We little kids in the early 70s were going to school with this tune in our heads, making new friends who looked different from us. It was a new era!

The song was written as a response to a Supreme Court ruling that said school segregation was illegal

This was sang at every nursery school ❤ with lots of cultural influences on tv and in music people were getting to know each other. We really were as a society coming along nicely . Heavy sigh ☮️

The 1970s was a time with the help of the 60s where we were seeing less and less of the race divide. Three Dog Night did this one, Paul McCartney did Ebony and Ivory, Michael Jackson did Black or White. Quite frankly, I don't know what the hell happened after the 80s, the progression stopped and it all fell apart.

The internet , the gangster rap culture happening at the same time crack epidemic happened scared the hell out people. Politicians used it to divide us . This divide was on purpose

This is a reworking of a Pete Seger song from 1955 or 1956 about the Supreme Court’s decision ending school segregation.

I love this song....reminds me that we have not come very far. I was optimistic in the 70s....love and peace and now it's a world of greed and war...so sad.

This is so happy and i LOVE IT. I saw them in concert just a few years ago--they've lost nothing in the ensuing years. This is nothing to the live version. Oh wth, every version is great. :) Those were wonderful days of civil rights

Always thought there is just a bit of a French accent when they sing "Liberty!". An anthem of the times for sure. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure my brother had the same shirt. I also remember putting embroidery on my jeans. Those were great years.

This was my first album. I was 5 or 6 yo. I wanted The Beatles 'Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. My mother drove me around to a bunch of record stores... all sold out. At the last one she said to wait in the car. She came out of the store with this Three Dog Night album and said... This is what you're getting. The end. 😂

Note the absence of Chuck Negron.

Not sure which of their hits were the biggest, but this was one of the bigger ones in my recollection. The lyrics are simple, the music is catchy, and it's easy to sing along to.

I grew up in this era and this band at the time was one of the most successful with number of hits they had. Yet unless you grew up then you probably never heard of them like the others with similar success

Great reaction, but I have to admit I'm puzzled by the video. There were 7 members of the original configuration of the band, including notably 3 lead singers. In this video, I kept asking "Where's Chuck Negron?" I hope one of the other commenters knows.

    • @rhiahlMT
      @rhiahlMT 18 часов назад +2

I'm not sure where Negron was when they did this. I know he faced some drug problems and left the band before it broke up circa 1976/77. He toured with them in the 1980s and hasn't toured with them since. Wells died in 2015.

The whole vibe of the sixties was unity. The younger generation was sick of the divisiveness of the older generation. Song like this showcased that unity. Unfortunately what also was being ushered in was the beginnings of identity politics by the late 80's and early 90's. The thought that your 'cultural' identity was more important than any allegiance to peace and brotherhood. That and the understanding by the elites that there were many benefits to keeping the cultural divide alive, if we're fighting each other we're not opposing the government.

Just goes to show all people need each other. I'm white, but have such a lot of genetic influences in my gene pool. If I was a dog i'd be a mutt. I do have beautifully tanned relatives, how silly to hate them! They didn't have a choice, neither did I, I have horrible skin that gives me cancers. Genetic differences are a case of gene pooling, we are all really brothers and sisters. We are not different species, race is a lie, by old fogies who didn't know any better and were suspicious and frightened of differences they didn't understand. Have a great life!

Now that modern science has mapped the human genome we have proven beyond all doubt for everyone to see and understand that all people on Earth share 99.9% of their DNA with each other. Knowing that, I don't put much faith in making judgements by how any person looks or dresses, the car that they drive, (or don't drive), or by how much $$$ they say they possess. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that matters to me about *anyone* I happen to meet is the quality of the thoughts that exist between their ears and the spirit of kindness that lives in their hearts.
To me, that's all that matters.
