Dr. Scher is a fantastic interviewer: asking most relevant, to the point questions, giving enough time for in depth answers without interrupting, summing the answers up in a very intelligent and concise way. -
Love to listen to your interviews, - Dr. Scher. Thank you very much for your very educational and helpful work!
Yes, Dr Bret is fine tuned.. and a fantastic interviewer.. He and Dr Andreas are.. among the , if not the BEST!!

Totally agreed!!!! The interviewing technique is so fantastic. The follow-up questions are always spots on!!!
I agree 💯! He is an amazing and very skilled interviewer.!
I too was thinking the same thing as I listened to Dr. Scher’s interview style. I love the way he sums up each experts statements making it so much easier for me to hear and understand. Thank you Dr. Scher! I learned something new from each of these interviews today.
I completely agree, he somehow knows all the questions I would have and some I never knew I had!
I really up my protein intake significantly and helped me alot. At the beginning of my keto journey about 6 years ago, it was mostly fat and alittle bit of protein. At 4 year mark of keto, decided to increase protein consumption due to weight stall and that did a trick.
Love How I eat these days. Normally I eat ribeye and 5 eggs. I am a 49 year old female and my muscle mass is unbelievable. Flat belly is a bonus.
How much protein do you now eat? Sounds like you might be carnivore...
@@MsTony1402 Honestly I really don’t count my macros. Not 100% carnivore but more like ketovore. However, I rarely eat green veggies. Occasionally eat cabbage, kimchi, etc and cut out most of nuts. One thing I really noticed was that when I started to eat mostly meat, I felt like I was gaining weight at the beginning, but I kept on eating more meat until I really full. A few weeks later, I couldn’t no longer to eat that much of meat as I used to at the beginning. From this time on, I started to loose extra fat I wanted to loose and gained lean muscles.
Most of time, one is really just perfect. Try it. Its really fun.
Never tire of steak and eggs. Forgive the pun but I could eat this 'til the cows come home

@Review Master Hi!
I'm a 76 year old female & am, just within the past year, entering the world of keto, intermittent fasting & the carnivore diet -
Interested in regaining muscle mass, strength in the limbs, shoulders, tummy & back, and with developing a practice of mindfulness of my posture both sitting & standing!..
I research nutrition and food science-
(interested since I was 16, choosing the producing of English term paper, with references, on VITAMINS AND MINERALS),
So that NOW I may intelligently make new choices to reverse the aging process:
-Meaning, learning the foods and spices that support proper cell DNA regrowth as well as cleaning up the dead cell dibris..
For several years, my primary focus has been on brain-health, which includes certain amino acids & nutritional supplements
(vit D & magnesium, of primary significance)..
Over time, how we have eaten, often resulting in nutrient deficiencies, shows up in our normal bodily & brain functioning-
as we begin to notice some 'haywire' shenanigans going on inside us-
where, by our innocence, we've been unaware that our health issues, beginning to pop up, are primarily & simply the results from our food choices over the years!!
(not to omit industrial poisoning)..
Then, there are folks like YOU, REVIEW MASTER-
with perfect health markers, at your current age, with the diet you've chosen to support your health..
-YOU, obviously having been born with a 'highly intuitive brain-body connection' which has guided your food choices, throughout the decades!-
& 'more importantly' & what I'm 'most impressed' by & 'proud of you' for is that you've avoided the hype!
-You've obviously always
'Marched by a Different Drummer'!
I can't see your post, while responding, yet I deeply appreciate your sharing your routine & how your food consumption was naturally reduced, to normalize your nutritional requirements-
since no longer engaging in activities that required a much heavier load of protein, fat-
& with the fewer carbs, since you were aware that more would stifle your boby-buiding goals, were they to be increased !
I will return to your post, as I wish to note you boby-buiding diet with 24 eggs a day, & the other goodies!
-as well as the reduction when your body no longer required the same quantity, from the change in goals..
Thank you for your heart and willingness to take the time to share!
♥️
PS - I'm 5'3' @ consistently 97# with clothes on, at the Dr's ofc.. Lol..
When 18 yrs old, I created a 2x day exercise routine, to sculpt my body for entering a local, Odessa, beauty pagent, Miss West Texas-
prerequisite for the Miss Texas pagent - 1963
My beginning & ending stats were
from:
122# to 112, then 107#;
from:
38" bust, 24" waist, 38" hips
to:
35-19-35
1st 2 wks I lost 10#, then I had to tone the excess flab into muscle, over another month or so -
I did win Miss West Texas & participated in the Miss Texas pagent..
The diet I created, in high school:
-Breakfast, most likely eggs-
-Lunch, home from scheel,
V8 juice w wheat germ
(would never do that today,
cuz I've learned better)-
-I'd drive to corner restaurant, for a dinner salad
(adding salt, pepper & lemon juice)-
-an egg custard pie, leaving the crust!
Home from school, for dinner:
-absolutely no starch
(even when family was having potatoes and bread or pasta)!
-steamed veggies
-meat of all sorts, including organs:
--tongue, heart, liver, etc
-chicken, fish, eggs..
I'm returning to the reduction of certain carbs & learning the physiological harm from:
-lectins & oxalates..
It's a process, since many scientific studies are showing how best to support the body and brain
😃🙃🙂😉
I'm interested in developing myself as a qualified 'fitness coach'-
to guide other older folks in optimizing 'our bodies' capability for transforming from 'failing health'
to noticeable 'strength & endurance'-
for an optimal quality of life,
for the rest of 'our' years,
left on Planet Earth
Cheers!
Love this channel! I've been following a keto strategy for a year now and I 'm back to my college-age weight. It's been a cinch to maintain. Now I'm working on regaining the fitness level I enjoyed when I took barre classes. Never felt this good and I just turned 69!
Good to hear that Keto is life changing at 69, I just turned 41 and I’ve been eating a carnivore diet 95% of the time and feel incredible. Congrats, keep it up
Go, meg, go!! BW
@@gabrieltorres5732 I tuned 41 in March, and I too love high protein diet. It's always felt better to me to eat more protein, but now I'm making more of a conscious effort to focus on it. It's never too late for any of us. Well done us! :D
I turned 60 this year and also moved to a HFLC diet and time restricted eating, often only having one meal a day. I also started cold showers a year ago and sea swimming since my birthday in April.. I feel so much better. Lost 24 lbs quickly and hope to eventually lose another 16 then I will be back at the weight I was before menopause. Best thing about cold showers is my skin being less dry and feeling a lot more resilient. Best thing about a HFLC diet is the food 😃. I have always loved fatty foods and used to feel sad I had to avoid eating them for health reasons. Now I can eat them for health reasons. I have steak, cream, full fat live yogurt, lashings of butter. Avocados and cheese are diet staples. I am in food heaven, almost never feel hungry, sleeping so much better, loosing weight and have masses of energy. Wish I had always known what I know now.
It’s great to hear what has worked for others.
@@Zill7711 I've been doing 18/6 for about 6 weeks and low carb. I have a lot of joint pain and hoping the time restricted eating will help with those symptoms. I'm losing weight slowly and have far to go. I struggle to eat enough protein though, even though I've always been a meat lover, I really only want to eat a moderate amount of food during the 6 hours but have lots of hunger later.
What has been the most enlightening realization during my discovery of low carb life, is how nutritious animal products are. I always saw them as just “protein” building blocks. But to receive the level of satiety AND nutrition benefit is ten-fold. I had never thought to become someone who eats sardines for bfast, but here we are 😅
Haha yes! I love how satiating meat is. I was a misled vegetarian for years, and I was missing out on such contentment. Never thought I’d be a steak girl, but here we are 👍🏻 thriving!
I heard you, I ate cod liver and steak for the breakfast :-))
I'm having sardines every two or three weeks now also. I just started that about a year ago.
I always forget about sardines!
@@TheFrankHummer I often have a tin of sardines for 1st of 2 meals per day. I add salt and a bit of AcV. Try to get it in sild oil (sardine oil) but hard to find. But in olive oil is next best. Great for calcium with the bones in. Plus the omega 3.
The problem i have with Keto is the amount of oxalates in the nuts and veggies. I am carnivore, after transitioning into Keto for 3 years, after being a vegan and becoming very sick and battling kidney stones and tumors on the bottom of my feet and having a hysterectomy. I now have adapted from Keto to carnivore and this show today has helped me into eating the proper amount of protein vice my ideal weight. I appreciate the information!

@@SharonFoster852 not to mention that if you elliminated table salt out of your diet, pink salts etc do not have iodine either!! huge concern in this community and doesn't get spoken about enough!!
@@anamaediazendara2465 are you wondering about if keto caused thyroid issues? often thyroid issues will be reduced as those hormones are in full swing because of eating sugar. When sugar is decreased and ketones are used, then we dont need as much T3! there is a really good video explaining how the GI tract and thyroid are connected. Bile as well is connected to the thyroid-- its an antiobesigenic-- crazy that I read that in a published journal!!
@@dana102083 I was referring to the over consumption of cruciferous vegetables. I have read it can affect thyroid
I consider myself on keto AND never eat anything vegetal. Lost 20 kilos in 6 months so far
I love this! In the 3 years of low carb, I've never been able to keep my protein "moderate ".
I'm a woman in my mid 50's, and no matter how much fat I added, I couldn't get the satiety everyone talked about without increasing the protein.
There are two aspects of satiety and this rarely gets discussed. I'm mid 60s and I find if I eat high protein with moderate fat, I have to stop eating sooner (immediate satiety) but it doesn't last as long as if i eat moderate protein with more fat (lasting satiety). If you dont define what your talking about and just splash around 'satiety', it erodes your credibility
Don’t forget sometimes your body just needs fluids and actually hungry for that. I drink plenty before and after eating not during. Makes a world of difference.
@@joolds-ruppel1846 Good point. I drink tons of water so when I'm hungry for food, I know without doubt that I'm hungry for food. It feels really good as I truly enjoy the process of eating because I know it's what my body really wants at that moment. It makes a hell of a difference.
What are protein requirements?????
@@peterpetino9590 It depends on how active you are and what your goals are. My current weight is 132 lbs which is around my goal weight. 132 lbs = 60 kg. They are talking about eating 2×your kg goal weight. For me that means 120 gr of actual protein. I am trying currently to build muscle so I set my goal a bit higher than that.
Yes. I like this balance. Getting past fat-phobia is a good thing but there is no nutritional benefit to "butter chugging". I lost a total of 60lbs, the first 30 on keto and the last 30 on carnivore. The difference was that the keto loss was me fighting for every pound while the carnivore loss just fell off.
Also as someone who had a seizure disorder for 35 years, I am of the opinion that being in ketosis matters but chasing higher numbers on the ketone meter does not even in the extreme case of epilepsy. Keto (very strict 4:1) led to an improvement in my epilepsy. Total carnivore where I don't measure or weigh anything or stress over macro ratios led to my seizures being gone. Not better, totally gone.
So happy for you!
@@dreamingrightnow1174 Thank you. It really is like having a whole new life. I am 4/5ths of the way off of the medication I was taking. Still working on that last 1/5th. Those meds can have horrible side effects like osteoporosis.

Fabulous. Good on you! 😍 🐂
That's fantastic, well done. I transitioned to Carnivore after losing 6 kilos in two months on LCHF. I was concerned that as a 55 yr old woman I was not getting enough protein. I am now getting back the body I had as a young gymnast. My waist is shrinking but it is nothing compared to my husband who has followed me on my journey - he went from having a small beer gut in December to now having a near six pack with no exercise except his normal day job of farming! @@cearilindubhlaoi9507 diet doctor.com has lots of good info around protein. I work on trying to get 1.2 - 2 grams of protein per kilo of ideal body weight. So I was 68 kilos but should be around 60 k or under so I work from that. Fat is harder for us as most of the meat we produce on our farm (in New Zealand) is 100% grass fed so is quite lean. I add quite a bit of butter to my meat and eggs as we are so fortunate in this country to only have grass fed dairy too with all the wonderful fat able vitamins.
@@bridgetjones2156 how do you get so little as 1.5 grams? I get 2.5 -3 but I am not eating even chicken that much, If I do its 300 gram which is over 4 grams / bodyweight. Either the recommendations are wrong because when you eat wholefood you get much more than 1.5 g / bodyweight or something else is wrong.
As a woman, it’s nice to get advice from women who understand how our bodies work. Great interviews, thank you!
She’s wrong about fat.
Diet Doctor is simply the best source of information...!!!
I live in New Zealand and get such a lot of great info from watching yr videos that helps me heaps. Im a woman coming up 64yrs, feeling strong not on any medication. A lot of friends around my age sadly are sick or getting sick. Its such a shame, they don't want to know about this healthy way of eating at the moment. Im grateful for u and the keto lifestyle u overwhelmingly promote. Thank u so much 💓
Kia ora, keep up the good work Anne. 🙂
Hi Anne, I am the same age, no meds, keto has improved my life in a big way! My sisters do not want to change or hear about it. Both are younger than me, MUCH heavier, on meds and unhealthy :(. As the oldest I fear I will be the last one standing. So sad to watch them add meds and feel horrible.
I could listen to Dr. Scher talk forever! I found his voice so soothing. I really appreciate this recording. Specifically something that Franziska said - to fatten cows they reduce the protein in the feed so that they eat more, to slim them down they up the protein content of the feed. My mind was blown! This totally resonated with my husband who grew up caring for cows.
People keep writing eat fat for satiety but I never feel satiated fat.I feel good upping my protein.
Protein is definitely king
Probably safer to focus on protein as well. Especially if you have the APOE4 gene.
But lean protein doesn't do it for me wrt to satiety. I have to make sure I have enough fat to control hunger
@@cassieoz1702 I agree. but people are childish and like to argue. Truth is an egg is about 2/3 fat 1/3 protein. As long as you eat high protein foods like beef, fish, chicken(including skin) even dairy, you'll get your protein and fat.
Fat works for a short bit for me...but definitely protein is sooo satisfying!
Thank you for (yet again) producing very high quality & objective content. I’m a physiologist by training and yet it has been Diet Doctor that has helped me understand that it’s insulin that has hindered my weight loss efforts in the past. 3 months in to a ketogenic diet I’m now off blood pressure medication and down 26 pounds. Just another "Food Club"
Wonderful podcast, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I did keto for 2months and lost no weight but I adjusted to a protein-heavy diet (about 150-170g of protein) a day and boom - WEIGHTLOSS!!! Thank you for helping to validate things as I'm only 6months into my journey and still learning. As an over 40 women, I definitely saw that the standard high-fat approach to keto isn't a good fit for all of us. AMAZING PODCAST!!!!
Are you carnivore then? I've never been able to eat even 100 gr of protein, it's just too filling on a time restricted diet. Have you noticed constipation issues?
@@dreamingrightnow1174 I bounce between Carnivore and Ketovore so I'm heavily meat based. I can't eat plain meat, I preferred bbq'd meat so I grill frequently and I have no problem eating a lot of it. I also eat a lot of fish and 4-eggs each day. I use Primal Kitchen sauces, Organic Italian Seasonings or Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning on the meats to make sure they're tasty (not butter&salt... ugh). I use oil from sun-dried tomatoes on the fish to keep it tasty. So breakfast/lunch may be 4eggs and 10z-Steak and dinner 12oz-Jerk Pork and 4-chicken drumsticks (or 4-cup salad instead of chicken with bacon&parmesan cheese).
I had diarrhea for quite a while (which meant my metabolism was worst than most people because constipation is normal) but I now take Berberine HCL and it fixed the issues. I take 1capsule (500mg) at each meal. Hope this helps and best of luck!
Can you do a video for Keto over 60 or even 70? I have parents and aunts and uncles who would benefit from understanding distinctions and adjustments for age differences utilizing low carb, and realistic expectations with regard to weight loss and muscle growth. Any real life success stories in this age group with BEFORE and AFTERS?
as an 80 y/o I am very interested in your suggestion/question.
I'd say the same thing for all is truly what they need as well. Hitting protein goals each day can be so difficult, and if its fatty protein with skin on bone, great. If chewing issues or swallowing problems, ground beef can be mixed with a cauliflower puree for example. Protein should be the center of attention and then eating enough fat that fits the needs (if wanting to maintain weight, you need to add fat from day 1. If fat is cut back, weight loss will usually occur. When the insulin lowers in the beginning, weight loss is sometimes inevitable due to water weight. Truly the risk in this category of humans is the medications they are on, and ensuring they have a knowledgable practitioner reviewing, and educating the patient of these changes and regular monitoring and re-assessment of symptoms and medication-- of course anticipating trouble is important to prepare ahead! I have an easy rule of thumb for protein. Take your suggested ideal weight for your height in Kilograms and that is the absolute minimum to get protein for the day. It can be a challenge for all of us and I've certainly adjusted my plate to be more meat heavy due to this as well. Even at maintenance now, I notice a huge impact if I add more veggies and I get bloated and often hungrier too!! I hope that was helpful in some way. I have a facebook group called "Keto for Chronic Disease Management" to help those seeking health and committed to finding the way with keto. I'm more than happy to help, everything is categorized into the issues they help with, keeping to clean eating and sticking to the goals. I manage my own genetic disorder with Keto and know how beneficial it is that I can notice every single day!! I'm always willing to answer questions you may have :)

I've been following Keto for 5 years (Dr. Einfeldt's video convinced me then and now). Recently I have noticed a creeping up of my weight. I decided to try increasing my protein, and already see a nice change in the scales, though i now need to eat more often. In the process, I also cut out the extra butter/cream I had added to my diet. All 3 presenters were great, and I learned from all! THANK YOU for updating and keeping us healthy!!!
With the respect to the US designers, now I see from where the diet doctor's impeccable website aesthetic is coming! Thank you for introducing us to Mr. Andreas and of course these two ladies. 💙
And thank you for addressing the importance of protein. Sardines, mackerel, salmon, anchovies, hake, occasionally tuna... don't forget the seafood, we eat here in the Mediterranean.🌞
Always eat chicken with the skin on, but the chicken breast no matter how much butter/olive oil I add, it's somewhat tasteless and dry. In my 33 years, I'm eating 2g ish of protein still I'm healthy skinny.
I got a meat thermometer and realized I had been over cooking my chicken breast.
Its a game changer.
Definitely have found that when I prioritize protein and keep my carbs below 20 grams net I can maintain my weight loss. Great presentation!

I was a home health aid for many years. I now have my own cleaning business and clean for the elderly. Most of my clients arw in their 80s. Biggest health issues they have are falling, diabetes. I'm very close to these elderly clients and we talk. I've asked about their eating plans...as I care for them. They all 100 percent of them eat very little protein, hence I feel they are feeling weak, low muscle tone etc....and eating high sugar content foods. I share what I can about my own story, hoping they will consider eating more protein, keto type foods. They have witnessed my transformation so this isnt hard to do, but most are stuck in their ways sadly.
Most of the nursing homes stick to the recommended diet plan, which is carbs, carbs, carbs, and they are cheap and easy.
But even elderly at home on pensions are looking for cheap and easy. Carbs are cheap. sugar, cakes, biscuits are easy and cheap to supply. Sandwiches are cheap and easy. Mashed potato, pasta, bread, rice, breakfast cereal, all cheap and easy.
How many people do we see go downhill fast when they enter a nursing home? particularly with Alzheimer, being given constant sugar fixes all day.

I started Keto by accident and had to research what this was as most carbs made me sick to my stomach all of a sudden. I lost 20# right away and another 30# doing keto. Then I switched to keto-carnivore, but mostly carnivore and am amazed at how well I feel, the increase of metabolic health, and the muscle I am able to build as I am soon to be 67. This has completely modified my tastebuds. I do not crave anything and love the ease of cooking. Glad to hear DD is increasing protein with good results and look forward to where this leads. Great job.
I always advise: take at look at people's skin to tell whether they are eating enough protein - does it appear healthy? Skin has one of the fastest cell turnovers in the body with significant amino acid requirements - it's a perfect and obvious "barometer" of adequate/optimum protein intake.
Funny, I think the same about fat. Remember that thing kids used to do - - hold a yellow flower under your chin and say "you like butter!" if the yellow reflected off the skin. Probably for elastic skin you need collagen, for soft unwrinkled skin you need fat, and for all the rest, protein. Those skinny low-fat vegan types often tend to have poor skin, I think.

I enjoyed Andreas' Twitter challenge a few weeks ago where he asked people to speculate on how he lost 10 lbs and 2 inches on his waist over 2 months. I never watch. I just put my earbuds in and listen and relax.
Excellent as usual. So informative and practically helpful. Thanks!
What a wonderful discussion and awesome compilation of experts! Thank you!
Great interview! I've learned lot and it cleared some things up. Thank you!
I’m going to up my protein a little bit and see if I can break the plateau I’ve been on. This was a fantastic Podcast, thank you.
Did you increase your protein? Did it break the plateau?
@@binathere2574 I did but I’m still stuck. I think I might need to vary my IF times more.
💛Brilliant, kind and humble doctor Andreas!! , the style you have created on the diet doctor website and keto recipees made in short videos have provided a New beginning for me at 64. I am leaving behind 20 years of diabetes. For someone who drag themselves around because of fatigue, the fresh communication style of the visual guide on what to eat made visual and the inspiring recipees empowered me to take those two first weeks and on it goes. God bless you allways for your service to human health
wow. this is a change of thinking for me. and one I like the sound of.
Ive always wanted more protein, now I can without feeling worried. ty ty ty
Now that I've reached my healthy weight, I have decided to increase my protein intake. This discussion has answered many remaining questions that I had...thank you!
Thank you for these discussions. I am a 55 year old female, this does offer challenges when it comes to an eating style!! I have found success lowering carbs! Definitely open to experiment with protein and fat levels. THANK YOU!
Many zero carb carnivores only like lean cuts of steaks.the fat is a myth
@@davidrodgers4760 Not sure I understand the fat myth part your comment...?
@@raewise6345 nothing to understand. If you like fat eat it if you don't just eat lean meats.period.dont buy into the myth you need fatty meats on zero carb carnivore or salt or any supplements. All bogus myths .kapeesh. got it.
@@davidrodgers4760 Ahh. I see what you mean. Thx☮️
I really hit my sweet spot when I went carnivore in January of 2018. Now I never eat less than 1.5 lbs of meat (sometimes with fish and eggs) a day. I'm a 57 YO female with a bone density T-score of +1.7, living with Parkinson's Disease. Disease progression stopped with keto (starting 2016) and feel my absolute best on carnivore. So grateful for these podcasts shedding light on the failings of the SAD diets and the horrific government dietary guidelines!
Thank you for some great interviews all compiled into one video. A lot of great information and tips for us all.
Thank you for your videos - very informative and helpful.
I've been eating very low carb with IF for 17 months - massive benefits.
My protein intake has been higher than what keto prescribes since the beginning.
When my body fat goes below 8-10% I do feel more hungry and also feel a bit cold towards the beginning of eating time.
I eat the same things every day doing IF 20/4 and I guess I'm lucky that I am happy eating this way and will stay with this way of doing it for good.
Mostly an omelette with mushrooms, ham and cheese followed by some fish or meat a bit later and finally some yoghurt with a few nuts or berries. Keeping carbs under 20g almost always.
I drink a glass of champagne at birthdays and anniversaries - otherwise no alcohol for the last 18 months either - good decision, even easier to keep up than cutting carbs.
I started intermittent fasting at the same time as I stopped eating carbs. In the beginning 16/8. Over time 20/4 has established itself as an easy and suitable eating frequency for me.
The most amazing about this is the amount of time saved and the scheduling flexibility gained.
Health-wise: at 5´11" Starting weight 87kg, after first month 75kg, after three months 63kg and stable after that. Waist from 33" to 25". BP medicine no longer needed, fasting blood glucose level stable in low normal range, low triglycerides, high hdl, etc etc.
Great.im carnivore 2 yrs.dont like the myth of fat.i don't like fatty steaks or fat caps.at least 50% longtime zero carb carnivores also only like lean cuts of steaks.i still
Have sadly carnivore loose stools,no salt no supplements. And got hives.never before eating carnivore
Fantastic session. As a long term Keto fan it has been unusual to consider a higher protein intake. I’m finding the change enjoyable and my training regime has also improved. The main thing I have noticed is ketones have dropped substantially in comparison to my long term levels of .5-2.0. I feel the nutritional value of the increased protein levels is more beneficial than just seeing a ketone number each day. Blood sugar levels have stayed at the same levels of 4.5-5.0.
Great information and timely video for me. The focus on greater protein intake has had a positive affect on my weight loss effort. Along with data driven fasting, I’m making excellent progress. Thanks for the video Doc.
Nice to see Andreas. He's been MIA for a while. I HATE eating breakfast and have been bullied into it by RDs all my life. This WoE finally gave me permission to skip breakfast
So informative, one of the best of this type of videos I have ever seen. Thank you.
This was an awesome podcast! Kept me focused the whole time. I think this podcast is in my top 5 of all-time-favs. Great interviews and such useful information. Thank you 😊
Excellent view and very smart people! Thanks.
Such valuable information. Great, succinct way to put everything together.
My observation has been that the more metabolically unhealthy and the fatter someone is, the more important it is to keep dietary fat high and protein moderate. Once someone becomes more metabolically healthy and at a healthy weight, the better it is to increase protein and moderate the fat.
Thank you. This made so much way more clear for me. I can now plot a course forward confidently. I discovered on my own that I need higher protein. I exercise a lot, and include some weight lifting. I am 73 years old and am very interested in health span.
This podcast was very encouraging. I have been with diet doctor since May 30, 2021. The tip about being careful about too much fat and utilizing more protein was vey helpful!!! Thank you!!!
This was an excellent interview thank you Dr Brett and the other died doctor folks. I'll be sharing widely and if I could give this interview more to one thumbs up I definitely would. I for one have enjoyed eating more protein specifically animal sourced. I don't miss the added fat to everything and I enjoy the extra energy and increased lean muscle mass. Thank you for all you do.
Diet not died
As I was working on fixing my insulin resistance, I had to keep my protein consumption relatively low and I did have to focus on as close to zero carbs as possible and high fat along with episodes of prolonged fasting. At first I did eat a lot of protein but I wasn’t losing weight and I was getting sleepy after eating (on zero carbs) which was a symptom of the protein spiking my insulin. Fix your insulin resistance first, then focus on getting more protein.
This was AN EXCELLENT WEB MEETING. SO GRATEFUL TO SEE DR ANDREAS.. miss him... Such great info on protein from all speakers.. !! Thank you.. Great !!
This podcast solves ALL of the protein myths. Thank you 🙏🏻
I would advise anyont to keep track of what works for them. For me, and not necessarily anyone else, once I get beyond about 100g of protein per day, I don't like what happens. Blood glucose goes up (possible gluconeogenesis), insulin goes up, for no apparent benefit. If the "more protein is better" idea works for you, good. But it is not true for everyone. Keep track of your own numbers.
I have been low carb/keto/carnivore for years. Initially, I lost 70 lbs with low carb. That was several years ago. I had some success with carnivore, but it was very little. In the end, on carnivore, I started gaining weight. I ran across a video by Maria Emmerich talking about her and her husband's protein sparing diet. In the last month, I've lost 10 lbs. I have had some cravings, but nothing that was long lasting. I'm shocked at the satiety I've experienced. If you're at a loss as what to try next. I do recommend this way of eating.
This was totally awesome. Since I am at a stall I am going to try this. Am a senior woman so it is kind of scary but exciting too.
Excess protein is turned into sugar.
Hello Julie
Great video. Very comprehensive discussions. I’m saving it to watch again.
This has been one of the most enlightening and informing videos, debunking so much false information. I love that diet doctor is heading into the higher protein arena to help guide those of us who eat this way! BRAVO!!! I am excited to sign back and and follow the site again!!!!
I really enjoyed this video. Have always believed in high protein low carb eating without over-hyping the fat.
Me too. I get the trots when I overdo the fat. I also just don't feel satisfied on too much fat. Carnivore works much better for me than keto.
Definitely a great interviewer as well. Thank you so much for this long video!
Thank you! You're a good host, Dr Sher, as usual.
I'm very happy about that new perspective Diet Doctor is taking. I've been eating more protein for 3-4 months now, and I realized how little I was eating before, and how better I feel now. I still can't eat much carbs, probably under 30g per day (at 50g *net* carbs, I definitely feel bloated, etc.), so keto is still the way to go for me. That "super keto diet" is absolutely what I want! I can't wait to try all the new, higher-protein recipes that will be featured.
Very happy and contended with the interview. Few observations.
1.If the goal is longevity, then apart from food, lot many other factors account, i.e. work, marital life, etc. Here in India Prof G V died yesterday, at the of 108, just on plain vegetarian diet.
2. Second climate has got lot to do with food, tropical countries, where heat from sun is high, your energy requirement should be low to say 1000 - 1200 calories per day, again what is the physical work load, that is also crucial.
3. Indian consume very less protein and equally very less animal products, more of high carbohydrates, still, many manage to live beyond 100.
4. Request arrange a pod cast with Dr Pasare C, immunologist, from Cincinnati children's hospital... He has really great understanding of the subject.
Our best wishes to the team.
@@biradarsatishchandra3413 points 1 and 3 - - great longevity in some people, BUT India also has one of the highest (if not THE highest) rates of diabetes in the world. And some people stay lean, but many get fat in older age (like Italians! Maybe the letter "I" is the cause. 🤔😄
Great guests, program. Thank you
I had a lot of questions with regards to the protein and longevity issue and you have answered my questions in this video.
This is probably the most important video out there for keto. I have been keto 7 years, and stalled many yrs becuase Im trying to keep my protein low enough not to do the glucogen thing. Well if you dont get your macros from carbs and trying to keep fat down so you can lose, there is only one more macro. and Thats protein So I end up with 900 calories a day to stay in a 80-90 gram range of protein. And always hungry This video puts the mis information to rest once and forall and makes total sense to me. And why my weight stalled I feel SO much better now and can eat 1500 calories again and lose.
Great video and super helpful questions.
This is an excellent video. These were super interesting and educational. Thanks to all for your expertise. I’m keto, fasted. Lost some wt. stalled. tried carnivore...
I've been modifying my "keto" recipes to replace almond flour with whey or pea protein powders. So far it's been working well. I do still use coconut flour, but not a lot. I'm phasing out almond flour. I don't need the fat and I don't want the Omega-6.
L Dean, I been adding whey protein isolate to my keto pizza crusts, breads, and bars. Love getting the extra protein
@@tunneling-nanotubes for the diet doctor pizza crust I add a quarter cup of whey protein isolate instead of the quarter cup of almond flour.
Pea protein lacks adequate levels of the amino acid called Leucine which is essential for maintaining muscle mass. Also it is mainly sourced from China which has highly questionable food safety standards.
It's interesting to see the Keto conversation evolve from keto to carnivore to low carb. At this point, I describe my diet as "low carb with nutrient-dense foods" which is really mostly protein, butter, eggs, and high fiber vegetables. When you say "keto", people start talking about how fat is bad and I DON'T want to encourage someone eating a Standard American Diet to eat more fat.
learned sooo much on this pod cast... thank you Dr. Scherxxxxx
In the beginning - very over weight. The LCHF/KETO, cutting my carbohydrates was magic. Good all around - as I adapted and the fact that I had become considerably smaller I’ve stalled big time. Thank you for having this talk. Eggs are my go to snack-happy they will continue to be good guys. Will focus on cutting the dietary fat. 👍 It’s a great change for me I’m not going back to carb overload..
Best explanation of Ketone production I’ve heard. Never measured ketones but this put it in sequence.
im so glad your able to get these experts here to who can explain this is simple terms. Its crazy how many arm chair dieticians and fitness gurus who are really promoting false information unknowingly.
This was an excellent discussion. You are such a great host. I’m new to your channel and have enjoyed all the content thus far.
Thank you! Really helpful explaination.
Great information- TY Dr. Scher!
Wow wow I love this podcast! Thank you so much I’ve increased my protein and I’m finally full and losing weight🙏
There is some fantastic information in this video. Thanks! Since most people doing keto are doing it for weight loss and not to treat something like epilepsy, it seems to me that tracking blood ketone levels might not be all that important except perhaps as an occasional check to make sure you're in ketosis. However, I've been hearing and reading so much about the trend to track GKI. I've been doing it myself lately and I wonder if it's truly a useful metric. There is some sense to it, tracking blood glucose levels and ketone levels to see how the body is responding when you're trying to reverse insulin resistance, but maybe simply tracking glucose throughout the day for a few months makes more sense than tracking GKI.
I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on this. Thanks again!
Well done! I wish u had even more discussion about protein versus mTOR in the context of nutrients demand for muscle growth. Does mTOR elevation matter the same if u r weight lifting 5-6 days per week?
This was absolutely fantastic!
Great discussion. It somewhat relieved my concerns about getting too much protein, mainly because of its insuliogenic properties. Maybe I'm overreacting or misunderstanding those youtubers who say high insulin levels drive heart disease.
Fantastic 😁 well done. So real and to the point
I’m glad I subscribed to the app and get personalized meal. Thank you DietDoctor ❤️
Great show! Saved!
This was a really nice podcast. I’ve been trying carnivore-based keto, it’s worked well but I reached a stall with my weight loss. I’m giving this option a try, I think it will be the best for me. Speaking as a moderately active young adult female with goals of body recomposition and weight loss. I’m trying to PE diet, specifically.
Lots of great information! Thank you!
OMG! This is one of the best and informative videos I have seen regarding protein.
THANK YOU ... BEST PODCAST I'VE HEARD ! After more than 20 years of being morbidly obese, my goal is weight loss and body composition .... Thank GOD my kidney function is perfect and I eat WAY over 2 gr per kg in ideal body weight...I think it may be as high as 2 -4g in a day.... I have lost a lot and still need to lose a lot . I've found a way to make 20 grams ..maybe more like 10 grams TOTAL carbs work for me with ....dare I say it .... artificial sweeteners ....It works 6 months later and you'd have to pry those sweeteners out of my cold dead hands !
This is one of the most useful and relevant videos I have seen on this matter. Thank you! Would you also suggest higher protein if one has osteoporosis?

Thank you for sharing wonderful details. Very helpful.... I agree, I've increased my protein much more (age 66); I see benefits, especially good for bones along with resistance training
im 57 years old, 5'-9" tall, 160lbs not a body builder no mater the state of my kidneys, i eat a shit ton of lean meats. i have no limit on my protein. i limit my fat and eat zero carbs and fiber.
Good "food" for thought. I've watched several keto/ carnivore RUclipsrs that state how protein raises blood sugar and to reduce protein creating 80% fat to 20% protein of daily caloric intake. I can't do it. As a diabetic it sounds goid, I just can't eat that much fat after almost 3 years, I still have metabolic issues and fight sugar craving so this information gives me another avenue to explore.
