Same here from NZ too. Around 70 to 72 my Mum had wonderful taste in music. I used to play all her records. This gem was on a Solid Gold Hits album (No 1 i think) and i loved this. No2 and 3 were great too.

Thank you! I am 53 years old, and my childhood consisted entirely of listening to Al Martino albums on the "hi-fi"- before school, after school, the weekends. My mom was a tremendous fan.I knew the lyrics as well as she did :)
I was nine years old when this song came out. I was missing my classmates. My aunt had died in a car accident a year before this song came out. This song is unforgettable, as is Rejoice’s 1969 song “November Snow,” another tune about a tragic event (a baby dying in the case of the latter song).
This song is heart wrenching . My friend was killed in an accident. The day I got the awful news this song was playing . I felt as if I was going to burst with the grief.
