Thank you for posting this! My Grandfather had a mid 40's John Deere M and as far as I know, every piece of equipment that he could get from the dealer to come with it, including the hammer mill, and that was the only piece I never got to help operate. I think he had stopped using it by the time I got old enough to help. He explained how it worked, but this is the first time I ever actually got to see one run, and again, thank you!

I've seen a lot of hammer mills sitting around, but never seen them in action until now. My grandpa used to cut firewood with a saw that was powered by the tractor, via a belt like that, he used molasses on the belt sometimes. Thanks for Sharing. 😊

That’s a running old tractor. Nice job of grinding corn too

My Gdaddy used a Ford 861 named Bearcat to power a hammermill like yours. He would mill up wheat from our fields, and Mama would make delicious biscuits. The good ole days I remember❤

we run a jd 420 every day at the sawmill, skidding logs and placing them on the mill with a boom on the 3pt hitch. it i s great. the only bad thing about m and its newer forms is that it replaced h which was a jewel of a tractor

Nice video! If you don’t have the generator hooked up to the fan pulley, how are you charging the battery because it looks like it’s a battery ignition not mag

We don't keep a battery in it. When we run it we just put a charger one in for the hour or so we run it.

We have grown it in the past but just don't have the acreage for our own feed since we grow our sorghum. Blessings

Generator on the motor might work better with a belt on it.
