The funniest part is he can't control how his body adapts. From what I remember there's a comic where he jumps off a cliff wanting to gain the ability to fly but instead he just turns into slime or something and harmlessly falls to the ground. Something like that.

Should have had him survive, have Shaw be legitimately impressed by it and ironically congratulate him and then say “Azrael, put him on ice.” Azrael grabs him and teleports him. When he returns a second later (covered in a dusting of snow) and they ask what he’s done Shaw tells them that Darwin’s “cooling off somewhere in Antarctica. Alive no doubt but alone with no idea where he is and no idea where to go he may soon wish he wasn’t.”

@@Punisher0362 to my understanding his power is to adapt to survive, so his body would adapt to the 2 life threatening problems there. The cold and lack of food because you can't say Antarctica lacks water. So he'd be alive but I don't see teleportation being the first adaptation his body makes unless he tries to get eaten by an orca or something or he goes insane with isolation and possibly not with control over where he ends up either. Either way he's out of the way for long enough so as to not pose a threat.
I love that when he came up against world breaker hulk. His body tried to absorb gamma radiation, then said "f*ck this sh*t I'm out" and literally teleported him outta there haha.

Okay the only choice is to bail and survive the longest as we witness the world being destroyed. Cause he cannot destroy that hulk nor stop him in any way and that Hulk can potentially destroy everything, including universe so his only solution should be to be on hulk's side, yes? Hulk in MCU is nerfed and they try to balance heroes out which is a joke because Marvel from the very beginning was about all kinds of scales of heroes. Personally I hate the cosmic scale and beyond. Street to global is best scale. Where sometimes global heroes like avengers have to fight off threat from another dimension or cosmic threat like galactus, thanos. This is wht spider man and daredevil are so popular because it is just more fun. Iron-Man was imo best balance, one day fights aliens, the next day some human hunts him for revenge. Iron-Man having to fight magical enemies is so good because he has barely any counter to that and some low magical criminals can be tough nuts. Kind of sucks how Mandarin was fake. I would love Iron-Man vs Dr doom too but yeah RDJ is out and doom is served for fantastic four and avengers. Iron-Man deserved a trilogy with Mandarin haunting him but sadly it was all set up for Thanos from the beginning and this is also why MCU sucks after Thanos. They had 0 set up for the next phase other than some easter eggs in Infinity War and Endgame

It's honestly such a brilliant and very comic book way of showing just how powerful Hulk is at that point, where literally the only possible adaptation that could exist in the universe to counteract a Hulk attack is to be on the other side of the planet to where he's punching.

Completely agree. He only got killed in such a dumb way because the writers weren’t good enough to deal with his real powers so they just got rid of him in a stupid way. He should have been the second or third protagonist at least. But they just wanted the people who would see the trailers and think “oh I like Darwin. If I recall correctly, because darwin doesnt have control of his powers it generally takes the easiest way out based on his needs. At first he needed to stop hulk so he evolved to absorb gamma. He then needed to survive another hit from hulk. the easiest way to survive another hit from hulk is to just not be there anymore.

I had to rewatch the film because I couldn’t process how Shaw killed Darwin. There were so many different ways that scene could have gone and they picked the one with the least sense.
I just hope Darwins body is regenerating somewhere that his ability teleported him to knowing it would be a safe space to do so... but its been so long... poor Darwin. Nerfed into oblivion...

Angel Salvador gets to live through the movie... but not the mutant whose power is literally "creative/adaptive not dying", no he fucking dies. The freaking fly woman lives! What has never made sense to me is that Darwin's powers turned him to stone/scaled him up to survive Havok's blast when Shaw was the target; but it can't somehow vent the energy or erase his mouth before Shaw can stuff the energy inside?! There were tons of options from the second Shaw blocked his punch. That is some bullshit right there! What pisses me off even more is that a large number of the mutants who survived First Class are killed off screen in the next freaking movie! Adaptive Evolution/Reactive Evolution is one of the most underused powers I can think of; the potential is so rarely capitalized on! Darwin, Lifeguard, Doomsday; they get reduced down to the absolute minimum of what they're possibly capable of.

I'm not saying Shaw couldn't DEFEAT Darwin, I'm saying that Shaw KILLING Darwin makes no sense in terms of power in general. Especially since the power Shaw is using to kill him is one he shrugged off moments before! The scene and death were horribly written. The only way it makes sense is if his whole vanishing act was his body becoming energy or something, but the movie never tries to explain anything other than: "Well, he dead!" Also; this version of Sebastian Shaw absorbs, stockpiles, and releases energy, he doesn't reflect it like a mirror would to a beam from a flashlight.
Hmm last thing I saw was a light energy coming out of Darwins body and then physial exhausted body crumbling. Remember, there is a soul inside. And i can recall Darwin has gone bodyless before. And then over time regrow a physical body. Shaw had to think that Darwin was dead to keep him safe. Dont you think?

Darwin deserved so much better I was actually surprised when they killed him but it also ruined the movie for me cause I couldn't get past the "He'd totally survive that" thoughts and how many ways his body could adapt to survive it
Darwin does deserve more respect, but I will always love his moment in World War Hulk. The man that has the power to adapt to overcome any threats to his life, when faced against this monster of focused rage and enormous power... Gains the ability to teleport very far away.

Totally a MCU insider here. His body decided that the only way to survive was to exit the universe altogether. He will now appear in the MCU at a post credit scene for sure.
I love this character too but unfortunatly he would be the rapresentation of how broken some characters are in the comics. In a film I am afraid someone like him could simply create an escalation of stronger and stronger characters, making secondary characters pretty much useless... maybe, that's just my idea
5:01 except that exact thing has worked on the Hulk before when the Hulk attacked the Silver Surfer who treated the Hulk like a gnat and didn’t even really bother to fight him. The Surfer drained Hulk of the gamma radiation and Hulk became Banner. Hulk was just as limitless then.

You know, with all this multiverse stuff happening and the X-Men universe being folded into the MCU, it would be amazing if Darwin somehow came back, played by the same actor and redeemed the character in Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. Probably won't happen, but very well could.
So this will probably never happen but imagine he was able to come back by literally being a clone of Kang with the powers and all. That would be pretty cool to just suddenly go "Oh shit they have a kang alike on their side now with his knowledge and everything."

Hello! I'm one of the few who had read the script and revised it before First Class got released. I wanted to let you know that the reason why he got killed off is not because of skin color but rather it is because of his ability and the actor's personal reasons. Initially, he wasn't supposed to die as there were many revisions of the scripts and none of them had his character killed. It was a little bit later on that they had to make a last second decision to kill him off because of few reasons and one of which is that he is too overpowered compared to the other mutants - secondly, the actor was having health complications at that time and couldn't commit to the role fully hence why he had to resign the contract early on. This led to the writers and even the director to fully finalize the decision of removing him on screen (killing him off). Even though I was just a revisionist, I was invited to a few shooting and behind the scenes so I was a little bit updated as to what is happening. We weren't allowed to talk about what was going on but it's safe to talk about it now as the movie has already been out for a few years.
As cool as his power is, we have to admit he's definitely a character better suited for pages of a comic than a movie screen. In a movie he literally becomes God and nothing would prove interesting to watch in the time frame of a movie because he would adapt to everything the villians could throw at him. It's like having an invincibility code in a video game. It's fun at first, but without any real threat of danger it gets boring fairly quickly.
I mean they can make it work. There's no limit to what his powers do but they don't always work in his favor. Imagine if they make him more of a puzzle piece that the rest has to figure out how to use it. Of course in the current state of MCU, I'm afraid they would turn him into a joke character than an actual member.
There are limits to his powers. When he fought the Hulk, instead he developed gamma siphoning poweres, when that didn't work his powers teleported off the battlefield. Because the best way to fight the Hulk, is to not fight the Hulk

Research what Charles Darwin said about blacks, it make this situation 100x more ironic considering they obviously modeled the character to Darwin's statement about blacks. It would be cool if he actually just "playing dead" and his molecular structure creates a devastating appearance to trick his opponent to think he's dead
I understand why the got rid of him. In comics you can justifiably have world cracking heroes and baddies that make him just another guy in the long run, but in almost any other media his power would just be ridiculed as distilled essence of plot convenience.

The fox movies were dumb, in all the series was fine, Logan and Deadpool are great, X1 and X2 were above average as films, First Class and DOFP were neat and the rest just, blah, I hope the MCU does a better job

Hi. I've spent a good deal of my life pursuing a medical career. However, I really, REALLY like comics! I subscribed. I was sorry to see Darwin get nerfed in the movie also. I followed his story in Uncanny X-Men, when Storm lost her powers, spotted a Mohawk and became leader of the Morlocks; good ole 80s!😅
I never noticed the detail of when shang chi is leading the mandarin with grapple parry, its identical to the same part when the mandarin fought Shang chis mother! Powerful cinematography!

Ok, first of all, Shaw usually only absorbs kinetic energy as it's the easiest to absorb, so he can absorb Havok's plasma energy, BUT he cannot redirect energy that he has absorbed, he uses said energy to enhance his strength, speed and durability. Even though it is stated in Marvel wiki that Shaw has a secondary mutation, where he can redirect energy that he absorbs, he can't do what was depicted in the movie, he usually fires off energy bolts from his hands, not little balls of energy. One time Storm and Nightcrawler almost kicked his ass by Storm lowering the ambient temperature all around him and Nightcrawler just juggled him with his feet, it almost worked, but Shaw was able to grab Nightcrawler's ankle, then he punched him in the stomach as hard as he could, and then he threw him at Storm, rendering them both unconscious.
I remember my parent's being awfully disappointed when Darwin didn't make it to the final act. He easily had the most intriguing power, and it made no sense that he was the one that got killed.
To be fair Iceman getting killed by a super Sentinal makes sense...that isn't them nerfing him, thats showing how powerful their enemy was in that timeline. Also...Loki is always being pushed around by Dr Strange....and in his own series, they gave him powers he doesn't even have in the comics!

Why some people think First Class is one of the best X-Men films is beyond me. You said it, some good sequences but the shit outweighs the good. The funniest part is he can't control how his body adapts. From what I remember there's a comic where he jumps off a cliff wanting to gain the ability to fly but instead he just turns into slime or something and harmlessly falls to the ground. Something like that.

Should have had him survive, have Shaw be legitimately impressed by it and ironically congratulate him and then say “Azrael, put him on ice.” Azrael grabs him and teleports him. When he returns a second later (covered in a dusting of snow) and they ask what he’s done Shaw tells them that Darwin’s “cooling off somewhere in Antarctica. Alive no doubt but alone with no idea where he is and no idea where to go he may soon wish he wasn’t.”

@@Punisher0362 to my understanding his power is to adapt to survive, so his body would adapt to the 2 life threatening problems there. The cold and lack of food because you can't say Antarctica lacks water. So he'd be alive but I don't see teleportation being the first adaptation his body makes unless he tries to get eaten by an orca or something or he goes insane with isolation and possibly not with control over where he ends up either. Either way he's out of the way for long enough so as to not pose a threat.
I love that when he came up against world breaker hulk. His body tried to absorb gamma radiation, then said "f*ck this sh*t I'm out" and literally teleported him outta there haha.

Hulk in MCU is nerfed and they try to balance heroes out which is a joke because Marvel from the very beginning was about all kinds of scales of heroes. Personally I hate the cosmic scale and beyond. Street to global is best scale. Where sometimes global heroes like avengers have to fight off threat from another dimension or cosmic threat like galactus, thanos. This is wht spider man and daredevil are so popular because it is just more fun. Iron-Man was imo best balance, one day fights aliens, the next day some human hunts him for revenge. Iron-Man having to fight magical enemies is so good because he has barely any counter to that and some low magical criminals can be tough nuts. Kind of sucks how Mandarin was fake. I would love Iron-Man vs Dr doom too but yeah RDJ is out and doom is served for fantastic four and avengers. Iron-Man deserved a trilogy with Mandarin haunting him but sadly it was all set up for Thanos from the beginning and this is also why MCU sucks after Thanos. They had 0 set up for the next phase other than some easter eggs in Infinity War and Endgame

If I recall correctly, because darwin doesnt have control of his powers it generally takes the easiest way out based on his needs. At first he needed to stop hulk so he evolved to absorb gamma. He then needed to survive another hit from hulk. the easiest way to survive another hit from hulk is to just not be there anymore.

I had to rewatch the film because I couldn’t process how Shaw killed Darwin. There were so many different ways that scene could have gone and they picked the one with the least sense.

Angel Salvador gets to live through the movie... but not the mutant whose power is literally "creative/adaptive not dying", no he fucking dies. The freaking fly woman lives! What has never made sense to me is that Darwin's powers turned him to stone/scaled him up to survive Havok's blast when Shaw was the target; but it can't somehow vent the energy or erase his mouth before Shaw can stuff the energy inside?! There were tons of options from the second Shaw blocked his punch. That is some bullshit right there! What pisses me off even more is that a large number of the mutants who survived First Class are killed off screen in the next freaking movie!
Adaptive Evolution/Reactive Evolution is one of the most underused powers I can think of; the potential is so rarely capitalized on! Darwin, Lifeguard, Doomsday; they get reduced down to the absolute minimum of what they're possibly capable of.

I'm not saying Shaw couldn't DEFEAT Darwin, I'm saying that Shaw KILLING Darwin makes no sense in terms of power in general. Especially since the power Shaw is using to kill him is one he shrugged off moments before! The scene and death were horribly written. The only way it makes sense is if his whole vanishing act was his body becoming energy or something, but the movie never tries to explain anything other than: "Well, he dead!"
Also; this version of Sebastian Shaw absorbs, stockpiles, and releases energy, he doesn't reflect it like a mirror would to a beam from a flashlight.

5:01 except that exact thing has worked on the Hulk before when the Hulk attacked the Silver Surfer who treated the Hulk like a gnat and didn’t even really bother to fight him. The Surfer drained Hulk of the gamma radiation and Hulk became Banner.

You know, with all this multiverse stuff happening and the X-Men universe being folded into the MCU, it would be amazing if Darwin somehow came back, played by the same actor and redeemed the character in Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. Probably won't happen, but very well could.

Hello! I'm one of the few who had read the script and revised it before First Class got released. I wanted to let you know that the reason why he got killed off is not because of skin color but rather it is because of his ability and the actor's personal reasons. Initially, he wasn't supposed to die as there were many revisions of the scripts and none of them had his character killed. It was a little bit later on that they had to make a last second decision to kill him off because of few reasons and one of which is that he is too overpowered compared to the other mutants - secondly, the actor was having health complications at that time and couldn't commit to the role fully hence why he had to resign the contract early on. This led to the writers and even the director to fully finalize the decision of removing him on screen (killing him off). Even though I was just a revisionist, I was invited to a few shooting and behind the scenes so I was a little bit updated as to what is happening. We weren't allowed to talk about what was going on but it's safe to talk about it now as the movie has already been out for a few years.

As cool as his power is, we have to admit he's definitely a character better suited for pages of a comic than a movie screen. In a movie he literally becomes God and nothing would prove interesting to watch in the time frame of a movie because he would adapt to everything the villians could throw at him. It's like having an invincibility code in a video game. It's fun at first, but without any real threat of danger it gets boring fairly quickly.
I mean they can make it work. There's no limit to what his powers do but they don't always work in his favor. Imagine if they make him more of a puzzle piece that the rest has to figure out how to use it.
Of course in the current state of MCU, I'm afraid they would turn him into a joke character than an actual member.
There are limits to his powers. When he fought the Hulk, instead he developed gamma siphoning poweres, when that didn't work his powers teleported off the battlefield. Because the best way to fight the Hulk, is to not fight the Hulk

Hi. I've spent a good deal of my life pursuing a medical career. However, I really, REALLY like comics! I subscribed. I was sorry to see Darwin get nerfed in the movie also. I followed his story in Uncanny X-Men, when Storm lost her powers, spotted a Mohawk and became leader of the Morlocks; good ole 80s!😅

Ok, first of all, Shaw usually only absorbs kinetic energy as it's the easiest to absorb, so he can absorb Havok's plasma energy, BUT he cannot redirect energy that he has absorbed, he uses said energy to enhance his strength, speed and durability. Even though it is stated in Marvel wiki that Shaw has a secondary mutation, where he can redirect energy that he absorbs, he can't do what was depicted in the movie, he usually fires off energy bolts from his hands, not little balls of energy. One time Storm and Nightcrawler almost kicked his ass by Storm lowering the ambient temperature all around him and Nightcrawler just juggled him with his feet, it almost worked, but Shaw was able to grab Nightcrawler's ankle, then he punched him in the stomach as hard as he could, and then he threw him at Storm, rendering them both unconscious.

I remember my parent's being awfully disappointed when Darwin didn't make it to the final act. He easily had the most intriguing power, and it made no sense that he was the one that got killed.
To be fair Iceman getting killed by a super Sentinal makes sense...that isn't them nerfing him, thats showing how powerful their enemy was in that timeline. Also...Loki is always being pushed around by Dr Strange....and in his own series, they gave him powers he doesn't even have in the comics!

From the first time I saw it, I was already not impressed for many reasons but when they killed Darwin I was like, "oh f*** this." Yea I actually hate First Class (don't get me started on Mystique)
Tbh it's one of the better X Men movies. One of the better marvel movies even. Also, what would be annoying about Mystique? She's barely in these first two.

I strongly feel that Earth-616 Realm’s (Darwin) mutant should appear in a M.C.U. movie.
I also think that the mutant DARWIN deserves to appear in the new Marvel cartoon shows.

I like that the head canon that his powers actually activated and his body disintegrated while his consciousness went to a different reality where he would be safe.
