I appreciate the lowdown on tools. Durston has gone to China like everyone else. Pepe Tools is still US made, so quality product. It does not save money to buy cheap tools, and then buy the good ones later. Buy good ones from the start. Plus they are a joy to use. Very good analysis and much appreciated!

I'm sitting at home recovering from my IV ozone and super immune treatments for Lyme+. I have always been a tattoo artist and shown my own shop and I silversmith as a hobby. I haven't been able to work for over a year now. I just happened across this video today and I was so grateful. I'm thoroughly taking notes on a lot of the tools you had on hand. I too just love Pepe Tools. They are such a hands on business. Anyway, thank you for the video and also for sharing that you too suffer from Lyme disease. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, for real. No one should have home health nurses at 39 years old. I hope your little journey is in a remission state and that you aren't suffering too much.

Oh man I'm definitely praying for you! I don't miss all the iv treatments and not being able to work or do anything. You must have seen my back story video on my other channel. I will just leave you with this bit of encouragement. I thought that I was never going to get better, or at most only be able to become functional. I'm telling you this: a few years ago I completely left all those symptoms in the past (hopefully lol. I'm still always worried about a relapse) I'm going to be hiking the grand canyon in a few weeks! That was unimaginable just a few years ago. There is definitely light at the end of this tunnel. Just don't ever let yourself forget it!!

As far as surfaces to anneal on, fire brick (sometimes called refractory) is a cheap means to an end. Many hardware and builders supply stores carry it. It comes in different sizes, but I get the thinner ones which are around an inch and a half thick. $2.99 each in my local hardware store (Ace). It’s used to line wood stoves, and fire won’t harm it.

The Durston is harder and is bigger and takes much longer to machine then both temper them after machining them. Pepe is med quality professional Durston is higher quality professional.
