Although I have done minor repairs on a few few diamonds I do not have the equipment or the knowledge to cut diamond. It would be nice to try it sometime.

Hi, I really want to get into faceting gems. This series is the best I've seen so far. The diagram shows angle 44.1 for the first cuts. How do you find that mark on the protractor. I may have missed that explanation on an earlier video. Ill go look again. Great job.

Same concept, just a more primitive approach and it took much, much longer. I'm sure if you google searched it, you could find that information!

What a beautiful craft! And beautiful machinery at that! That faceting machine is a wonderful piece of engineering and looks like a joy to use. I've never thought twice about how jewels were cut, so this is fascinating and makes perfect sense. I would love to take this up at some point. It seems incredibly enjoyable. Steve seems like a great guy and I very much appreciate his, and everyone else's effort in putting together such a thorough and enjoyable series!

The mast and the faceting head. Is that what you are asking? Our website won't have any information on faceting machines or cutting. It is our online retail store where we sell our faceted gemstones and custom designed jewelry.

Steve, I notice you use a rag to wipe the stone when inspecting the stone. How do you deal with cross contamination? Do you chuck it after each grit grade, wash it or what?
Good point, that is something we did not mention! Yes, we use a different rag with each step.
Do you chuck them or wash them and reuse? I ask because I was wondering if after washing it is good enough so you don't care which grit once clean, or you still have to make sure you use the rag for the same grit, just in case.
Either one would probably work, we usually just throw them out.

Well these videos should give you a pretty good idea of how it's done. You can pick up a couple books we recommend and start faceting! That is an Imperial “ alpha Taurus “. No longer built. I will have this machine for sale in the next month. I currently use an ultra tec v5.
I have a digital arm that I just bought but I can’t figure out how to get it to zero it says nothing about it in the instructions. I should probably call up the company.
What would you suggest be a good I mean I’m just a beginner. I do have a fastening machine already. It’s one of those $250 ones that I bought off of eBay I mean it works good for me you know but as I get better, I wanna get better machinery, so I can have better gemstones what would you suggest?

Steve's favorites include Malaya garnet, Tanzanite (because he gets to go to the mines and loves seening the results from heating the diesil color to the beautiful violet/blue color they turn into), and the newly found Ethiopian Opal. How about you *Austin? What is your favorite?

Hey Robert, try headphones or different speakers. The audio in this series was not the greatest, as it was our first attempt to make an instructional video and can be difficult to hear if the speakers you're using aren't loud enough. We will be doing another soon with Steve cutting a large natural colored blue topaz from Brazil and will have improved audio.
