    Hello, I love your videos and I had to write to you and say a big thank you for all that you have taught me about using air dry clay. I'm currently upcycling two old wooden frames I got for $2.00 from a local thrift shop. I cleaned them and sanded them back to take off the old varnish. Now I'm making clay mouldings with a couple of moulds I got from IOD and Redesign With Prima, and then gluing them with wood glue to the sides of the frames. I made some 'slip' just like you taught us to do and it works perfectly for filling in the inevitable cracks that appear in the clay when it dries, although I don't fill in all the cracks because I want the frames to look vintage, not perfect. After I've finished putting the mouldings on, I'll paint the frames with chalk paint, the first layer of paint will be a darker colour, maybe brown or charcoal grey and the top coats will be white, and then I'll distress the paint a little with sandpaper and seal them. So thanks again. Merry Christmas, love from Amanda Jones in Australia ❤

    I love them all but I really love the planter. I have a question for ya, I love air dry clay and I was hoping to try and make my own handles for my resin trays. Do you know if air dry clay will work together with silicone for mold making? Thank you

    • @wiebki
      @wiebki Год назад +2

      I have made silicone molds with air dry clay before. It works pretty well, however you have to make sure your piece is varnished really well so it's waterproof as air-dry clay gets soft again if it comes in contact with water. Probably best to test your varnish with a small piece first, but it definitely can work

    For the planter, what do you use to seal the inside? When you water the plant, does any of the seal coating come off from the water under the plant?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  Год назад

      The plant is left in the plastic plant pot, I tend to take this out, water it, let it drain and then put it back in, only becasue I forget to water it often enough. I put a bit of plastic sheet in there as I showed I would in the video, alternatively plenty of coats of polyurethane varnish like in the waterproofing videos: ruclips.net/video/z0dtdQFQ-wM/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/Q9rCGffLej4/видео.html but I dodn't let them sit with water. • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, on my tiles the dry clay pops right off so I tend to leave them, but some people find they get stuck, in this case roll and cut on a piece of cloth or parchment and then leave them to dry, this would then peel off. Especially to avoid distortion while lifting. Thanks. Happy crafting ❤️

    Very nice video! Do you put the dirt and the plant directly into the vase? I know you said you would a bit of plastic in there to prevent water.
    But how does the excess of water from the the plant run from the vase?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  2 месяца назад +1

      You can most certainly add holes in the base, I just wouldn’t want the water to pour out onto the floor in my home as these are for indoors! I don’t plant the plant directly in, I put them in small pots, like I do for all my indoor plants, then excess water can be poured out, I also often seal the insides with resin

      I wouldn't suggest it... it's not waterproof so it will start to "melt" and eventually break. Plus there are no drainage holes so your plant will drown. A fake plant will work but not a real one.

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  Год назад

      Super, thank you Ismimi, the plant is left in the plastic plant pot and can be placed inside the clay so can be removed from time to time along with any excess water. As shown in the video I lined the pot or you could waterproof like in my waterproofing videos. My clay is not being left damp and the plant is doing just great. 🪴
