Bill is a poet and musical genius.
So glad I got to see them live.
Bill Nelson guitar legend for those in the know
Way ahead of their time...wow, Bebop Deluxe prove why the 70's were the best decade for real music. Bill and the boys could really play 👍.
Bill reinvented beBop with every album. he finally went of the tracks with Drastic Plastic sounding like Talking Heads and totally jumped the shark with Red Noise
first band i ever saw live i was gobsmacked
I'm 70 and still the best guitar player I've seen. I absolutely loved the band
Probably the greatest guitarist of all time and also a genius in song writing.
@@user-bl5jr5vz6i and a thoroughly nice guy too. Used to work with his younger brother Ian (who has since passed) back in the day and got to meet Bill and the band many times.
Rip Charlie Tumahai
Modern Music is an album I spin on the turntable when I want to listen to a perfect album from front to back.
I can never get enough BeBop Deluxe. Their music has stayed with me for years!
pro trick: you can watch series on Flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Donald Tomas Definitely, have been using flixzone for since november myself :D
I love Be Bop Deluxe. Time I introduced my adult children to them!
They produced some purely outstanding music that was even better live than on the albums. I was very fortunate enough to see them 3 times during the 70s. I can't believe this magic is nearly 50 years old.
The best guitar player no-one knows...
Bill Nelson is a national treasure!
I was lucky enough to see them in concert twice and they were astoundingly good, one of my favourite guitar players.
Saw them at the Santa Monica Civic on their Live! In the Air Age US tour. Like '75 or '76. Been a fan ever since.
My OGWT boxset DVD set introduced me to BBD. I was totally blown away. Bill has such a fluid guitar style. Never overplayed and a great tone.
This song is so atmospheric. Such a forgotten and underrated band from back then.
I’m 53 and until now I’ve never heard of this band... wow I’m gbsmacked
Welcome … it’s great when you discover bands you missed in the early days. I’m now discovering Gentle Giant and Greenslade!
When Randy Rhoads mentioned this band as an influence, I had to check them out, very melodic and eclectic. Bill Nelson is criminally underrated.
New Precision foreshadows so many bands yet to come. Wang Chung , Talking Heads, it's a combo of jazz, futuristic, rock, sounds cape music, Bill and Be Bop were do talented and tight....
They were always so good live. Great tapestry of sounds
When I was a very young kid, my father was a drummer, and he had a fantastic vinyl collection. The cover of "Modern Music" mesmerized me, and when he taught me how to play vinyl on a turntable, I put the headphones on, and was in awe. I'm now 46, and I am every bit as in love with Be-Bop Deluxe as I was, as a kid (if not more). They were so ahead of the curve, and remain criminally underrated. Bill, Charlie (RIP), Simon and Alex ... this guy still blares your genius on the daily, and I learned so much from all of you, when I became a musician. THANK YOU, BBD ... your genius will never die.
Greetings from the United States. The band were never very popular in this country. But when I was in high school I was given the live album by someone who would won it from a radio station in a promotional event. She wasn’t interested in it and gave it to me without listening to it. I basically taught myself how to play drums playing along. It changed my life. For real. Cheers.
I love the Drastic Plastic album, that's when newwave music started popping off 🎸
That started it for me with band. I will admit being a tad disapointed going back in their catalog from here and not hearing this harder style.
I keep forgetting what an excellent band this was, and how much of a genius we have in Bill Nelson.
Saw the band my times around West Yorkshire in the 70s, sold out everywhere
Twice for me Feb 76 and Feb 77 Portsmouth Guildhall. Bill had no problem with the difficult second album or the third . Never that keen on drastic plastic and it was going to be red noise very soon after which I couldn't get into .
Mr. Bill Nelson lyrics are beyond well thought out through a highly creative gray matter adding to the most outstanding best virtuoso that makes so many emotions flow through his Ax; From joyest whispers to screaming strings, from mellow love to thunderous roaring, from brilliant melodies to razor-sharp solos... I definitely cannot be more pleased that I was a teenager in the 70's and was turned on by a high school compadre in 1976. Be Bop Deluxe tunes are some of the best music to flow out onto ourselves and our planet...God Bless You and Thank You Mr. Bill Nelson.
One of my lifetime hero's. Bill Nelson and Be Bop Deluxe!
I love how crisp and clear the sound and video are. Great performances!
Brilliant band with line up of Nelson, Tumahai, Fox and Clarke - Sunburst Finish and Modern Music albums both amazing - saw them live 4 times
Excellent live fresh and interesting
Great guitarist
Go Charlie!
Bill nelson….under-appreciated and not so famous guitar virtuoso………excellent mid 1970’s albums. Progressive in places and became more new-wave with the changing musical landscape back then. Brilliant band. Saw them live in Glasgow. The futurama album is outstanding!!
Bill Nelson...inventive, unique, infectious
Love this band. Under rated and Bill Nelson was a true guitar hero. Last song part of Bill's movement to newer music. I wish he would have kept his band. I know he started up Red Noise soon after.
And now you know why at 67 my spare bedroom is full of wonderful semi acoustic guitars. From a fellow Yorkshireman thanks to Bill ant’ lads for so many great times. P.S, still can’t play owt like you but I have got some of those licks down pat👍🏻.
Bill is , and always be , a genius.
OMG this is such a great video so clear thank you Bruno. Anyone think Bill Nelson is not in the top 10 of best ever guitarist hasn't heard him or BD.
Superb
Great post, great band, great songs, genius Mr Nelson. Largely forgotten how brilliant Be Bop Deluxe were which is such a shame, an incredible run of albums with not a duff track in sight. I treasure my albums and still spin them regularly. Thanks for uploading 🎸
Huge influence on me , was introduced to Bill Nelsons work way back when by one Stuart Adamson - Off The Skids/ Big Country/ Raphaels.
Amazing band, everyone is great!
Ungoldy fab guitar tone in a live setting / tv studio. Bill nelson is outstanding!
Saw them twice at Newcastle City Hall and they were superb 🙌🙌🙌
One of my favourite bands ever. Bill Nelson's guitar playing is underrated.
And he has a great sense of style!
Now I know Prince was a Bill fan.
So were Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads.
damn, that riff into the second verse!
Brilliant band, love it
Awesome! More please.
Saw them twice in the mid 70s... Fantastic band 👍
Never understood why Charlie Tumahai wasn't used more as a lead vocalist in this band, he was a superb vocalist.
So underated, always loved Charlie Tumahi, saw him with Tandoori cassette.
I saw Charlie and Tandoori Cassette at The Brunel Rooms in Swindon. 🤘
Wonderful!
Simon Fox and Charlie Tumahai... Bill lucked out there! 😎👍
Brilliant band, how they never had a bigger following I will never know, just listened to sunburst finish, awesome album
Top notch, saw them on a couple tours.
Amazing guitar! Interesting Songs.
Still have this band's LP's all nicely protected and put away for future generations to enjoy. Amazing musicians and a sound that brings back superb memories of the 1970's....and my long hair.
Ye godz - New Precision is so great! Soo glad to have seen them in this era (1976 - Memorial hall in KC Kansas). Andy is really killing it too!
Fantastic
Fun fact - On "New Precision" here he's wearing a Jean Cocteau sweater - when I saw him open for Santana a billion years ago (touring for the same album) he was wearing a Cocteau Twins t-shirt.
I’m glad that I had discovered this band back in their beginnings! Awesome find! Great talents!
He makes playing the guitar look so easy
Awesome.
Eternally great rock. Thank you Mr. Nelson. Thank you for sharing. Great channel.
Unlisted in the above credits, Mick Close on rhythm guitar.
Oh man those flares!!
Very soon after that he changed to wearing drainpipe corduroys with white baseball boots which was way ahead (nearly everyone was still wearing flares) and I thought looked brilliant. Also, within the same year, 1976, Be- Bop changed their image to the city gents suits (Modern Music) which was very different at the time. But yes, those flares look painful now.
Bill Nelson should be up there with Clapton and co awesome player thanks for posting
懐かしいー😂😂
名曲!
thanks🎉
Bill Nelson is a genius on the guitar and musical composition.
Glasgow appolo and bebop deluxe perfect
Wonderful, thanks for the upload. I was entranced by the "Maid in Heaven" on the OGWT DVD release, but the version of "Fair Exchange" seen here far eclipses that. What an astonishingly tight band they were.
All most like Frank Zappa but much better I think . One of the most underrated bands and guitarists of the time . Just brilliant .
Better than Zappa because……melody, and the brilliantly understated (quintessentially British) manner in which it was performed.
great band. EMI had no idea what they had.
First saw Be+Bop Deluxe support Cockney Rebel at Barnsley Civic Hall, dont ask why as i didnt like CR but Be+Bop were out of this world and the crowd went nuts, when they were going off Bill hit a cord and left his guitar leaning up against his amp the reverb was so loud everyone was just stood up clapping, the roadies ran on stage to literally pull the plug, needless to say they stole the show,1 month later they played the Black Swan in Sheffield on a Sunday night and the plce was crammed to the rafters we only just got in,they were great, that was the start of my love affair with Be+Bop Deluxe got all of their albums and Bills solo album on vinyl before Be+Bop were born and saw them 10 times,ah great band great times,❤
I wish there was a video of Adventures of a Yorkshire Landscape from live in air age.

The greatest guitar solo ever.
@@user-bl5jr5vz6i it's one of my favorites. Jimi's little wing live from the In the west album is up there for me too.
Why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a mystery for the ages....
Cause the RRHoF is run by shameful industry pundits who vote in their " favorites" by gloryfing mostly crap music and groups that sellout to the mighty $ . The fact that BBD isnt in it is a good thing !
Bill Nelson is guitar genius!
The greatest.
A Better Home In The Phantom Zone
The world needs BBD now.
This guy probably had a guitar in his hands 24/7. !
Charlie :)
the late mr "john peel" radio one dj give bbd the big brake the rest is history "john peel" even give bill a invited him to is wedding
Oooh 😎
bill and schenker can you here it
Even the pomp rock bebop deluxe in 1978 sound great. Is that a Yamaha CS80 I can hear?
What kind of amp is Bill playing though??? It sounds fucking amazing!
At this point he was using a pair of 100W Carlsbro amp heads.
I think we found the lost chord.
"Hello, I'm the man with two noses."
Why is nobody telling us who the second guitarist is?
I wonder how many times Charlie has kissed Bill hahahahahaha
Just a few more views and we can get the comments turned-off?
I hope I can find the presence of mind in the New Precision of Terminal Street
and with a Fair Exchange kiss their feet first thing when I get there?
@@bluesmokerH1 - perhaps in the future, when we live in the Air Age.
Great to see and hear...❤ wowwwww . PS I absolutely loved this band... Great to see this restored video ps theres footage of dangerous stranger off drastic plastic. Id love to see that restored to this amazing quality. My hat is off to whoever did this.
Who is the 2nd guitarist here?
Mick Close, a friend of Bill, played rhythm guitar, on the tour, but his part was removed from the Live! In the Air Age album. However, his part was not removed from the CD version of Be Bop Deluxe at the BBC.
@@p.clarke9024 Interesting! I never knew that.
Mod.
There are people who follow music AND know who Be Bop Deluxe is. If you don't then you're a fraud.
Thank you so very much for this!
Who's that second guitarist?
Mick close
