    -UPDATE!-
    The old website for ffmpeg has shut down so i've linked the ffmpeg files I used for both mac and windows below. Just enter £0 to download. If they don't work for you, you can always export as a PNG sequence and bring that into an editing program. I use the free version of Davinci Resolve :)

    IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! (Onion skin FAQ!)
    1. when you open up a file you need to make a new layer and animate on that. the default layer krita opens with will be 'filled in' so the onion skin won't work with that as it needs a transparent layer (any new layer you make will be transparent!).
    2. when you start animating on the new layer you need to make a new blank keyframe every time you want to draw something new (right click on the timeline - select 'create blank frame') otherwise it'll just edit the drawing you have.
    3. have the lightbulb activated on the layer you want it to work on (timeline panel)
    4. in the animation panel there'll be a icon that looks like an onion, click it, and then select the '1' either side of the '0' to show the next and previous frames. you can select more and adjust the opacity levels of each.

    **
    Following on from my 2D animation software video, I made a tutorial on how to animate in Krita. I really hope this helps someone, Krita isn't my main animation software (which is TVPaint 11 PRO) so all these tips were things I figured out as I went along :)
    It wasn't 100% smooth sailing in Krita, there were a few bugs and sometimes the brush lost pressure sensitivity (fixed by switching to a new one and then back again, weirdly), though I'm not quite sure whether it was because of my laptop or a bug in the software.Also make sure that the layer you're animating on is transparent and that the layer in the timeline panel has the little lightbulb activated, otherwise, your onion skin won't work!

      my dear friend honestly some people were just born lucky and me and you aren’t one of them BUT talent has nothing to do with whether you are good at drawing or not and I am proof of that because I am only twelve years old and I’m already trying to animate for fun ya know so usually what I did was not draw something original but copy a drawing from someone else as practice and then one from my mind, you have to do this atleast once a day but the more you do it the better you art becomes :) so if you do this I wish you the best!!!
      oh btw I doodled a lot of things and the things I doodled were hard things for me like eye brows and hands and stuff so obviously I got better and I’m not AMAZING at drawing but I guess my art is kinda nice?

      Does anyone know why the timeline won’t show up? I think there is something wrong with the screen, I do all of the steps but the timeline just isn’t there and it looks like the bottom half of my screen has been cut off. I’m so sad rn. I was hoping to be able to animate on krita but i don’t think that’ll work. My luck is horrible

    • @carlitae7600
      @carlitae7600 3 года назад +2

      @@nymthetyrant I think it's because your screen might be a little bit short for the original organisation of krita but don't worry I've got the same problem, here is what I've done : exit full screen mode, on top right of your krita window, like if you wanted to reduce the window, then put it in full screen mode again, it should've show the timeline on the bottom, if the place is still too small, try to rearrange your dockers, for example if you've got layers, onion skins, colors picker etc as dockers, try to put them on the left or right part of your screen, it should release some space for your timeline on the bottom ! Hope it helps you !

On my tablet I have krita, so I searched for " how to animate on krita " and watched your video. I understood almost everything at the first listen, but I played it few times for sureness . It took me half of hour just to set up animation docks and another to understand the frames. Then I struggled next 3 hours with drawing ( it turned out to be 10 second video) and another hour to save it and send it to someone. I can't imagine how hard would it be whiteout this perfect simple to understand video of yours, so thank you very very very much ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Also you can add what animation software you normally use in the description or as a subtitle in your videos so you're not spending a lot of time answering the same question.
    Otherwise keep it up! Loving the videos.

    • @kdsketch
      @kdsketch  5 лет назад +7

      @@emmyuwu5403 No problem, glad it's working now! For the onion skin there's a couple of things you need to do.
      1. when you open up a file you need to make a new layer and animate on that. the default layer krita opens with will be 'filled in' so the onion skin won't work with that.
      2. when you start animating on the new layer you need to make a new blank keyframe every time you want to draw something new (right click on the timeline - select 'create blank frame') otherwise it'll just edit the drawing you have.
      3. have the lightbulb activated
      4. in the animation panel there'll be a icon that looks like an onion, click it, and then select the '1' either side of the '0' to show the next and previous frames. you can select more and adjust the opacity levels of each.
      Hope this helps!

Its very simple, a ball appears mid air, some lighting-shimmer on its surface, and then it falls into the hand of a non-descript dummy. 52 frames. not much, but its a working GIF now thanks to your tutorials.

      I know how you feel, my first tablet was a real struggle, but it did get better. Other than just keep practicing I'd suggest taking breaks to draw traditionally (helps remind you that you're actually good at drawing so you can get back to drawing on the tablet refreshed!). Doing studies and using references is a good way too - quick timed drawings help get your wrist used to using the tablet too and build up muscle memory :) Even if it's just 10/15 minutes a day doing sketches and warm ups before you get to the actual stuff you want to draw helps get the bad drawings out (I need to do this more haha). I used a cheap/small wacom bamboo one/fun for my first tablet, I think they've stopped making it now but it helped me practice and get used to drawing digitally - you don't need the biggest/most expensive tablet right away :)

      I've only tried a few so far like Sketchbook and Krita, but I'm planning to take a look at Opentoonz to see which I like more - I'll make another video on it eventually 😂 between sketchbook and krita I'd say Krita is the better option, simply because you can have more layers, but if you want a stable programme with less bugs and is easier to use then check out Sketchbook - since both are free there's no reason why you couldn't use both to see which one you prefer :)

    Another question when i draw a ball moving and switch to the a new frame the old ball shows

    • @kdsketch
      @kdsketch  5 лет назад +3

      No problem! You'll need to create a new blank keyframe every time you want to draw something different otherwise it will just adjust the last one you made. To make a new keyframe you need to right click on the timeline and hit 'create blank frame'. or there's a button in the animation toolbar - it's the first icon beneath the playback buttons on the left. Hovering over them will tell you what each of them does :) Hope this helps!

    I'm not a pro animator, but here is a tip that is absolutely true:
    Only use the onion skin when the change is very minimal and you need to find inbetweens between close differences.
    When the distance of changes is larger, it's better to pick 'dots' on the drawing, and then "roll" or "flip" the frames moving the dot of the line where it would be in the inbetween.
    Repeat that process with a few dots until you have enough information to work from there. This usually makes the animation more voluminous and less stiff because it focuses on the motion.
    I don't know if Krita actually has an easy way to roll, but even if you scrub the timeline manually, this dot approach is legit.

    • @kdsketch
      @kdsketch  4 года назад

      You can set up shortcuts in Krita so it's easier to flip between the frames, I do this a lot in other programmes and in the rough stage helps make the movement more belivable :)
