Hey, Paul🤘 I know this video is 2 years old, but just now I'm doing the same with the same guitar (even the color😉). Just wanted to ask the thing that is not shown in your vid - did you find the bridge ground wire there. It is not needed while the actives are there, but with the passives installed it is a must. Thanks in advance)
Hey, man just a quick question: With all these custom-shop level and exclusive guitars that pass through your hands a lot, how does the quality of your good ol', trusty ESP stand up and compare to them? Not blown out of the water by any means, I presume?
I was recently told by a buddy that this red beauty is the quintessential Paul Ozz guitar, and I tend to agree. Mahogany, maple, and madness. The 3 M's that make up my channel. Honestly? I think it holds its own against all of them very positively. Despite the old ass slightly broken floyd. Despite the fretwear. It's been played, and it's mine, and I am happy to own it. I just wrote an Ozzy-style track for fun - 5 years ago I wrote instrumental prog metal. This year I wrote blackened death metal. All started with this one. It's trust because I trust it, because it's my guitar. I review a lot of beautiful guitars, but this one is truly mine.
Wonderful answer, man. Inspiring and touching, and a solid representation of why we gear-heads just love the instrument! About to pull the trigger on an ESP M1 for about half its original price and just wanted a reference of where ESP quality stands in this era of hyper-custom shop guitars and exotic everythings. This'll be my first pro-level guitar, if ever! Thanks for the response :D
This was super helpful thanks for the video I have a Schecter with EMG pickups but really want to switch them out for Dimarzio pickups I love but the whole active to passive thing no makes me second guess it. If I have to make the pod holes bigger I’m not sure if I should do it cause I might sell this guitar down the line and want to put original parts back. The dilemma. I’m a jeweler too lol your dads awesome! Thanks for the great video! Will subscribe for support
I own the same ESP, but in see thru black and passive SD pickups... I was wondering if quilted maple tops on ESP standard series were really full thick maple caps or just a veneer glued on a piece of plain maple... This video took my doubt away, now I know the real and thick figured maple tops are reserved for the custom shop guitars...
Ricardo Seixas if your guitar has a see-thru finish you'll be able to tell if it has a cap or veneer by looking down the guitar from the headstock to the body, look in the cutaways because a maple cap will look different (lighter)to the mahogany body near to where the neck meets the guitar - the binding doesn't cover this so it is quite apparent.
DRED ATOR Yeah, I've already done that. That's exactly like you said, we can see the line where the maple is glued to the body wings...but that's not the point...although it's a thick maple cap, it doesn't seem to be a full thickness quilted maple cap, I may be wrong (although I don't think I'm wrong), but it looks much more like a very slim venner of quilted maple glued on a piece of plain maple.
@@PaulOuzounovlmao! you’re still alive?! Me and the boys thought you were dead, especially after ol’ Chester took a turn and sold the farm. We were worried sick about you!
I like your sort of father-son bond where he still has you working with him hands-on. Close knit families are great man
Cool video, Paul. It always makes me smile seeing people having fun with papa. Thanks for sharing! :)
EMG's use 25k pots not 250k pots.
Simple mistake!
Just didn't want someone to to use wrong pot.
Those pickups look pretty cool I thought that they were bare knuckles at first

How did you end up making the holes bigger?

I have a schecter C1 Platinum in thinking about swapping the emg to seymour duncan invaders

It has a quilted maple top, is it very thick? No. But it's NOT a veneer. Veneer's are like paper.
Veneer = Thin
Top = Medium thickness
Cap = Thickest
Ya my Caparison has a cap of walnut on it. It's nearly as thick as the mahogany half.

Did I hear something about NASA at 5:52? Duct tape! hahaha. I'm going from EMGs to BK HDs but I'm taking it to a tech.
I believe ESP was using CTS pots at the time when your Horizon was made?
They use the pots that come with the EMG pickups, which are 25k , not 250k, Paul was wrong saying they are 250K.
are these the 19mm ones ?
this was entertaining.
nice vid👍
song/band at 12 min?
My song Dust off of my newest E.P called TARTARVS
Where are you from, bro? Are you Russian or Slavic? :p
Bulgarian
Hey guy help me out can i use 5 volume active control on a passive emg pikup
I would assume not my man :/
Lol. Guy still believes tone wood exists and mahogany is gonna have a sound to it that the pickup will compensate for
Yo, look how old this video is and don't come back.
