'मनुष्यता' कविता में कवि मैथिलीशरण गुप्त मनुष्य को मनुष्यता का भाव अपनाने के लिए कहते हैं। उनके अनुसार आज का मनुष्य अपने स्वार्थों की पूर्ति हेतु लोकहित जैसी भावना को भूलता जा रहा है। जो मनुष्य अपने लिए जीता है, वह पृथ्वी में पशु के समान है। क्योंकि पशु के जीवन का उद्देश्य खाना और सोना होता है। भगवान ने मनुष्य को सामर्थ्यवान बनाया है। मनुष्य दूसरों की सेवा करने के स्थान पर पूरा जीवन स्वयं का भरण-पोषण करने में व्यर्थ करता है, तो वह मनुष्य कहलाने लायक नहीं है। कवि कर्ण, दधीचि ऋषि, रंतिदेव, राजा उशीनर आदि महानुभूतियों का उदाहरण देकर मनुष्य को लोकहित के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं। वह कहते हैं, जो मनुष्य इस संसार में दूसरों की सेवाभाव में अपना जीवन समर्पित करते हैं, वे इस संसार के द्वारा ही नहीं अपितु भगवान के द्वारा भी पूज्यनीय होते हैं। वह अपने कार्यों से समाज में अन्य लोगों को लोकहित और सेवा का मार्ग दिखाते हुए चलते हैं। ऐसे व्यक्ति समाज में मिसाल कायम करते हैं। युगों-युगों तक उनकी गाथा गायी जाती है। अत: मनुष्य को अपने गुणों का विकास करते हुए, पूरा जीवन लोकहित में अर्पण कर देना चाहिए।

@@EnchantiqueFinds Not at all, There are quiet a few things Gandhi wasn't able to do alone. I don't want to create any controversies here so I'll only say that Gandhi IS NOT the best example.
The best examples would be Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chattrapati Shivaji, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Khudiram Bose, etc.
@@EnchantiqueFinds Gandhiji has contributed a lot to the nation but there are many stories that aren’t popular with the public. You can google “the dark side of Gandhi” and you’ll find some pretty shocking stories including one about how he labelled his wife as ‘undesirable’ and how he would “test his celibacy.” These are just a few stories... Gandhiji could have stopped the hanging of Bhagat Singh but he didn’t. He insisted that Nehru become the PM though Vallabhbhai clearly won the election. A permanent seat in the UN was turned down etc etc. The list can go on

@@EnchantiqueFinds Gandhi was not at all ideal. There are many flaws of Gandhi. For example, when Britishers were collapsing Indians, we could predominantly Use violence to stop them. This could lead to our win plus we could've not been stolen by them. Also, when a father sees his daughters being oppressed, he(father) uses violence to protect them. Violence is not bad if it comes for protection. If somebody attacks you, will you not protect yourself by being violent against the enemy? This is just one flaw of Gandhi. There are many others which I definitely won't be discussing here.
