Sweet video! I just had the turbo out of my 2000 7.3 excursion. Put in a set of billowed up pipes. That back clamp was a giant pain. It was backwards also so it made it a bigger pain to get out. Wish I bought a new turbo and pedestal.
It actually didn't defuel. I have a bunch of questions about the PCM in that truck. There are a few things that don't line up. No idea what the previous owner did.
still kicking myself for parting ways with my '00 F250 - the best vehicle I've ever owned. That "Jesus clamp" in the back is a prayer maker for sure. You probably already have one but be sure to keep a spare Cam Position Sensor (CPS) in the truck and a 10 mm wrench (I think I got that right?). The CPS was notorious for failing without warning. I hope your '00 gives you as many smiles and fun memories as mine gave me. Great video and content.
@@paradiselandscapes535 its to the 7 o clock position of the water pump. get one and put it in the glovebox. you will be stranded some day. not if, but when.
I think it was about $1200 or so. It was a pretty big hit in my wallet for sure. I didn't have much of a choice, really. I would have rebuilt my old one, but the wheel got into the housing and chewed it up pretty bad, so new turbo was about the only way the truck was gonna get back on the road.
Dunno how you get your hands in where you need to get them.......I think I'd be cussing a blue streak (personal weakness) but you did a hell of a job. Nothing like a good turbo motor to put a smile on your face.
Thanks, it's cramped for sure, but after working on my GHLS charger, everything seems easier. That thing is a NIGHTMARE to work on. Thanks for the comment!!
So, for clarification, the new turbo is a slight upgrade? If I understood, it's stick size with a slightly better wheel?? I know that recipe made a huge difference on my Detroit
I few reasons, really. On this truck, I'm looking for stock and the least opportunity for headaches down the road. In my experience, every time I "upgrade" for power, torque or speed, it ends up biting me somewhere down the road, usually in the rain, at night far from home. Also, for the last couple thousand miles, I've had the tuner completely unplugged and running the truck bone-stock. If I had gone with the stage 1 turbo, that wouldn't be possible. (or at least not advised per KCTurbos). Plus if I upgrade one thing, it becomes a rabbit-hole and I wind up about a million dollars deep in it.
would have been nice to see the tear down of the old turbo to see what failed.
I didn't tear it down - it's still sitting on my shelf as a core. It was a bearing failure.

7.3 Excursion... The holy grail of SUVs hang on to that thing, they are only getting more valuable. I did up pipes last year too, Good times 😂
Hi how did you get 30 pounds if the tuner was unplugged? Did it defuel over 25? thanks for your videos i watch every single one of them, thanks again

Thanks David! Yeah I keep spare CPS, IPR, IDM and ICP in the truck. Those seem to be the most common "leave you stranded" things
I have a early 1999 F250. Where is that CPS located?

What the heck did that new turbo go for?
That’s almost to fancy for my 99 with 260,000 miles on her

@@ProjectTimeGarage Wowzeers. I won’t be going there new route ❕🤮
@@cowboymcq6711 Yeah, it was spendy to say the least
Fuel might be gone?
Turbo had been sitting for a long time, that's probably why it failed.

Yep, small upgrade, noticable gain.
@@ProjectTimeGarage From what I can tell, the wastegate manifold looks very upgraded from stock as well.
Nice job you made that look easy ;-)
Thanks man!! The miracles of video editing, lol!

👍
Why not get the KC300x stage 1 Turbo. they pair up with Stock injectors also.

@@ProjectTimeGarage thx for sharing your experience. Curious what Tunner did you go with in the past?
