We played 36 innings against the stros, and lost that series by 4 total runs. As I like to put it, we played the equivalent of 4 one run games against the eventual world series champion.
The worst part about this as a Jays fan is the team has only regressed since then, so we'll probably be looking back at this collapse as the high-water mark for the Bichette/Guerrero Blue Jays
It takes a really special level of ineptitude to give the Mariners their first playoff wins in 21 years *and* then let the Twins snap their streak of 15 straight playoff losses in a 365 day span
I respect anyone who admits their sucky team sucks. As a long-time Jays fan, we really suck, currently and historically, save for a few years in the early 90s, mid 80s and 2015-16.
As a jays fan I want to say this is salting a fairly fresh wound, but after this 2024 season…this feels like a fond memory now. (Oh, and I had tickets to the next nights game. Might never get to see October baseball)

The feeling surrounding the Mariners that year was electric. I was at the game that clinched the wildcard slot and you’d have thought we just won the World Series by the noise in the stadium.
I was at this game. The only unfortunate part is that I happen to be a Blue Jays fan and had to suffer this collapse first hand, not to mention this was my first ever time attending a postseason game. Absolutely heartbreaking.

I can’t believe we got the Dylan Moore home run against the astros in a sbnation video. I went to probably about 20 games that season and about a dozen over the next few years. There will never be a moment like that. I was even at the watch party at the stadium for the comeback this vid is highlighting and even that didn’t feel the same

8:34 I'd like to provide some context here: earlier that season in the TOR @ SEA series in July, Carlos Santana had slugged 3 homeruns in the span of two games against the Jays, all of which were off their right handed pitchers. The jays manager was possibly thinking when he pulled gausman "okay, I know what he's done to my righties, maybe a lefty would be a better idea here".
I really liked the idea for this video but I wish they'd gone a little more into the wildcard playoff format and how that basically caused chaos around the entire league up until this game. also would've been cool to hear more about Julio and game 1.

This happened on my 25th birthday about a year after I became a sports fan, with the Mariners being the reason I became one. Easy to say this was the best sports moment ive seen so far as a sports fan :)
That whole year was crazy from the win streak to crying after clinching the playoffs to celebrating the comeback to playing the hardest division series vs the Astros that team was so good
Also, in the mid 2010’s, if they had done a better job of developing prospects then in 2014 or 16 they could’ve made it then. They also could’ve made the playoffs in 2002 and 2003 if today’s playoff format was around then. Speaking of suffering contests, the very next year the Blue Jays would suffer another agonizing Wild Card loss to another long suffering franchise in the Minnesota Twins, who had previously lost a record 18 consecutive playoff games.
Fun part about this as a Jays fan: we're two seasons later and the team is much worse and still nobody in management has been fired. the present and the future for this franchise is beyond bleak.
I was at half of the home games that 22 season, fun differential was at an all time high, watching those walk offs that season and one run win games was such a wild ride. GOMS

I was so mad when the score was 1-8 bottom of it he fifth inning. Then I watched it all unfold! Just found the slip from my phone lol.

Still not sure whether the idea came from the manager of the front office - inexplicably nobody was fired for this idiocy - but this is my go to candidate for 'stupidest ideas in the history of sports playoff games'.

My gf shot up in anticipation, but she was accidentally sitting on the remote, and happened to turn it off at the most inopportune time. I saw all the blue jays players barreling towards each other, and then just black. Talk about panic
eh not rlly, JV starting game 1 shouldn’t have been a thing. He had a extremely lucky .256 BABIP and had balls getting hit at s 16.6° LA. all of this is from august 1st 2022 to the end of the regular season. So he was bound to let some runs in and it just so happened to be in game 1 of the ALDS. Had baker started framber game 1, the comeback doesnt happen bc there is no need for it. And while we may lose game 2, LMJ and Javier were waiting in the wings for games 3-4.
I was at Safeco watching the game on the scoreboard with a crowd of Mariner fans. Even though we weren't allowed above the main level or past either 1st or 3rd base, that was still one of the loudest crowds I've ever been a part of watching that comeback.
Phillies fan who now lives in the PNW, I was really hoping for a Phillies/Mariners World Series that year. Not even just so I could see my team without having to get on a plane, Mariners fans are really cool and I wanted them to have something good. Kind of a bummer that they haven't gotten back to the post season these past two years.
I remember when this utter collapse happened. I was in Syracuse with my family for a vacation. I checked the score at a bar, only to see it was 9-9. My uncle phoned and it was 10-9. I then compared this collapse to the Leafs' 2013 collapse against the Bruins. UrinatingTree did a video congratulating the Blue Jays the following day.
As a Mariners fan, 2022 was pretty awesome, especially winning that series. I know Houston swept us in the next, but that 18 inning marathon game mean it took Houston essentially a full extra game to do it. I just hope it's not another 19 years before the next playoff appearance.
Have you ever considered making Rewinds for F1? Theres a lot of amazing moments you could highlight, like Verstappen v. Hamilton, Leclerc’s hometown win in Monaco or Brawn GP’s remarkable 2009 season. Lot of potential topics to cover.
Secret Base! We need a "Moment in history" video on Jhon Duran's goal against Bayern Munich, so much built into it, it's insane. Duran was on the brink of leaving in the summer, going so far as to do the "Irons" on a livestream which is gesture associated with West Ham, a team he was reported to have strong interest from, since then he has scored 5 game winners one of which was against West Ham. Villa won their only Champions League (When it was the European Cup) by beating Bayern 1-0 in the final and for their first home game back in the Champions League in 40+ years they again play Bayern Munich. It's a tight game, Villa have a goal chalked off due to offside and Bayern pressure them, we get into the 70th minute, Duran has been subbed on, one long ball from Pau Torres splits the Bayern defence, Neuer is off his line and from about 25 yards Duran lobs Neuer and scores the goal that would see Villa go on to win 1-0 just like they did 40+ years ago.
@@matthewdaley746 good series for sure (plus winning the pennant), but most of the games in 2014 went extra innings… and they were major underdogs that year

There are quite a few deep rewind worthy moments from the 2022 Postseason like the 2021-22 Divisional. This game, The Yordan Game, Harper’s NLCS Game 5 Dagger, the Entirety of Game 5 of the World Series, five years from 2017 WS Game 5 and “THIS GAME HAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN!!!”. And then the 2021-22 NFL Season as well. Like seriously, when are we getting a Week 18 deep rewind.
It's weird to think how many great moments there were from the 2022 playoffs, considering only 2/11 series went to winner-take-all games: Oscar Gonzalez walking it off for the Guards in the 15th inning with the power of SpongeBob, the infamous "rock the baby" series they had with the Yankees, the grueling 18 inning Game 3 in Seattle capped by a go-ahead Jeremy Peña bomb.
@@robertbreedlovecraft and that’s before even factoring in the NFL that year (Week 18 Rivalry for a playoff spot and an all time choke, the legendary 2021-22 divisional round, the primetime games throughout the season, I could go on.)
The worst part of this is I was going to my first playoff game in the 3rd game of the ALDS (which would have been at home in 2022) had they won both games 2 and 3 (they lost Game 1 and had to win both of them) and when the team lost, I felt pissed that I would have no game to watch and I just moved on
The most embarrassing moment being a Jays fan. This should never ever happen in the playoffs and we didn't learn and still hired another incompetent manager
As a Mariners, 2022 seemed like the start to hopefully a spot in our first World Series in a couple of years. 2 years later, all I see is that being a fluke year. Everyone expected us to take the next step and we went backwards. Idk how long we can keep our starting rotation and core together, but I don't see Kirby, Cal, or anyone willingly resign with us. Just going to watch us trade away these guys and start another drought probably.
We need a series covering rebuilds to see which ones were successful and which ones failed.

@@trippietoadie1296 Unfortunately the punches are the only thing Odor knew how to throw, as he demonstrated in that season's ALDS
I was at this game. It was worse in person, because it was happening a few feet away and you could do nothing to stop it
just lil chills down the arms nbd
Clara? We are so back!
I was there for that Cal Raleigh clinch homer. Easily the greatest moment I've had at a game.
As a Toronto sports fan the dudes in the back were smiling bc the leafs already prepared them for what was about to happen
The worst part of this is I was going to my first playoff game in the 3rd game of the ALDS (which would have been at home in 2022) had they won both games 2 and 3 (they lost Game 1 and had to win both of them) and when the team lost, I felt pissed that I would have no game to watch and I just moved on
You should do a Rewinder on the 1996 Olympics Women's Gymnastics Team Finals
there is now a rewinder about a game i actually watched
The M's fan can remember this fondly instead of thinking about 2024.
The most embarrassing moment being a Jays fan. This should never ever happen in the playoffs and we didn't learn and still hired another incompetent manager
It’s certainly something to see the Jays of the 2020s reincarnate into the mid-2010s Rangers without the WS appearances
Hey, Mariners fan here!
god damnit :(
As a Mariners, 2022 seemed like the start to hopefully a spot in our first World Series in a couple of years.
