Like the advice about rolling tenths, as well as the exercises! Here are some songs from my top ten list of little-known songs about "ten" that were not very successful: 5. Ten Coins In the Fountain (did not win Academy Award in 1954); 4. 10 to 5 (Dolly Parton's first draft) 3. Take Ten (Dave Brubeck's first draft) 2. Ten Little Words (Cut from the 1950 film Three Little Words) 1. Ten Times a Lady (Lionel Richie felt this was overstating it, and later subtracted 7)
HI Jeremy. Another great lesson, as usual. Sorry to disturb you and use youtube for my request. I’m a huge Spanish fan (one among thousandas) and I’m trying to buy your books. When I go to your shop, from Spain, it redirects me to Amazon in my country. No problem with that, but the issues are. First, no discount, ok no problem. Second, no signature from you (i could try lo live without it) but the most important lack for me is that the PDFs are not included. I use very much this format in order to print some sheets, write over them, and play with them. Is there any way I can prove my purchase to tou and getting the PDFs.? Thanks in advance for your understanding and for sharing with the world your music
Thanks for asking! It’s so expensive to ship overseas! It’s not worth it for you or for me. If you buy the books physically and write a review on Amazon, I’ll send you the PDFs for free. Just write to me at jsiskind2@gmail.com with the info.
@@JeremySiskind I know. Don’t worry. At least with Amazon you can reach foreign countries. Years ago, that was unthinkable. Thanks again for taking your time in answering me. I’ve been told that your books will be here next wednesday. I’ll let you know via email.
Hey Jeremy - thank you for sharing your amazing skill set with us; I always learn so much and get inspired just listening to you play. I looked up the lead sheet for "The Nearness of You", and of course -- as with most lead sheets I've seen so far -- there were only 1 or 2 chords given per measure, not 4 as you were playing (and advising us to practice with the alternating 3 tenths, or full measure of 4 tenths). I'm still a green novice to jazz, so not sure how to pick "fill" chords (?) as you did. Also, it seems that even though you and my lead sheet are both in key of F, your chords don't match it, even on strong beats 1 and 3. For ex., my lead sheet says M.1: F maj7 M.2: C m7, F7, M.3: Bb maj7 M.4: Bb dim7, for reference. I know there is much flexibility in harmony and chord choice, but I was trying to find a good source piece to practice pre-written tenths with 4 chords per measure. Not sure if that exists. Thank you for all the inspiration!

I'm one of those people that was jealous of you for being able to do tenths lol. Thank you so much for this video. I think 10ths in this way will be doable for me. I'm going to give it a try today with a 1, 6, 2, 5, chord progression with the song Heart and Soul. Wish me luck! : )

Wow .. game changer! I have always loved the sound of Tatum and learned many stride pieces but those rolling / walking tenths really make a huge difference in the sound of an arrangement.. great video stopping and practicing along .. have your book but now it’s making more sense after seeing the video ❤thanks !!
Guitarists love tenths, they don't require stretching. When I play harmonized bass lines and shell chords I often work within a frame work of tenths or sixths in the outer voices, with a third interior voice that triangulates the harmony.

Very informative videos. Could you explain how you're using 10ths to move inside the chord and also using them to connect or walk up to the next chord? Is there a formula for this?
This video is personally attacking me😂 ive been practicing a lot of stride lately and ive been so tensed my forearm and wrists and thumb really suffered. I can reach most of the 10 on the piano but it makes me work very hard i think practicing more rolling will help me reduce a lot of pressure
