You should visit the neighbourhood where Singaporeans live and there's even shopping malls and hawker centers everywhere in most locations or even Jewel Changi airport which is totally free
The maximum fare for any bus, based on the distance traveled, is about SGD 2.50. MRT rides are about SGD 1-3. And, my breakfast which is fish ball noodles with a cuppa coffee would cost ard $5. As a backpacker, should try visiting the hawker centers or local coffee shops which serves much cheaper alternatives than restaurants or cafes. If in doubt, can always try asking any locals...most are willing to help with the relevant info.
Oof. Do your research again mate. 🤣 Eat at the hawker centers. The food there is cheap and delicious at a fraction of the price. It really is not expensive if you know what you’re doing. Gotta get a tourist SIM. Type in cheap eats or hawker center and bob’s your uncle. Well worth it and would have saved you money in just such a situation.

The average travel time is between 15 hours and the longest can be 50 hours You can choose to disembark at any port for ships that transit at certain ports during their voyage. You can choose to get off at the final port or in the middle of the journey depending on where you want to go. For only 150 US dollars you can enjoy the most luxurious ferry cruise in Indonesia with the highest class on the ship. Note: The price of a high-end ferry ticket in Indonesia starts from 40 dollars (IDR 600,000) for a 2nd class room, even 1st class, some ships have prices above 40 dollars for a 2nd or 1st class room, but Most are no more than 50 dollars, some ships are only 50 dollars and can have VIP class with a fairly large room containing two beds.
Thanks for your comment. The problem I have is that my budget is £25 (US$32) a day which is for food, accommodation and transport. So I have to find the cheapest option :(

While I appreciate that you prefer to walk around Singapore to get to places, I don't think you should disparage public transport prices here just because you've got it in your head that Singapore is expensive. Not everyone takes a taxi, Grab/UBER to get where they're going. Like someone in the comments mentioned, the maximum fare for bus or train is approx. SGD2.50. That's based on distance from endpoint-to-endpoint, terminal to terminal, so any stop along the way would cost you less than SGD2. You should try the transport system in Brisbane; before Aug 2024, I was paying approx AUD3.60-AUD4.50 on a bus/train to get to the city from an inner suburb, 4kms away. I don't think you're doing enough research before coming to Singapore. You're looking for expensive places to eat at BECAUSE you think it's expensive. While it is pricier compared to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand et al, their prices are also starting to creep up, mostly due to their currencies getting stronger. Dollar-for-dollar, their cost of living isn't low either. As many have mentioned, open up and ask. We are a little more reserved than our counterparts elsewhere, but if you ask, we generally would chat and help with what you need.
Thank you for your comment :) I’ve not trying to disparage the public transport system, I have a budget of £25 a day which I need to keep to and I’ve found that small amounts do add up. The place I ate at, was recommended by the guy in the hostel when I asked him for somewhere cheap that did a nice breakfast. With no prices on the menu, that should have been a give away :/ From experience travelling, if I go up to someone with my camera and start talking, they’re not interested. If I talk to them without a camera, then they chat away.
@@olderbackpacker Yeah, the camera can be intimidating. Most though, if you let them know you're doing a vlog, they're alright with it. Your daily budget of ~ SGD40 is actually quite workable, including public transport. If you top up that train card you've got, you can actually use it to pay for both necessities at most places (tap on/off at the register, it works like a cash card), and the buses/trains. Yeah, you blew it most of it on the 1st breakfast, but if you plan max. SGD10 per meal (incl. drink) at a mall's airconditioned food court, you're solid. A meal at a hawker centre would cost even less: you can get a meal and drink for max. SGD8.
You are spending a day in Singapore as much amount as 3 weeks in Indonesia and Malaysia. Now I can't wait for your next episode " Swimming back to England" , Just kidding😂. I enjoy your adventure videos. Take care my friend.

I'll be watching your progress Singapore onwards with great interest because I'll probably need to follow the same overland backpacking route to the UK.
