- The Darklands Legends, Grade 2.5, by Randall D. Standridge. Grand Mesa Music 2017. In three movements, this suite for young band will capture the imaginations of your students and transport them to an amazing fantasy land of musical expression. It is designed to be played as a stand-alone suite, or for an even more expansive undertaking, as movements 2, 3, and 4 of the Darklands Symphony, along with Darklands March (1) and DarkHeart (5). Additionally, the movements can be played as separate, stand-alone pieces, and all are designed to be successful by groups with limited instrumentation or larger, complete ensembles. The entire Darklands Symphony stands alone as a major work for young band, and can easily be the highlight of your students’ band experience.

(I LOVE THIS PIECE)
Why nobosy reply to this
Mr. Randall sure loves his trills. Movement 2 gives me A Nightmare Before Christmas vibes especially the bassoon solo
Music Is My Oxygen It's amazing
But Its Better if You Do Into I Write Sins yes and love the name btw "and isn't this exactly where you'd like me I'm exactly where you like me you know..."
Trills are fun!!
Yes, absolutely. But also like Hollow Knight, yknow what I mean?
The queens masque was my favorite.
I play tuba, and we had no bass clarinet so i had to play that part, and it was fun
Art 2.0 Tubas for life!
How offensive I’m a bass clarinet 😤😂
I play it on tuba too!! I play it just as quiet as a bass clarinet (btw, it is sooooo hard to get it that quite :) )
I wasn't expecting to see a$uicideboy$ profile pic here
Me too
Oh hey I get to be a clarinet solo on this in a couple days. I’m not nervous. You’re nervous.
Jay how did you do?
Jay
We need to know
Jay oh hell no
Jay How did you do.tell us
Gasp, howwww as a friend of a clarinet I can tell that it is hard!
Hi Mr. Randall, i'm from the Valley Mills band in Texas. I just want to say thank you so much for writing this piece. We were one of the first bands to play this entire symphony. I was in the percussion in this piece. This piece gave me so much excitement, and gave me lots of good thoughts because this piece was so extravagant.
Again thanks for writing this.
I also enjoyed Mr. Randall writing these pieces. I play the alto saxophone but the only hard part for me was all of the low notes in measure 33 of darklands 1
@@kingduck1800 THIS IS SO REAL THO
Played this along with the March and DarkHeart, great tunes! ,
So lucky we’re playing March and this piece also a song called The Best of Henry Mancini
John Mabry darkheart is honestly like one of the funnest things to play ever
@@javierquiles953so true, as fun as the mad prince is I will always take a hype timpani part like darkheart
Thx Randall I needed this my middle school band is playing all three movements so I needed a to listen to it a little more
I'm in 7th grade and we are playing this piece in about 2 weeks for our last concert of the year. moment two is definitely the hardest for me( i play clarinet and the staccato notes are hard for me) we sound pretty good though
Heyy you! I‘m playing the clarinet too and it‘s funny bc we also have to play this piece in 2 weeks for my last concert in this music group. And yeah the staccato are definitely hard! We play it a little slower than in this version. But I still tryna be faster and give my best
I'm in 8th grade and playing this piece I play trombone
@@pantherman8555 yo by any chance did u make region in San Antonio cuz this is one of our region pieces for Honor band I made 4th chair tuba
@@memekrab8330 no sorry I dont live in Texas if that's what you are wondering so I'm not in your band
Congrats on 4th tuba
@@memekrab8330 there is county band but I diddnt make it I am 6th trombone and that's kind embarrassing because I had a good chance at being second chair but some 7th graders beat me in auditions
Man that clarinet part that adds the instruments hits so hard at 0:36
Gotta have that wood block
LMAO THAT'S ME 🤣🤣 ALSO, WOODBLOCK ONLY PLAYS ABOUT 7 MEASURES IN THE WHOLE SONG :'D
My band teacher said we will be playing the entire suite in grade 9 and I’m excited as hell for it I can’t wait
YOULL LOVE IT TRUST ME
SAME!
finally it's out thank u Mr. Randall
theres 5 movements tho.... and my conductor wants us to play all 5 in one sitting at the show and he's leaning for no break in between them all
JustSome RandomAsian that’s how multi-movements work. you don’t take breaks in between each movement
That's what we are doing.
Really? My band teacher takes too many breaks. It's so annoying
Same. And I'm the only French Horn, and I have confidence issues.
I loved playing the alto sax for this, especially in The Queen's Masque!
Randal I doubt you’ll ever see this being 5 years late but I would just like to say thank you. Your music is amazing. Our band plays a ton of your songs including fragile and this whole symphony etc. music for a lot of people is a great way to express themselves and your music has been a big part of me doing that. I’m in 8th grade and currently playing mallet 2 for this, chimes for darklands march, and timpani for dark heart. Let me tell you this is one of the most fun I’ve ever had learning parts. It was pretty difficult especially the timpani and marimba part for mad prince but it is a blast. For me I’m doing band to be able to look back after I graduate and look at all the fun memories I made. This is by far going to be one of my favorite memories. So I just wanted to say thank you for being one of the reasons I do what I do. Keep it up and hopefully as I move to high school I continue to play a few of your songs.❤
This was such a great piece and it was so cool to be the first band to play it! We played at a exchange concert
Madyb28 we're playing it as well
Been waiting for three years for this.
I am NOT disappointed!
we did this for competition and we got all superiors from all judges. and we are a mississippi band.
Excellent pieces. Played this in seventh grade, absolutely unforgettable. Thank you Mr. Standridge!!
It is honestly really fun to play the little lick at measure 18 in the first movement as a clarinet, I love this piece
I'm so excited to play this piece soon!! :D
This piece is awesome. I play percussion Player 1, so I have a lot of crap to do, but it's really fun
I love playing trumpet for the queen's masque. it's such a good piece.
Great piece started playing it today and all ready love it soooo much thanks for making this fantastic piece
This is great! I have listened to some of the work you have done, and out of the ones i've listened to my favorite is Compainion of my Voice. My second favorite is my mb's show this year, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
It was great playing the WORLD PREMIERE of this! The MC Band rocked this!
I've played one of your pieces (Darklands March) for Concert Assessment last night and we all got a 1st Division

This peice....is AWESOME I love it....my band director said we may do it next year....btw I am the only bassoon in my band....no pressure at all lol
Im so lucky to be doing these songs in band. Movement 2 sounds so good.
We butchered the first movement in our honor band last night, but gosh darn it was fun
Woah! I'm a clarinet and that solo scares me 😲😅
Playing this for band ❤❤

Taco child1738 yeah , well I actually i play flute but have oboe music
Angel thedemon oh.. I always stick to flute.. Oboe notes are the same but I'm too lazy to play the lower notes.. Lmao
Taco child1738 it's kinda hard to play low c#
Ayyye gang gang 😂(im so late)
Playing trombone in this piece is amazing, except that my peers like blasting during silent parts. I don’t think this piece was meant for 8th grader clarinets either...
We played the first piece in our band and we went hella faster than intended and i had the clarinet solo and if u set the speed to 1.5x then u can hear the speed i had to play for the solo. Heres a tip, dont get tired
At like 3:04 I'm not sure what instrument that is (I would guess but I don't want to offend anyone) but we didn't have it so me (Second chair) and first chair Trombone got to play it.
It is a Bassoon. I hope you enjoyed it!
@@randallstandridge It was very interesting, to say the least. I love the music, though!
@@Fingerpop102 Thank you!
and did you finish the Illustration?
Not yet. Been working on marching band design stuff (I do a ton of that). But the BOOK is coming along.
Ughh i love this piece but omg the first act is hard (i play french horn yay) we're playing it for some kinda competition which idk if has an english name (DM yall norwegian people hopefully understand me), which isn't until march but you know its nice to be prepared
hello fellow basil loving horn player :D
@Basil n' birds omg hii! It's been ages since i wrote that and gosh the cringe.. but yeah! hello, basil is greattt
@@ori2214 i feel that lmao
im trumpet and playing this in my grade 9 band :D
@Basil n' birds oooh nicee! We're currently working on marches for my country's day of independence in late may... We just played gullivers travels by Bert Appermont, though! You should check it out! It's another great piece with tons of variation, and it set a lot of challenges for most of my band hehe.. Super fun to play as a horn too!
@@ori2214 ooh I will check it out! Good luck on your upcoming performance!
sousa 2020 gang wya
the clarinets in my band can never play the staccato part as fast as these clarinetist do.
I am entertainment
I was the only flute on this. So that was stressful
We are learning this and we are only in 7th and 8th...well I’m in 7th and in symphonic band😰
JENNY PEREZ congrats what instrument ? I play clarinet
Pastlel _90 I play flute
I play 4 different percussion instruments for this

Well, yeah. It's part of the symphony...typically, symphonies have parts that relate to themselves. Good ears!
Randall Standridge thank you. Love these pieces and I'm so happy that my band director chose this symphony to play (us percussionists have a blast).

Actually terrified as a freshman playing the solos in my high school band. (Clarinet)
What does grade 2.5 mean?
SnoopDoge936 it means its like medium-high difficulty in terms of high school
its meh hard for middle school at least for mine
My middle sxhool plays 4.5 level so that would be highly advanced level 2.5 is about aberage diffuxultly
noice... dct
Paul Beyer Really? Some grade 7s and I played darklands march(gr 2) in our first half a year... I mean our school has a pretty good music program
Playing this at my concert soon... why do clarinets never get easy part /hj
