Truly the greatest generation. Soldiers that served the country and gave their lives because they believe in freedom. They didn't care about politics. They didn't care about how the nightly news chose to divide us. They knew that freedom was something worth fighting for; dying for if necessary.
If only we could find leaders that are as selfless as all those soldiers. Funny how we have armies full of young men ready to give everything they have for the cause... yet the ones giving the orders at the top are corrupted spoilt plump little men.

Rudy Oliveira Yea I initially teared up. But as I thought about it more as I wrote a comment I cried. Those men went out there and gave their lives. Yet when he got back he had literally no one. No family waiting. I understand that it must have been hard for her if she had 5 kids and her husband left. But no one fostered/adopted him. Well he may have been fostered but no one stuck around in his life to see how he got on at school. It’s sad isn’t it.
They will and will always be the greatest generation. They gave there life to stop the advance of the axis powers and I salute all of those men. God bless all of you.
@@Kisch-gx8zz Was it not our war when Japan decided to drown over 2,000 soldiers in Pearl Harbor? Perhaps when an entire culture of people (all around the world) were persecuted and burned, was it still not our war then? It was our war as much as it was the rest of the Allied powers. Amazing to hear these WW2 veterans share their stories. They dont tend to like to talk about it, I think it's a combination of a generational thing and not wanting to relive the horrors of war. Even after my father got back from serving in Vietnam, his father never said anything about his servive in WW2. It'd be nice to know what my grandfather went through but knowing how brutal things were in the Phillipines I completely understand why he wouldn't want to relive those experiences.
@throw away Not called Green Berets until 1963 when JFK commented on the headgear worn during a demonstration of special forces that was given to him. The special forces existed in the early 50's and onward stemming from the OSS of WW2. So yes, technically by name they didn't exist, but in actuality they did. So it is entirely possible that his great grandpa could have been a paratrooper in WW2 and then a Green Beret in the 50's early 60's. An 18 year old paratrooper in 1944 and a 38 year old Green Beret in 1964. That or his great grandpa was in the special forces before they were given the nickname Green Berets. Either way the math works out age wise. From an "Cold War" Airborne Ranger.
My Scottish Grandfather Fought in WW2 He Was on a Ship Firing Shells off at Germany His Boat was Sunken So He Spent Most of The War in The Hospital. Sadly I Never Met Him He Died of a Heart attack in The 1980s
He said he was a paratrooper and a green barret, meaning he probably went on to become a green barret later around the time they were founded in 1952, but was a paratrooper during the war.
As a vet myself, I have spoken with older vets as well. And some of the stories that are told, you learn more then you think you knew. Some of us will never talk about what we did, or why. hi there Thats honestly really sad, to realize the first people to see tanks or planes in combat, the men who experience horrific conditions like never seen before, are all gone... WW1 changed the word ALOT, from the fall of monarchies, to the rise soviets, to the cause of modern issues in the middle east. It must be crazy, to have lived during a time when people didnt have cars and used lamps for most light, to now where we have gone to space and have small handheld computers. We must remember what they did for us (even the enemy).
My grandfather transported troops in a truck around Normandy. His story's are amazing. The things he saw bring a tear to your eye. He passed away 4 years ago... thank you Sir for your service! thank you.
This film is absolutely beautiful. Perfect. My upmost respect to the filmmakers, and of course, to Les himself for his heroic part in liberating Europe from underneath the jackboot of fascism. Let his life and his words be a truly inspiring example of the personal responsibility each of us have the opportunity to rise to in this life, particularly in the western world, of which so many seem to be ashamed of these days. In this man's day, pathological ideology had to be literally fought to the death. But now, the battleground is in each of us; in our perceptions, our way of thinking and perceiving the world. We must be fastidiously aware of that in ourselves which is nihilistic & resentful, of that which bears resemblance to Cain; of that which blames and harbours vengeance upon being, and thus each other. Let us move toward that in ourselves which is embodied by men such as Les, and that is courage, truth, responsibility and gratitude. It's not often I literally salute someone, but I did at the end of this film. Thank you, to those who lay their lives upon the alter of freedom. God bless you, for you have blessed being itself with your courage.
I am an Australian ex infantry solider and i would like to say thank you for your service and due to your selfless act and sacrifice to fight and defend against evil that gave me the chance and to serve my country with pride. Had me teared up a beautiful story
My great grandfather fought in WW2. He is still alive today at 95 years old. He tells me endless stories of what he’s seen and been through, shows me medals. Makes me tear up everytime.
"A question was asked to me, What do I think of my country, and what does it mean to be free? I think the American citizen should be a responsible person. To his family 1st, to his community, and then to his country. There is no real freedom in a sense, we're all obligated to something, or somebody. " -Les Cruise, 92, 82nd Airborn. One of the last surviving paratroopers from D-Day.
A great sacrifice of you sir. Well done at joining the legendary 82nd 'All American' division. You deserve to live this long. All my respect to you sir.Respect for helping our country, Poland
Im both french from father and british from mother, and my great grand father was in the 6th airborn division as a paratrooper on d day. His plane got shot down before they could evacuate, and i wish i could have gotten the chance to meet him once... But i am so proud of him, and all who fought for us during ww2 !
Everytime I see a veteran I always thank them for their service IDC if they served even as a cook I thank them because without them our military wouldn't had food, transportation, water, organization, cleaniness, etc. I enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps I can't wait to get to bootcamp and serving this country is an honor 🇺🇸
Thank you sir. May we never forget the suffering and sacrifice you and your fellow soldiers made to give us our freedom we enjoy today, THANK YOU AGAIN SIR
My brother served the army once and was drafted to Afghanistan to an outpost near taliban mountains. He said to me, "in war, you rarely think of coming back to see your family than thinking you'll be in a box someday under the dirt. Whether you're safe in your camp or up on the mountains bearing a scope, death will always look you in the eye with a black lined cross on your forehead".
I think none expected to survive the jump and subsequent combat. But..they did..thank God. WW@ was truly good vs. evil and good won thanks to men like this. Today...we could not fight another such war. Sadly too many snowflakes.
They were all hero’s not just him even all the people who died on D-day not knowing what was going on were hero’s. They gave their life for what they believed was true and the women. The women staying in the country producing steel and supporting the men fighting for freedom.
This right here is why we stand an salute the colors and the National Anthem. Instead of concentrating on what's wrong with this country, allow those few minutes to pass by and concentrate on what's right. You have the rest of your day to fix the things that are wrong. Because of men like this, you can protest just about anything to want. Take a break and give them thanks by simply giving them a couple minutes of respect. "Gary Owen"
William Payton I sincerely understand your argument and you have made me think twice about this issue. What I don't quite understand though is why people see the national anthem as specifically associated with the military. Isn't it about the country as a whole? I would understand the hostility toward the protests better if they were happening at an event specifically honoring veterans or the military, but I don't see what doing it at a football game has to do with any of that. What are your thoughts? Honestly interested in your point of view.
It’s sad knowing that this is the last generation these brave men will be alive. We’re the first cowardly generation, and that won’t be good in war. Greatest respects.

Amen
May all that died fighting for our country rest in peace 😔

There were no women soldiers in WW2. At least, not from America.

It's kind of sad that these heroes are dying and a good part of the younger generation doesn't thank them
I'm 18 and I thank them. I know what they have done for us
Because time moves on and so the emotional connection between newer generations and war veterans of the past, they're usually thanking the newer ones.
But its still good that some people care like theyre grandchildren or others that are still spreading the storys
Megabenjamin that doesn’t mean all of them :)
That ending 😢 much respect.
That made me cry God Bless you sir
Powerful video
Robert Nixon Weed in holland is powerful too

Big respect for you, veteran.
By the way, admit that he paints better than anybody here in the comment section...
Thank you for your service. Salutes.
What a wonderful human being The salt of the earth, I shed tears with you sir and I'm deeply humbled, God bless you Sir
Respect to all veterans thank you for liberating Europe may God bless you and the USA. Hello from France
These guys are the original badasses. I can't imagine the thought process in that moment.
I think none expected to survive the jump and subsequent combat. But..they did..thank God. WW@ was truly good vs. evil and good won thanks to men like this. Today...we could not fight another such war. Sadly too many snowflakes.
@@po2313 Good vs Evil? It was country vs country. But I agree we now have soyboys and tomboys.
THE GREATEST GENERATION. Thank you so much for all you have done for this country
im not an american but i think this movie is what they called "very touching dem feelings".
So what are you? Do you live in this country.??
Kewl
A true hero..
They were all hero’s not just him even all the people who died on D-day not knowing what was going on were hero’s. They gave their life for what they believed was true and the women. The women staying in the country producing steel and supporting the men fighting for freedom.
A true hero. Thankyou so much for your service and sacrifice
"Gary Owen"
William Payton amen
William Payton Roger that Sir! Well said! 🇺🇸💪🇺🇸
William Payton this is exactly why we have a national anthem to honour our protectors and those who have died fighting for our country
War isn't right
William Payton I sincerely understand your argument and you have made me think twice about this issue.
Upmost respect for you sir.
Respect to all soldiers of WW2
Best generation ever lived
WOW, Tears
True respect!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fantastic Story. I am so proud of this gentleman and all his fellow veterans. may God Bless them all.
Magnificent story narrated by a hero.
Thank you for your service! I live in Holland and I’m very thankful that I can enjoy my freedom here in the Netherlands❤️
Such a heartwarming and heartfelt video. A true testament to the Greatest Generation.
It’s sad knowing that this is the last generation these brave men will be alive. We’re the first cowardly generation, and that won’t be good in war. Greatest respects.
You realize the reason so many from that generation died was because they were scared right? Don’t call us snowflakes
Do you want another war? I don't thinks so.
Our schools need to stop teaching us to watch what we say and do because it might offend someone. £5 that someone will get offended by that
DocDum you’re a snowflake and so ignorant. How could you possibly agree with any liberal ideologies?
Edifice of Equilibrium Comrade.
God bless you and thank you for your service ❤️
Just, thank you. God bless you!
