There are a few different things before I use any camera and that is customise my ergonomics and button layout. It is really important to keep the work flow fluid and consistent specially when under pressure and time sensitive.
This video can apply to any camera and any camera brand. This will give you something to think about with your camera and if you are optimising your work flow in the real world.
I do suggest take every setting in and see what works best for you. You may find that some settings are best in other positions but this suits my work flow and I strongly suggest you start changing your custom buttons before you start using your sony a7iv or any other camera.

Thanks for the great tips!! I have found one issue when using my a7iv that I haven’t found a solution for yet. I hope it’s just a wuestion of a setting and maybe you have the answer?
When the display is open the camera switches very well between the viewfinder and the display. The problem is that it doesn’t switch this fast when I close the display with screen side to the camera body. The camera goes in to some kind of inactive mode everytime I close the display. This creates an annoying lag when I want to go quickly from display shooting to viewfinder shooting since I first have to click the shutter button to wake the camera up before I can take the pictures.
Of course you can have the screen ”open” and turned away from the body to work around this ”problem” but I want to keep the screen protected now that you actually can.

Hey Jason hope you can answer a question for me. I am looking at picking up a second camera. I currently shoot with an a7c I do hybrid photo and video mostly outdoor. I have been very happy with the a7c except stabilization. I do have a gimbal however it is impractical for me to carry at times due to weight and size constraints. I am considering an fx30 with a Tamron 17-70 VC for more stabilized video and added benefit of 10bit color, higher bit rates, and frame rates. Or is the better option to go a7IV and use the current lens I have. Or is there a better option for me. Thank you for your time. Lucas
Thanks for the very descriptive video. I've just received my A7iV I'm still tweaking with the settings of the camera. One thing I still couldn't find was settings for the 24fps or 60fps under video mode as I have only got 25fps and 50fps, would you be able to comment how to change those settings into 60fps? Are there any associated settings with that?

This was a great video! I do have a question...need help. I'm trying to set the custom 1/2/3 in video mode but the Av/Tv dials lock when i switch from manual and I can't adjust anything. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

Hey ! Awesome content. I just received my Sony A7IV. But I can only choose frame rates for movies between 25,50 FPS. I do not have the option of 24 FPS. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
Yes, you have to place it into NTSC mode in the settings. It is set in PAL region. NTSC gives you 24, 30, 60 and 120fps
Did they remove the ability to have the focus map? I just got my a7iv yesterday and I don’t have that function in my camera. Just focus peaking like always.

When adjusting the settings in picture mode to raw, then switching to movie mode and going back to picture mode it automatically changes to jpeg all the time, any idea why it won't save the settings? Thanks for the video btw🙌
I can not use Boya Mic with this camera why? When I insert mic in it and test but I can not hear the sound from my record videos, I test Boya mic is still working , so how can I set camera for its work? Thank for reply and wait the answer, thank with noted,.
How did you test the boya mic to see if it works? Must make sure you’re using a TRS 3.5mm audio jack and not a TRRS cord
Nice one bro! I'm all set up, buttons are slightly different places but yeah nice one!. one thing I found as I was going through was the A74 doesnt have 25p h.265 on PAL super weird.. it has 50p but no 25..
Nice, I do all these, though my botton mapping is a bit different! But why have both Clear Image Zoom and APSC/Super-35 buttons if you're using them for the same thing? Honestly thought it was funny that you put Focus Mapping in the Rubbish Bin.

I'm a Hybrid shooter with the Sony A7IV shooting SLOG3. When I take photos my RAW files are way to dark, but looks nice in the view finder. Is there a way to toggle Gamma Displays Assit on for Video and Off for photo? Not sure if this is causing my photos to look dark in Light Room.

honestly I leave the sharpening as is. I prefer the look of what it produces. I do use a mist filter every time i film though. If there was a job i needed a slightly softer look I use my FX6.
Hi, congratulations for the very interesting video. I'd like to ask you a question. For me the stabilization of a camera is very important because I make all my 4K documentaries around the world freehand, without tripods and without stadyshot. I DON'T take pstills. If I had to buy the Sony A7 IV and the Sony FE 24-105mm f / 4 G OSS, could the two stabilizations, both of the camera and that of the lens, work together and in synergy? Do you think the Sony A7 IV with Sony FE 24-105mm f / 4 G OSS might be the right camera for me or is it better that I look to another camera with better stabilization? Thank you very much
This combo works amazingly. I am currently making a video about this. Essentially the lens takes two axis and the ibis takes the other three. There is also active steady shot in camera which crops in but works very well also. I do suggest rig out the camera with side handles and this helps with stability also

Thanks for the video. Just got an A7iv and I'm not used to setting up DSLRs! Quick question, you have zoom and ASC Crop. Do you ever use both and if so, do you lose quality?
because of the 7k sensor quality loss you can barely see. it is better to use clear image zoom and crop mode over post production cropping

I wish I knew how to set the Custom Dial 1 & 2 to my 24fps and 50fps modes and have it remember and keep my last used Aperture, WB and ISO settings. I do not want it to switch to the value it was set at when I first created the Custom Dial setting. I also wish WB was globally set on the camera. So that changing the FPS modes would not change WB. This would be great for running and gunning. Switching between FPS on the dial and the photo mode on the A7IV should not reset my setting back to the original programed dial settings. I cannot switch quickly between photo/video or 24/50fps with out having to mess with a bunch of settings each time the dial is moved. Am I missing something?

I actually have a question on this A7iv, am a youtuber and i just bought the sony A7iv for my video shooting.
After shooting my videos, then i will notice that my image quality is kind of white, my video quality is white,
what should i do?
your exposure might be off. that's the only thing i can think of without seeing the image.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema The exposure is on " M " even though i don,t know why i put it on M. You can confirm my video image by looking at my recent video from my channel "The realluv channel"
@@therealluvchannel361 it needs to be Color graded. Throwing a standard rec.709 LUT on the footage will be enough and you have shot is log Color profile. It’s meant to be flat and then Color grade over the top.

Is the base ISO 800 or 640 on the A7IV? I seem to be getting mixed information on internet searches... Some say that you can shoot in 640 ISO but you'll get the most dynamic range at 800...? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!
I found AF Assist does not work on third party lens. It works on my 24 and 50GM but not 85 Sigma Art DG DN
so i dont have focus mapping on my settings, did they remove it or something, some of the sitting that are shown in the video dont appear on my camera
I thought I had the same problem lol but I was doing the video custome settings in the photo custom button settings tab so that may also solve your problem too. Hope it helps!
Hi Jason, have you been having any issues with the external out put on the a7iv ? On the screen display shuts off when I turn on my external monitor.

I accidentally changed some setting and when tapping the screen bc I want tracking focus on something it changes to spot focus. Anybody know where I can change this? Was on set all day today and could not get focus tracking for the life of me. Thanks for any help!! 🙌🏻 Sony A7IV by the way.
I have an issue where I use my camera on a tripod for hour long shows shooting 1080p video in the webcam mode, the camera will get extreme bright for a few seconds, then returns to normal. I've taken it on and off auto iso, and a few other things. I can't seem to find out what causes this issue. It happens between 4 and 10 times a show! My shows are here on RUclips if anyone would like to see the issue, (drag and drop the video time and look for the picture to get bright in the thumbnail). I can't find anything on this issue, and this is the third A7iv I've tried that does it. It is very strange! Please help!
Great tips, learned a lot here! With the exposure compensation dial, does this generally not work when you're in video mode and also in M mode. I don't have the ISO on auto when in video but I can't seem to adjust the MM to be 2 stops overexposed when in SLOG. Are my settings off somewhere?
Exposure compensation is used in auto or partial auto settings (like aperture priority). So when you're in full manual, exposure compensation is irrelevant because your manual settings are the compensation ;)

Hey, noob question. Why do you have Clear Image Zoom and also APS-C Mode shortcuts? Aren't they the same? What's their difference?
Clear image zoom is a form of digital zoom where as aps-c crop mode actually crops in on the sensor

@@jjansendavid I only use them when needing that extra reach where either I don't want to get too close to the subject (weddings, functions, events, corporate funcitons) or when I physically can't get closer due to restrictions. They are great for prime lenses for extremely quick focal length change
Hi sorry silly question but my camera says clear image zoom is not supported by the F4 24 to 105 lens. And also focus peaking doesn’t come up as an option in operation custom, but it does come up in the normal menu. So basically it seems I can’t shortcut the focus peaking feature. Do you reckon it’s just a firm wear thing or a noob thing? Thanks so much, your videos have been great!

Yes it is actually. I believe only for other a7iv cameras. Not sure about other versions

Has anyone else had problems with the camera overheating by just being on? I turned off auto power off, turned the monitor/finder to monitor only and yet it still pops up an overheating warning after 10-15 mins without even recording or anything 🥺
