- In this video, you see me as a Dovahkiin in SKYRIM with the VIRTUALIZER, the OCULUS RIFT and a WII MOTE. And again my brain decoupled from reality and i was in the world of Skyrim. It was an amazing experience to interact in that beautiful environment.
The Virtualizer is an omnidirectional treadmill for virtual reality that delivers completely new impressions and experiences regarding gameplay and entertainment.

TrenchCoat Dingo Not sure how exausting it rly is, but it does not look like its the same amount of effort as actual running - he just kind of drags his feet across this very slippery surfice in oppose to driving his body forward during actual running. Yeah, sure - you will burn some more calories than M&K but dont bullshit yourself that this is real cardio :)

I built a simple version of this using head bob from the rift to walk...
I got tired walking from one end of Blood Gulch from Halo 1 to the other.
Maybe that gives some idea of how fit and badass our game characters really are!

But giant spiders which try to kill you REALLY creep me out. To the point where I will never play minecraft on any mode other than peaceful.
Interesting. That is usually opposite. Do you think that you are just generally more immersed in games?
I don't know. Perhaps it is because spiders in video games are designed to be fearsome and frightening. But the other part is player interactivity, the fact that it is attacking you and not someone else. For example I had pretty much no problems watching "Return of the King". In this case, the distinction between films and games, I think immersion does count. And in VR... No. I don't want to think about it.
my thoughts:
- hardcore-nerds will be veeery fit in the future
- new game: "guess what he/her is playing". just by watching the player.
- real immersion should give you a light electric shock, when get damage

Younggrasshoppa Dunno. Imagine running from the other end of the map to the other, within DayZ. It may very well take more than an hour to reach the other side of the map. In the future, you can go jogging within Chernarus. Or some other game with huge map. Will most definitely be a workout.

Not tasers, you hook those sticky TENS unit patches to different sections of yourself and get shocked in the appropriate places in a more sustainable way when you get hit.

Julian Burkert I get what you mean xD. But when did I say graphical mods? Skyrim without mods just feels clumsy to me and a big part of the game is about immersion, so making it more real in all ascpects makes the game better in my opinion. It just makes roleplaying easier.

Julian Burkert Yes, it feels clumsy to me. You we're partly right though. Some of the mods I'm 'missing' are graphical, but most of them aren't.
I heard that the oculus rift needs some kind of mod tool that blocks off the other mods. I'm not sure if it is like that, but that'd explain it.

All I'm waiting for is physics based damage, and having the wii remote directly correspond to the handle of the blade. That way if you're stronger Irl, and can swing the remote faster, you can do more damage. AKA real stamina usage for power attacks.
EnragedBarrothGaming take a look at a game still in development called Overgrowth, its damage system is based on skeletal structures inside the models. in the version i got to try the harder i slid the mouse to throw out my attack(within reason for a mouse on a desk), the harder my avatar swung his fist or his leg. it seems like that's in the same category as what you described. if that were to become mixed with something like this virtualizer, oh man, the possibilities.
(oh and don't get put off if Overgrowth looks furry-ish at first glance, I believe the dev lives in austrailia and was originally planning on using regular people, but was informed that his game would be censored if it portrayed the violence it does between humans. so he just made em all rabbits... *shrugs*)

I used to wonder why people where so obsessed with SAO and the release of the Rift... Until yesterday.... when i watched all of SAO.... Now i can't wait until 2022.
I predict that saos style of vr will be here in 20 years, We need to find a way link the processes of the cortex (the part of the brain that makes you think) to a cpu that can process those thoughts into a program, the problem is that we need to do this without the use of surgery. also we do not understand the brain as in depth as we need to.

Kaleolani Mataoa um, no. Not even close. Friction is a force which resists the relative motion of an elemental substance throughout all the states of matter ( a stopping force). Traction is a measure of grip, when looking at traction you look at an objects ability to form a temporary physical bond between two surfaces ( when an object holds onto another and doesn't move ). In this case we're looking at the socks resistant force across the surface of the pad ( Friction ). Go back to physics class.

I wonder If there ever is going to be a game that needs you to do the full movement. Like if you run you will move at equivalent speed in game. This would I find higely interesting since it could combine training with gaming. Even more awesome would be a combo with a exoskeleton that would measure your physical power and stop your movements when the virtual sword hits the enemys armor. In single player you then could tweak the settings so that you can continue gaming once you run out of stamina or that the power needed to move virtual objects is lowered. Imagine Gamers actually beeing at good physical health!
You could also make simulated boxing fights with your friends without suffering actual damage. The strenght of your muscles would be measured and thereby your capability to take hits processed. In game the damage would make it harder to move the exoskeleton or block certain body movements entirely like when your oponent shoots your legs or breaks them with an awesome punch.
