Morning Patrick. Marsden is my absolute favourite place to walk. Your original 2015 Marsden walk was how I started watching your channel. Thanks for sharing Patrick, I will be walking this route this weekend👍🏻
The shot of the reservoir in the distance between the valley was so picturesque. You really do know how to get some great shots of the scenery. I think for a bank holiday you did quite well avoiding crowds. I recall your walk around Marsden, it was a lovely place. I don't think those steps were steep enough though 😁 Some great reservoirs but always some tragedy has occurred. It's amazing in the pennines just how many have been killed in flooding. The Heather and ferns up there were a beautiful colour too. Glad your hat kept on your head on the hillside. Interesting trigg point too. Thank you as always Patrick. Really enjoyable
The scenery was fab wasn't it. There were quite a few walkers around if I recall, but I try as much as possible not to film other people. I'm so glad I didn't need to go down those steps! 😁 Yes the reservoirs often hold some tragic history and there are lots in the Pennines. I'm glad I got here whilst the heather was still purple, looked great. I sure needed to strap my hat on at the top of Pule Hill! 😀 Thanks as always Kelly for watching and commenting 👍
Great vid again Patrick . Un known Territory for us . Not able so glad you took us.. glad you put yr strap on yr hat or it would have gone over the hills and far away. Lovely watch at teatime. Thankyou Patrick lv Ali/R x
Hi Patrick, Thank you again for another wonderful walk, the scenery was breath taking down the valley, it looked very muddy in places and uneven to walk, so pleased you managed to stay on your feet. thank you again regards Dave & Jean.
Morning Dave and Jean, glad you enjoyed this walk. I loved the scenery in this one too, especially with all those reservoirs. It was very uneven in places, so you just have to take a bit more care there. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Wonderful walking around that area Patrick...i love Marsden...so many great routes in all directions...Always been windy on my visits up onto Pule hill.....
Another beautiful hike, Patrick. I remember your recent Wesserden hike as I want to do a variation on it. It is nice that you don't have to hike to Peaks all the time to get beautiful views. I've really enjoyed it. It's nice that hills are marked with stone placements to show a top where there is no trig. It is sad to hear about the Black Flood. I wonder how many people were never found and their resting place is just in the valley. Thank you so much for sharing, Patrick.
Thanks Chris, there's lots to see in the Wessendey Valley, and I still missed a few things here. Those Marsden Moor posts are all over the place around there, btu it was interesting to find one acting as a trig point on Pule Hill. I've come across several reservoirs of late with sad histories. I'm sure lots of people were never accounted for in the valley. Thanks for watching Chris and for all your great comments. All the best 👍
Another Fantastic Walk Patrick....I Do Love Walking By Water Be It Reservoirs Rivers Or Canals...And The Views At The End Were Stunning So Thank You For This ....Regards - Frank & Lee....
Glad you enjoyed it Shaun. I try not to film other people on my walks, so many of them will appear quieter than they actually are. Thanks for watching 👍
My neck of the woods. Another good walk. South pennines worth exploring for sure. Delph and Denshaw. A nice cafe stop called Cavallo Coffee Box mid way through the walk 😊
I never tire of re-visiting my childhood playground. We would walk up from Diggle and play all over these moors, including swimming from the sandy beach at Blackmoss. I think you missed the waterfall you didn't see on your Wessenden walk, but it was probably nothing more than a trickle in August. Thanks for a lovely film Patrick.
This is a lovely childhood playground for you Michael. I did miss that waterfall which I knew I would as it was slightly out of my way on this route. It was a great route all the same. Thanks for watching and for your support 👍
Another great walk up in the northern parts Patrick. I am really going to have to get myself up there in the near future. I'd love to do the Pennine Way one day!
Yet another fine walk Patrick. From the top of Pule hill you can see the 600ft deep ventilation shafts of the 3 mile Standage runnel between Diggle and Marsden on the trans pennine railway line between Manchester and Leeds.
This is a real great moorland walk Patrick. That way marking post stone with the inscription looks to be fairly old, I would say. The flagged path looks good to walk on rather than crossing boggy ground - that was a real good job done there! The reservoirs that supply both the canal and the public water supply seemed to be pretty well topped up. That Butterley Spillway looks very impressive, indeed. Pule Hill has some fantastic views from it, then there are those fantastic rock formations around that area. Most excellent walk, Patrick, and many thanks for this video production.
Cheers Ffranc. There are lots of moorland paths, especially where the Pennine Way goes, that are flagged now, so definitely a good job. The spillway looks great doesn't it and the views from Pule Hill were amazing. Glad you enjoyed it Ffranc, thanks as always for watching and commenting 👍
ALWAYS windy up Pule hill, its a good walk you done there. There is a flooded shaft you may have passed....Martin Zero put a go pro down that shaft, oh my a bit scarey. It is meant to be fenced off but last time i was up there with my dogs a chunk of fence was down 😮. 🐾🐾🐾😊
another great walk Patrick done this area for years glad you liked the walk ,have you tried castleshaw upper res ,and lower res and castleshaw moor not far from your walk near pule hill. Thanks for todays walk
Once again we have walked similar places from Bruncliff and Butterley Reservoirs (good shots there). Black Moss we had lunch break nearn Swellands Reservoir on Wessendale Valley Walk. All lovely areas to walk.I liked the routes you followed. Its good to introduce this area in repertoire of locations. Liked the combination of synths with piano arpeggios.
Thanks Shanita. I remember your video of the Wessenden Valley. As you know this is a beautiful walk, a new one for me which made it more appealing too. My score here was a variation on the theme I created for my earlier Wessenden film. Thanks for your great comments and for taking the time to watch 👍
Another enjoyable walk , thanks Patrick.Did you spot any Civil War connections on the walk. There was a Battle of Marston Moor during the English Civil war.
great video pat,i,ve been all around that area apart from black moss and swellands, but now i have my bearings as to how far they are from brun clough i will visit in the near future, cheers pat.
Thanks for watching and commenting Ken. I guessed you'd probably be familiar with this area, hope you get to Black Moss and Swellands soon. All the best 👍
This was a fantastic reservoir tour Patrick. I watched end to end before my walk out in the Beacons today. I liked the names of some of them - Black Moss Reservoir. I wonder what that's about? Do we get black moss? A rad windy out but thrilling and beautiful none the less. Did you see anyone? It felt like you never. Well, good going - not sure it would be the same up there right now. Wet wet out. All the best. Mark
Thanks Mark, there sure were a load of reservoirs on this route. Black Moss is puzzling isn't it. I wonder if it originates from the peat bogs, but I must admit I've never seen moss that is actually black 😁 I did see quite a few people on this walk from what I recall, but I try my best not to film others when I'm out. It'll be a wet one out there now indeed, rain, rain and more rain! 😂 Have a great walk out on the Beacons Mark, well I know you will. All the best 👍
@@solitaryrambler Yeah, loads of reservoirs and odd names Patrick. I think it might have a peat link. Ha ha, the people have been edited out. Would be cool if we could do that in life. Yeah, more rain - I did have a great walk yesterday but my camera and me got a soaking - all good. Take care and have a great week.
Patrick, your video convinced me to stay in marsden on my next year trip, had very nice walk 3 weeks ago, matlock to matlock bath on a rainy day , a tesco chicken sarnie, sarnies not too bad from tesco, watch the date.Eat a cod at 3 fish and chip shops in bath, kostta was best, no chips. Do you change your hiking boots depending on the terrain?looking forward to your future videos.
Hope you enjoy your stay in Marsden next year Steven. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Matlock. I only have one pair of hiking boots. Thanks for watching 👍
@@solitaryramblerHi Patrick. Thanks for the reply. What do the tunnels do below? Do they carry water and the vertical air pipes enable the water to flow without creating a vacuum? I find this sort of thing interesting.
Hi Patrick. Another stunning walk yet again. You really do have some lovely views. Have a lovely weekend and thanks for sharing. 😊👍📹
Many thanks as always Cath, glad you liked it. Have a lovely weekend too 👍
