Thanks for sharing your engagement with and in the sea. We bought our first sailing vessel last summer - a Catalina 42 and feel instantly like we are back in the 3rd grade. Exhilarated and afraid, it's great to learn why for example a mast snaps or why it's good idea to closely inspect steering cables. Most of all it's great to see youthful exuberance and a positive attitude carry the day! Brethren learners from the pacific coast.
Loving the videos guys, keep up the great work. Just a little suggestion maybe reference the date, (month/year) the video was relevant to. I know you guys are a few months behind, so would put some of your story into time context if we know when if was. Cheers 👍
Would have to agree with a previous comment, when trolling for pelagic fish like tuna or mahi-mahi (yum) you seriously need a steel leader. They can be bought pre-made from fishing shops. Otherwise you will soon tire of loosing lures. Love your boat :-)

The 'little Greek lady" had me in stitches! We used to call our uncle's mum the little Wog(no offense intended). Not because we wanted to but because she demanded we did! She was hilarious and about 4 foot nothing tall! Imagine Con the Fruiterer (Comedy Company for those who aren't Aussies from before the 90s) but as a little old lady. Actually she could have been his mum, because she was just so animated like he is and she had a real gravely voice from smoking 3 packs a day. God love her 🤣 Anyway, that's probably not PC these days but it made me think of her, and she is dearly missed. Anyway. I tell you what though (serious tone now), you guys have come on great guns with your confidence on the boat. It's also great seeing you harnessed and clipped on while on night watch Kristina. Loads of other sailing YTers could learn a lot from you guys there. I see so many that are so complacent about safety. You're alright until something bad and unexpected happens to you is the way they seem to sail. Better to be prepared for the worst than to be reacting while panicking at the same time because you weren't prepared. Anyway I look forward to your future videos. As someone else said, it's great seeing Australia being shown off on YT (even if it is the wrong coast 🤪). Take care guys and stay safe.

I sail with a friend of mine out of Sandringham. I have watched many sailing video series and I need to say yours is one of my favourites. Your videos and narration are awesome. Can't wait to see more. My goal is to sail the Med one day being of Cretan heritage. Can't wait till you guys catch some fish and cook it on the bbq (greek style of course) and enjoy it with some wine watching the sunset in Nth Qld. Hehe you guys are a laugh a minute...🤣💘 Do you have a gaff to get these tuna aboard? Also try a simple Smith's Jig... A trolling line is also great for tuna 😉🦈
If you were to learn only 4 knots for fishing, from easiest to hardest. Improved clinch, palomer knot- these can tie lures to line. Double uni knot & surgeons knot - best for line to line knots. You guys seem to be pretty prepared to catch fish consistently. If there’s birds or bait there’s fish!

Another entertaining video. I have no idea how to sail a boat. The only sailing I have done was on a very small 4.3 catamaran after a big lunch at 'Barrys On The Beach' Noosa in the 80's. You two look so confident. Thanks for showing the adventure. All the best Regards Peter.

Uni knot best all round and great knot strength, for tuna use squid skit lures they are cheap and Tuna love them ( Squidnation Fat Daddy Squids are a perfect tuna fishing lure along with The Yummee Fly ‘N’ Fish is a prime trolling lure), big trolling divers are great but cost a lot and you will meet the grey tax man out there(sharks). Along with the big rod you should get a casting heay spin rod with a 8000 class real so you can throw speed jigs and Williamson Popper Pro topwater popper or The Hogy Epoxy Jig Lure in 4oz / 6 oz. That would catch almost every palegic swimming around. Hope thats a help. Use the basting rod if you see tuna busting on top of the water.
Loving these videos - keep them coming, be good to see some of the sailing ie you getting the sails out, how they work and how Tucana handles in the water.
Southport bar can be pretty chaotic at times i went through there on a yacht some years ago nearly became broadside to a big wave scary enjoyed your vid very real

How is it sailing the seas with not much experience? I would imagine being a pilot helps , we are getting ready to go with similar experience but no pilot skills
Am i right in the assumption that you are reving the engine way over 2000 rpm? It is my opinion that that is totally un neccesary. High reving only results in huge fuel consumption but hardly any addidional speed over lower revs. I always kept the revs between 1500 and 1800 rpm, that was aleays fast enough. Try it out, good luck. Very nice videoby the way, keep it up!!
Hey Rob! I agree, for that reason we rarely go over 2,000rpm. We usually only run it at 2,000 if pushing into wind or current. Otherwise we usually cruise at 1,800rpm. John has calculated this to be the least cost option when factoring in running costs/engine life vs. the cost of fuel. Best range is 1,200rpm on our engine, but we only ever run it at this rpm when we’re needing to conserve fuel or have a favourable current (nil wind). The only time we go above 2000rpm is to run up the engine as per the manual (Wide open throttle minus 100rpm for 10 minutes) to clear build up, prevent glazing of the cylinders etc. And I think for of this leg from Coffs Harbour to the GC we were doing about 1,800-2,000 🙂

That fishing rod could be a bit lower angled to the water. Tie it off like you do a raised anchor because that rod holder could fail. Keep a gaf handy
