As a Geelong supporter, I have unconditional respect for anyone who still identifies with Fitzroy’s purity and sense of pride. A club battered & bruised, but proud as any other club.

Besides, soccer players are just a bunch of flimsy actors anyway that dive, fake injuries and pretend they've been shot to get free kicks and opposition players carded. The 4 billion people that have jumped on board the soccer bandwagon is because they're too scared of contact sport.
Aussie rules, regardless of popularity, is the best sport in the world and is a real man's game played by men that show no fear and actually play the game, and can actually handle contact, injuries and real tackles

As an Bears fan from Brisbane, I will always have great respect for the Fitzroy Lions in the VAFA and the heritage that the Brisbane Lions now have. I will go to The Royal Derby Hotel in Fitzroy, VIC to pay respects to past players and champions of the club!
Although we didnt win often some of my fondest memories as a kid was belting out this tune with my family after a win.

Fitzroy, along with rugby league's Newtown and Norths, will never be forgotten. Such grand old Australian sporting clubs gone due to commercialism. So sad

As a follower of footy from the U.S., I agree with you one hundred percent, David - I'm one for the Dons, myself, and it does bother me that the Roy Boys are gone; I never want to see another club in the AFL suffer this same fate. Go Roy Boys!

I am a Richmond supporter but I do miss Fitzroy. I like the area itself and I have been up to old Brunswick Street Oval. Its crazy to think back in the old days they would get 20-30K to a match there, where did they all fit?. Its good to see Fitzroy still continue in the lower league's but it isn't the same.
So sad they are gone, like our old Norths and Newtown sides. Fitzroy and Newtown were much alike, battlers who were eventually kicked out. Two great courageous Aussie Sports clubs. Long live Fitzroy and Newtown
Having a banjo in every AFL song just makes perfect sense
The most pure Fitzroy line in this song is “in defeat, we’ll always try”.
It’s beautiful, every other song is singing about how easy they will win the flag every year.
This is the only club song that ever mentioned defeat except for the old Footscray song and it’s beautiful, part of the game and sums up the character of those clubs.

As an Essendon supporter, I really respect Fitzroy and the Brisbane lions. This has to be one of the greatest afl songs
I’m a Blues supporter but what happened to Fitzroy was an absolute disgrace. I hope we never see this happen again. The pain felt by Fitzroy supporters would’ve been unimaginable..
Again, needs to be played once at least during a heritage round in Melbourne. And another year, the Bears song at the Gabba.
I have supported St Kilda since 1966 but always think fondly of Fitzroy.
I named my son after Hadyn Bunton ( the greatest ever player)? and pet dog Fitz (after Fitzroy). Royboys, gone but never forgotten
Flew from Brisbane to experience Brunswick Street Oval. To see where it all began and the old grandstand. Reading the history of the “Maroons” and the crowd of 34,765 in 1923 as the grounds biggest attendance. I’m a proud Brisbane supporter and I’m honoured to have Fitzroy living on with us. 🦁

Even as a young kid, I could see the AFL were desperate to kill off the Fitzroy Football Club.

Came to know this song by watching Jack Irish movies and tv series on Acorn TV. The Guy Pearce character roots for Fitzroy and had a dad who played for them. I love the song and the series.
As a crows supporter Brisbane should use this song to surprise their fans

Soccer players are pussies that fake injuries and dive to get free kicks rather than playing the game < Aussie rules is a real man's sport played by men that aren't scared of being hurt, and can handle real tackles whilst actually playing the game

Trainco16 Here we go again. The old “soccer is for pussies” excuse. Football (yes I call it football) players suffer very horrific injuries too (ankles, Anterior, Medial & Posterior Cruciate, Ligaments, shins, shoulder & concussion to name a few) playing the sport, like any Aussie rules player would. The risk of obtaining an injury of that caliber is incredibly high so that shows the players mustn’t be “pussies” in order to want to go out on the field to play, which automatic disproves your argument once and for all. You’re gonna have to find a better argument than “soccer is for pussies”.
@@Boroman9 maybe, but I'm not someone to spam the same comment on every single video of a certain sport saying that another sport is better. Because that's what this Man United guy does on every AFL video. Personally I don't mind soccer, it's alright, I guess, but I don't go and spam comments saying 'AFL is better' on every soccer video

@@samalvarez7177 I'm 100% certain Declan realizes that! Nothing wrong to still support a club that is no longer in the competition. My next door neighbours still support Fitzroy not Brisbane, which is totally understandable.
Whenever Brisbane wins a grand final not only should they play the current club theme song but also this and the bears old theme songs as well to let the young people know exactly who the 2 teams were before the merge

Playing a historic game for one round in the AFL would be nice. Everyone wears their old uniforms, and, if they renamed, plays as their old teams. You could split Brissy into Fitzy and Bears, but you could also just make it Fitzy OR Bears. Might change it around every year.
Also gives Freo a chance to show off that they were the only team with green on their guernseys.
@@bearmarco1944 They used to have it, but everyone saw it as a gimmick. it would be way too hard for some teams too. Port don’t have much to wear outside of the prison bars which they can’t wear, Carlton have had the same guernsey for over 100 years, and the Suns and Giants would have nothing to wear.
@@thinhnonyt Historical roubd can have those teams use their old AFL teams. Carlton stays there, Giants and Suns can use their old uniforms (they have made one edit each), and Port can use their leaf or lightning.

It was very sad when Fitzroy had folded and merged with Brisbane Bears to become Brisbane lions. Fitzroy Lions will live with our memories for the rest of our lives.

I haven't got the slightest interest in football or the AFL. I was forced to play it at school and had no choice about it at all. However, this old team's demise makes me a bit sentimental. Miss the way Melbourne used to be.

So when the bears and lions combined they kept the lions theme song but change the lyrics
imagine if the brisbane lions kept their theme song like this but with only a few obvious changes like substitute fitzroy with brisbane and change "wear the colors maroon and blue" to "wear the maroon gold and blue" and change "and we'll always see it through" with "like fitzroy and bears of old" like the current version but with this tune

@@Podgorski37 at this stage, they have been useless, especially Gold Coast. By this point in time, port Adelaide had played in 2 grand finals, winning one of them. These teams are in places where no one cares about football, even with the Swans in Sydney and the lions in qld. In Tasmania, there is a much better football culture for sure, and putting a team there would be much more worthwhile
