    Some shop orientated reasons to keep scraps:
    1. Test stains and finishes. Especially for new woodworkers, it can be hard to know how wood will react with different stains and finishes. Testing things on your off cuts before you use anything on the project can prevent a disaster.
    2. Router depth verification and profile checking. Sometimes router bits can be a little tricky to measure just right. Setting the depth and running a scrap piece over it can help make that final adjustment. When you start working with more intricate router bits checking how they look before committing to it on your project.
    3. Blade and bit quality. If you have been using a bit or blade on softer woods sometimes they become too dull to use on a hard wood. Test it and check for tear out or burning. You can also do this on woods you're not familiar with to figure out how your tools will cut it before you end up, uhh, "adding character" to your project.

    • @deanobuilds
      @deanobuilds  2 месяца назад

      @@AnthonyMorris-h7s I couldn’t agree more! I do all these things on a regular basis, there’s nothing worse than messing up your project by not testing things first😉

    G'day Deano, love the video and have subscribed. Now to look at some of your other videos to check out your work table.
    I recently started woodworking as a creative outlet as I used to create spreadsheets/databases/applications etc. so I need something to do. Luckily for me there is a sawmill nearby that does Cypress Pine, they cut down hedges/wind breaks that were planted in the 50's/60's and turn it into timber. I am fortunate in that I get loads of offcuts of varying sizes and try to make stuff with little intervention, hence the 2 seats I just made for my grand-daughters I struggle to pick up but they should get lighter as the wood dries out. My wife is like the woodworkers you mentioned, she would prefer that what I turn out is perfect but I say here is my first one and now for more. Is the Orange Oil good for furniture like seats and is it food safe?
    Have a great day.

      But it’s good to keep people on their toes 😉
