I'll be honest, at first it's hard to understand what she is actually talking about, except for two points stated hyperbolically which are obvious to everyone, and all of us share. Very few people are full of compassion except for brief moments or short periods of time. To turn growth into a formula for dialogue seems to me a reduction that is not particularly useful. But then watching her dialogue with each person gives a pattern to follow for self exploration and growing. Nice exercise. Seriously.

Going to sound corny but when I see these prisoners share their personal stories.. I just fall in love with all of them!!!
I just want to lift them up and heal their wounds and show them that they are so capable of love and being the love they are.
Humans are so amazing and heartbreaking and adorable.
Watching them taste just a little drop of what truly matters and how how starving they are to know love, just makes we want to do what she does.
If only there was a place for humans to get a quick and through dose of self-understanding and love... That technology may come someday?
Self destruction is such a painful path especially if we have been taught it from the beginning.. Yet each of them has their unique path...
I could see how it might be difficult for some of them to hit this work when the cycle of victimhood has been such a part of every day existence.
Yet the beautiful thing about Katie is she knows exactly how far she can take each one of them towards meeting their personal truth.
Her work is embedded into my daily existence and watching these beautiful men tell their stories quickly opens my heart wide open.
Give her work a chance if you are a hardcore resistant-to-life person... like I often can be... Wanting the world to be different than it is..
I would likely have left the planet years ago if it were not for finding her and her work, and so glad to be here.
The beauty and depth of "the work" discovered ***her*** and she now shares this unconditional tough-love with the world selflessly.
I will forever cherish all the ways this process has touched my life and always fascinated by how beautiful people are at their core.
1000% responsibility is never easy and takes willingness, courage and strength, but the payoff is priceless beyond words.
I can't help but fall in love with all of them such beautiful humans..
Her work is way ahead of it's time, yet needed more than ever these days. : ) Perhaps someday humans will finally get it?
PEACE on earth, goodwill be done... towards all life, someday, somehow, someway...amen

I think people abused more and past the abuse on when they don't question their own thoughts.
This is a lesson in taking responsibility for our own thoughts.
It doesn't mean that we were not abused, it just means we are looking at how we make thoughts up that Hold Us in a prison.
When we begin to do the turn around and find reasons to not be stuck in the prison then we can find reasons to make our own life better and not pass that abuse on.

    1. Is it true?YES!
    2. Can you absolutely know its true? No...
    3. How do you feel about that thought?
    4. Who would you be without that thought?

I am not compassionate at the moment that I'm judging others

Perhaps the qualifier "adequately " should be used. We can attempt description of things that we know lie beyond language. Anyone who has had a NDE, a lucid or vivid dream, or a trip will experience things that they just can't English. But we try. It's a shame to condemn a person for their (necessarily inadequate) efforts.

at around 17:22 this is a massive paradigm shift - that in this particular case the subject seems to agree with. and in this case alot of insights and revelations come forth. can anyone who has a good grasp of her techniques please comment on a different scenario? say the person who was traumatized by an older person who had authority over them, such as someone held captive and then abused by their mean-spirited captives. is there any value in this type of therapy for a situation such as that? where the victim truly had no influence one way or another as to what horrible things that were inflicted to them... or is there a better, or different, paradigm that a victim can use here to help heal from such a wound. if the victims statement was 'i resent my abusive tormentors for the pain they inflicted to me', how could that ever be turned around to any other type of a statement that could ever give such a victim a different more healthy perspective on such a traumatic situation? Any insights would be very welcome, as I am trying to learn more about how to help heal the pains of victims. Not professionally but in the role of being a good friend.

Byron Katie is not saying that abuse didn't happen. The questions just help us to explore our beliefs and judgements so that we can find peace. It is a way to think about more than our fixed beliefs as we become aware that 1) we only see our one-sided perspective, 2) our imaginations mostly don't reflect reality, 3) abusers are dealing with their own problems and beliefs, and 4) mentally we often are our own tormentors.
