'sneaky' about it. Same for references to drugs.
Southern rock? They were from northern California.
@@mournblade1066 that doesn't change their music style. LOL Merle Haggard was born in California. Where you live does not designate your tastes or your talents.
Brad & Lex you'll love their "Up Around The Bend"& "Sweet Hitch-Hiker"!!!
This is one of my favorite by CCR. I love the laid back but restless vibe this song has. The harmonica playing out of step with the baseline is really cool!
My favorite CCR song. So many great memories of my dad, Vietnam F-4 Phantom pilot, turning me onto this band when I was around 10. RIP to a great MAN!!!
Love to see you both digging the groove!!
Stu Cook (Bass) and Doug Clifford (Drums) laying it down.
My father was going to America to join US Army for service to Vietnam but he met my mother and stayed at home in Ireland, he did see Combat as an Irish UN peacekeeper in the Congo in early 60s, he knows about the jungle.
So your mom probably saved your dad's life. Vietnam in those days was no place to be for anyone.
I rented a room from a disabled Vietnam vet when I was in college. All of his friends were vets too. It was messed up. Crazy man.
People think that this song was written about Vietnam but, it was in fact written about the proliferation of gun ownership in the country. Hence, the line, "200 million guns are loaded" One gun for every man, woman and child in the country, at that time.
CCR FOREVER !!👍👍🥰🥰🙇♂🙇♂
my dad and 2 of his brothers served during vietnam i have so much respect for vietnam vets them boys went threw hell even after the war many of them had there own battles to face
music has always helped to heal..during that war especially since 10 year wars were unheard of until then
The purpose of anti personnel mines as you mentioned, to mane, they also slow the unit down while caring for the wounded.
I love you guys, you are amazing as a duo. Love how you interact, so right on target.
Virtually all CCR music was recorded during the years of the Vietnam war.
Nearly every movie or documentary of the conflict has CCR music somewhere
with in the movie! It's nearly impossible for anyone over 50 to hear and not
think about the war or a movie about the war. Troubling times for the US but explosive for rock music!
My grandpa was in combat in Vietnam. This reflected the times
This came out during the height of the Vietnam war = It was representative of the growing anti-war mood growing in the country during the late 1960's against the Vietnam war and all war in general
Fun Fact: The record executives tried to sue John Fogerty for his song The Old Man Down The Road which is very very similar sounding to this song. However the case was dismissed by the court because John Fogerty wrote both songs... and you can't sue yourself...
I'm Glad my Dad Hide From the Draft after Graduation He literally lived under a bridge for 2 years homeless but he wasn't Fighting a Stupid WAR! He was a Hippy! Peace Love and happiness!
Thanks for playing this. My three brothers served in the Nam ,made it home but we're changed. Several others I knew who served also . I just missed the draft myself
It's ashame the way they were treated.
The song came out during the Vietnam war and the soldiers could hear it on armed forces radio networks out in the jungke
You should watch a Vietnam footage version of this....
This and Fortunate Son are my top CCR songs
I'm always amazed at how young soldiers are and were. Imagine being 18 y/o and being thrown into a war like Vietnam. Damn. Crazy. My grandfather fought in WW2. His B-24 was shot down over Germany and he spent a year and a half in POW camp, and still came home by the the time he was 23.
It seems that almost all of CCR's music is tied to 'Nam. Either written about or adopted by the soldiers who went. The War was a tangible part of everyday life after '67 or so. Every night on the news we saw people getting killed. (I think it was this common viewing of what war REALLY was that made it so unpopular. You'll notice that never again has the military allowed free access to press in combat situations.). We all knew people who were killed and even those who "came back fine" were affected. CCR is the sound track of 'Nam.
CCR proud Mary
Amazed that Lex caught the swamp vibe. Right on! ❤
VIETNAM IN THE FOREST - You got it Lex! I had this on my Walkman cassette player when I did my cross-country running, along with HOLD YOUR HEAD UP by Argent, among others.
I was 12 when this song came out and the war had been raging. I had 3 older, draft age brothers all subject to the draft and it worried the family sick. 2 oldest went to the National Guard (directed by father) and the third youngest pulled a high induction number as the war was winding down and dodged the bullet. Our family could have easily suffered a casualty.
The soldiers knew exactly what was happening in Vietnam. A bad time man. I wish I didnt remember it.
With everyone commenting on Vietnam, it would be nice if people threw in a little history and context, like the fact Ho Chi Minh was an ally during WW2 and a great admirer of both the United States as a country and our Constitution, and if we hadn't completely screwed them over and supported the French recolonizing following the war, our military involvement in Vietnam never would have happened.
You nailed it Lex; no mandatory draft. It didn't exist when I turned 18 but I still had to register with the Selective Service.
Well you are into the deep cuts now and they still don't disappoint! Lots more greatness and swampy songs to go.. right on reaction.. you got it..
This is definitely one of my favorite CCR songs 🔥🔥
I love u two. Genuine!!!!
Some of those lyric videos cut song short when there are no more words to display. Riff continues and song ends the same way it began.
Susie Q was great song scene in my favorite movie Apocalypse now..what a scene in the jungle ..lucky was only 10 when Vietnam happened..salute to all the soldiers who fought n died !
My bro in law was stationed in Nam Fung/Rose Garden Thailand. All jungle they watched from high in the trees called them Hootches they have some stories to share the call it the pass down book I’m proud to have known some of them
This was the first 45 that I got when i was like seven years old. The start of pretty nice 45 collection back. Wish I still had them.
Great...the voice are awesome...love C C R...
Love seeing you guys safe and home
Remember, CCR songs like these wasn't about high fiving soldiers and going off to war to kill. They wrote very anti-war songs and were against the gun nut culture here in America.
This is my favorite CCR song and the one I never understood they would not play on Batallion runs.
I can remember my parents telling me on my 18th birthday (1975) that I needed to be at the parish courthouse (I grew up in Louisiana) at 8 a.m. to register for the draft before I went to high school that day. They doubted me when I told them the postmaster had told me the draft had been canceled only a month earlier, since the "war" had been going on so long. The marines called me the next day to ask if I'd come to meet with them about serving in the military. Interesting times, indeed.
Traps are not meant to maim a person because it takes more resources to care for a wounded soldier than a dead one. War is a strange beast!!!
it was cut off is right. Great tune. Rock on Brad & Lex
Thank you for sharing this with me 😊
The Aussies backed the US & went to Vietnam also, do please check out Khe Sahn, official lyric video. It is one of Australia's pub anthems. ✌😄
I grew up listening to ccr loved there music. It was a party favorites among many other great music of the time.
There were a lot of miles and a lot of beer with CCR in my youth..... Weekends were spent dragging main and drinking beer.
1970 in vietnam was the first time i huead this song and it gave us all energy!
Stephen King has a novel called The Talisman co-written with Peter Straub. There is a Werewolf driving a big car in the night with high speed and he is listening in the car: Run through the Jungle by Credence Clearwater Revival. That would be a great scene if one day the novel becomes a movie.
CCR - try a deep cut - Tombstone Shadow. Hidden gem probably right up your alley.
CCR sweet hitchhiker
There 68, 69 proud to have served . AIRBORNE !
Love Love Love CCR !!!!
Vietnam had the best music. The war, of course, was terrible, as all wars are, but the art of the era was beautiful.
This song wasn't about Vietnam, but was adopted as a protest song.
Fortunate Son was a protest against the war
@@richardnelson2895 Check out The Circle Jerks cover of Fortunate Son if you like a little punk flavor.
Lex has rhe southern head bop going on real nice ... 🙂
My cousins friend stepped on a bomb and blew up in front of him. He was pockmarked with shrapnel. He lived through the war.
Flash forward to 2007 and he gets bone cancer caused by Agent Orange.
Great one to react to. Can't go wrong with CCR or Fogarty.
John Fogerty served in the war. He wasn't a front line guy but he was drafted and served as a supply clerk.
Lex, you are brilliant.
Lots of friends of mine fought there and some died. An uncle of mine led search and destroy squads when they went in the jungle and hunted Viet Cong. Another friend was a tunnel rate who went underground with a flashlight and a .45. Another was the last American killed there, Darwin Judge. Another coworker had a photo album in his locker full of pictures of dead bodies. Other came back OK, it seems. I missed the draft because they stopped calling the spring I turned 18. But I could have gone to college, which was a deferment. Poor kids, white and black, weren't so lucky.
I was in high school waiting on the inevitable when this song was released....different time.
it's strange to only listen to the first half of it after hearing it hundreds of times. but yeah popular with troops overseas popular back here. everybody knew what it meant but it also is just something new at the time by a popular band and people party to it, it was on in the background, it was just everywhere. another one that's really emotionally punching is called someday never comes. you should really check it out and then the other one that is probably one of their funniest songs but a total Banger is called, it came out of the sky.
CCR were awesome.
Always loved this song. If you haven’t checked out John Fogerty “The old man down the road” I think you would enjoy it
Lex always looks happy 👍
Another Great song by CCR is Fortunate Son. It is almost a protest against the Vietnam War.
The 200 million guns pt reminds of what revelation 16 talks about
The Viet Namese idea was to injure bad enough that it required two other soldiers to rescue the injured soldier taking 3 men off the battle field instead of just one.
This song was not about Vietnam. Although it sounds like it would be. It was Johns thoughts about to many guns in the US. The only place two hundred million guns were present was the US, but now it is more like three hundred million.
I know that in revelation china will have a 200 million army
CCR is the Viet Nam war soundtrack.
Their best song 👌
The video really tells the story.
It was written about The Thet Offensive in Vietnam. Look it up.
I ALWAYS PLAY THIS SONG FULL BORE
If these two ever start movie reactions. They need to do" We We're Soldiers'
yes they need to do movie reactions for sure
Crappy war movie. Try Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Born On The 4th Of July, Platoon & Full Metal Jacket instead.
@@chetcarman3530 dude you must have never seen war or know anything about history to make such a stupid statement.
Tune 👍 all the very best USA
God CCR is so good.
Fogerty and Clifford of CCR are Vietnam Veterans
You ain't going to hear no music in a swamp boat, it's loud.
Sometime I wonder if Brad has his Earphones plugged in.
Vietnam had a big influence on CCR's music
The purpose of the booby trap is to wound one man so that two men have to help him. Takes three men out of action. Love your reactions...
