Thredup also takes clothing without compensating you, there’s a little disclaimer that they make very easily to miss when you request a bag: they will take “fast fashion” items, and sell them, but will not pay you for them because they claim they don’t make enough money off those type of pieces. Which is ridiculous. They’ve also stolen clothing from me. I sent in a bag of clothing and requested return assurance and when I got my clothing back, their were about 10 items missing. I will never sell with thredup again.
I couldn't imagine giving ThredUp any clothing I cared to make any profit from. I give them what I would otherwise give to the Goodwill because they'll literally pay pennies for items they sell.
I got a bag to sell items to them. I probably sent them 50 things. They kept 18 out of the 50. It took 8 months for all the items to sell.... 8 months to get a whopping $14.00 profit. It's not worth it to sell to them. You won't get much off of luxury items either. Had a friend send them a used $800.00 handbag. They sold it for less than $200 and she got $50.
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the *LVGUCI* book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
Hanger! One of the problems with ThredUp is if you send them a set --a sweater set, or a sheer dress that comes with a slip, or a skirt and blazer suit -they'll separate them and sell each piece, ruining the original concept of the piece. A blazer alone might sell, but the skirt won't, going into a bin and defeating their purpose. They also lose the belt that came with the piece even if you tie it on. In all, for nicer outfits, I think Poshmark or eBay, depending on the brand, offers that kind of control. Thanks for telling us what sold and what didn't.
The downside is how little you get per item. However, when I don't want to deal with selling on my own, it's at least a little bit of return rather than just donating. And I can use that towards new clothes. I've lost thirty pounds this year and I'm up to four boxes. They do take a long time to sort. They've emailed me saying there is a larger delay due to the volume they are receiving. If I have shoes/clothes that are a little more worn out, I'll just put those outside for whoever needs them (I live in Los Angeles).
"ThredUp was hit or miss with delivery times, and I couldn't always trust the condition of the items. Ditchit has totally changed that. Fast, reliable shipping and no surprises in the quality. So glad I made the switch!"
Hanger!!!! I use Poshmark exclusively for years. I am mostly a buyer. There shipping prices are high. As a result it is hard to make money on quality items. Buyers want to always negotiate prices which I rarely do. The shipping process is easy. I would rather go with a consigner store. My clothes are all high end. I am retired all my clothes are in excellent shape and I would not dump them in a box. Appreciate your candor.
is thred up trustworthy for buying? there's a bag I really want but it seems suspiciously cheap. its originally $369 but now it says its $106 and it says its in excellent conditions with little signs of wear
Hello and thank you . I sent 3 boxes last August, so now it’s been a year and I have not received nor seen my pieces online or sold. How in the world do u communicate with this company. I did receive some of my pieces returned about 5 months ago? They are awful. I just want to get through this and be done with them😕. Thank you again. My next step is to report them to Better Business Bureau.
Hanger, I had no idea about ThredUp. I've only known about Poshmark, and I've mainly made purchases from them instead of selling. I'll definitely be looking into ThredUp because I have so much clothes I need to get rid of.
Thank You very informative. I know you can buy "mystery bulk boxes" from them but didn't realize they would sell your items also, but dang, you dont make much at 15% on something $19.99!
Yup, sellers definitely don’t make as much on ThredUP as on other platforms, but thredUP takes its fee bc it does the work for you, so it’s about balancing pay out against convenience! 💸
I donate at least once a year to the good will. they told me they always accept anything anyone wants to donate. I think threadup wants to sell to a recyclers instead of donate to a good will.
Thanks for the vid. I'm having a difficult time selling clothes on Mecari and local apps like OfferUp and Nextdoor and my prices are very reasonable and getting to the stage where I just want them out of my house but after what you said about brands I'm concerned they won't sell on ThreadUP, they are in excellent condition and on trend but almost all are brands from Australia that aren't known in the US :[
Yeah, unfortunately these things can be quite a balance between trying to recoup our “losses” and just trying to make room in our closets. I’ve definitely gotten to the point where I’m just cleaning stuff out (either giving to family or sending to full service places like ThredUP) bc it’s so much work to post and store!!
@@CLSSCCaroline Thanks for the reply. I'm now currently throwing everything in a box and sending to ThreadUP and cutting my losses if I make a couple of bucks that's a bonus!
I too am tired of having useless shit in my house. It’s about time for them to go, they rent moving on the other platforms and im tired of doing all the tedious stuff now. Im over it, just need them out!
Weird they tend to accept 90% of what I send in and 90% of my stuff does sell but it's because I am also mindful of sending things in with the timing of the seasonality too
I sell on ebay and mercari. I source clothing, shoes and some hard goods from the goodwill outlet (pay by the pound). I lot of resellers on you tube have mentioned sending clothes to thred up. I decided to try it to get more profit out of my time spent sourcing. I find plenty of mall brands that look great and are good sizes but they do not resell well on ebay so I leave them behind. I have decided to buy some of the mall brands and send them into thred up. I have sent in two boxes already and I plan to send in 6 more for a total of 8. I decided on 8 since thred up says it takes 8 weeks to process a box. I guess I will know by September if sending clothes into thred up is worth the time and cost of goods. I used to redonate items that did not sell after 6 months to a year. Sending the items into thred up gives me a chance to recoup some of my money.
depending on how bad the items in terms of the condition, thredup might be a bad idea and instead just donate to goodwill or salvation army for a tax write off
Does anyone know more about the rent the runway partner boxes and how they payout? I was under the impression the payment would be instant like the other kits.
Do they charge me if items I shipped are not accepted more than 50%? There is a website called swap and they will charge seller if less than 40% is “accepted “
I have stopped buying from Thredup and absolutely won’t sell from them again. 1) the $14.99 fee 2) lack of control to set prices especially when they messed up, and low balled me. They tried to sell my $390 almost new handbag for $90 and pay me $60. 😤 luckily I was able to raise the price and was payout at $114. 3) Thredup now won’t allow raising the price they set above 10%, I don’t trust them to do so correctly.
I sent them 6 pieces of clothing, all in excellent condition. Sold 4/6 so far, my payout as of now is -2.99. NEGATIVE $2.99. No more selling through Thredup for me. 👎
ThredUp straight up steals your high end items. I had a Furla bag and Farrafamo shoes just dissappear. Your Loft and j.jill will be safe but DO NOT send higher end items.
ive actually wondered that myself with what happens to things that dont get accepted or dont get listed; or if the time frame expires for it to on the site.
ThredUP is not always super clear about it, and I think they should emphasize it more. Eventually I found they either sell in their bulk bundles (without compensating the person who sent them in) or they send to textile recyclers
@@TheRealVivia I haven't seen one advertised for a long time. They only happened at their warehouses. TU used to have retail locations and I'm not sure what's going on there either. They've been an interesting company to watch grow.

It’s faster! And can be more friendly on the environment since you can recycle a cardboard box you already have at home!
