So true. I’m 40 years old, grew up with my mom showing me reruns of this show. This still stands as my favorite show of all time. Still entertaining to me after all these years. Definitely timeless
This show isn't as apolitical as one might think. There are several episodes about cross -cultural understanding that I bet some would call "woke" today.
I love Joan Shawnee in this. Her “ he spoke so nice and clear” was a take on Marilyn Monroe’s voice coach diction from no business like show business. Great!
Correctly written, it would be "No Business Like Show Business." As it's written in your comment, it's a mess of a run-on sentence that makes no sense.
Studying the scene at 20:50 we can see that Buddy was clearly aiming his fist at Rob, despite his crack later "I was tryin' to hit Pickles." That kind of humor from Buddy is inappropriate but it somehow fits his character and the era. He and Pickles had a volatile relationship but I cannot believe he would raise a hand against her.
My mom and grandmother had a couple of the frilly robes... it usually came as a set with the nightgown. It wasn't ever practical, it was for being pretty... I haven't seen them in the regular stores since the 60's... just the specialty stores for intimates.
mr bariscale's voice was that of show's producer sheldon leonard who played a gangster in a later episode and is well known for playing the bartender in frank capra's "its a wonderful life."
I grew up in the 1960s, and there was never a time that any adult man ever dressed up like that just to go help a friend in the middle of the night...nor any other time, except for church and funerals.
I was born in the late 1950s. My teachers all had to wear jackets and many had ties. My dad worked in an office and he had to wear a suit and tie. As recent as the mid 80s I worked in a department store and dress code for men was jacket and most wore ties. You must have lived in the sticks.
I was born in '58. We always dressed up when going out to eat or when we were flying. Everyone did. This was still going on in the mid 70's. We flew a lot. Now people go flying in their PJs. Times have certainly changed.
Rob should have sent Laura to speak with Pickles, as he clearly lacks the ability to view the situation objectively without being biased towards Buddy.
I did, at one job I had as a teenager. My fellow employees branded it on me when they learned of my love for dill pickles. I couldn't shake that name the whole time I worked there. Thankfully, it was all in good fun and didn't follow me to any future jobs. 😊
Okay can somebody please answer one question I have about this whole thing pickles just thought out a steak or no it was a frozen steak so she sliced it into very thin pieces and used it as cold cuts they both took a bite out of it are they eating raw steak that's kind of gross
@@caroledwards3289Right. In one episode, the other Pickles said, "My mother was the worst cook in the neighborhood and she taught me everything I know." 😂
It's strange, watching all of these wonderful episodes and the writers going SO far out of the way to make a point of how NO ONE in these episodes or era of shows ever drinks, when all of them drank regularly in real life, like most of us, and some to excess. I drink, and I know I drink too much, but this whole era of pretending that NO one drinks like Buddy here having juice in the bar while breaking up with his wife is comical on a different level. Just like no one smoked even though MTM AND everyone else on the show and she smoked three packs a day (and even on her MUCH successful MTM show it was reiterated Mary Richards did NOT smoke) and both her and DVD had alcohol issues. I'm NOT putting it down, but looking back now and noting how NO ONE drank ..... kind of ridiculous in hindsight and wondering why the producers deemed it such a bad thing.
They smoked on the show. It was the socially acceptable thing to do then. They would have a cigarette box on the coffee table and offer guest a cigarette. Rob smoked in several shows.
Many shows of this era had everyone with a drink. The man was constantly given a cocktail as soon as he gets home from work. This show was geared more to families similar to Leave it to Beaver and they tried for a 'clean image' but there are many shows of that era that had lots of smoking and drinking if that would make you feel better about your habits.
I think this actress was the better pick because of how hysterical her role was, this time. I can't imagine the other actress doing as great a job regarding hysterics.
Because Rob was the reason that Pickles has now stopped sending him money because Floyd no longer could black mail her into sending him money because Buddy already knows the whole story.
Many times in this show they casted the same actor in different roles. Floyd b barascale at the end is Sheldon Leonard who also played big max calvada. Just another example
They always had Jerry and Carl as TV voices. The last voice of Bariscale (?) was Sydney Sheldon, who produced some episodes (or entire season) and was in the episode with his nephew who wanted to be an entertainer but was rotten.
Depends on what you're referring to as his acting; he followed the scripts, didn't ad lib, so actually it was the writers who weren't very good...something I've realized in the last few years after noticing all the lying and deceit that was written into the shows, among all the whininess of both men and women, and the screechy, whiny voice of the kid a great deal of the time.
Richie was the world’s soundest sleeper. That kid slept through parties and fights and everything else!😂
Dozey Doodles, Potato Poopies, this show was so hilariously tongue-in-cheek with commercial products.
Love the Dick Van Dyke shows!
This show is 60+ yrs old and we are still watching it…it shows when we don’t have political inuendos they are timeless!

The voice of Floyd B. Bariscale was Executive Producer (and actor) Sheldon Leonard (no mistaking that voice).

They did not have a volatile relationship at all!
Especially Robert getting a black eye from Buddy and another from Floyd "Owch!!!"
I need to buy a pretty nightie with a frilly robe lol its just so impractical

This actress plays her art least twice in season 2. I benevolent it was a different actress in season 1, but you could look that up....
