Great video, thanks! Does you car have a Harman-Kardon sound system? I'm wondering whether the decoder depends on an HK amplifier. I don't have a HK or Bose system in my W209 (CLK 200), but I do have an optical connection to the amplifier. I bought a decoder that supports ML, GL, R, SLK, W164 W251 (+Porsche Cayenne/Cayman) which I thought should work based on the overlap with the models supported by your decoder, but I don't get any sound. I removed the CD changer but replaced it with an optical loop. My old (COMAND) unit can still produce sound just by being connected to 12V/GND and the optical fibre cable (i.e., all other cables are unplugged). I measured all three connections to the decoder with a multi-meter. The optical connector inside the decoder is blinking and the cable from the vehicle is blinking as well. I wonder whether my Android unit is not sending some commands over the CANBUS to wake up the amplifier or whether the optical decoder box is incompatible.
Thank you! Yes my car has the HK system. Most people that reach out to me because there is no sound, it’s because they got the wrong optic decoder. There was also one person where the decoder was defective and it worked after he replaced it. Good luck
I installed same android 8.0 for 2005 sl500 and some wire color help me out thought the wire management I've been struggling. good description for all wires that help me a lot.
Great Video thank you. I have 2007 C280 W203 with fiber optic orange wires exactly like yours. Before I watched your video, I was planning on getting the decoder and connecting the decoder to Constant +, ACC +, Ground - and the fiber optic from the car harness to the decoder, then the RCA to the android unit AUX out. Would that work? or do I have to do all the steps that you did? Let me know. Thanks
Where do you get the CAN BUS DECODER? Great video. I am starting the same process in a 2007 clk350. That’s the only part in your video that I can’t find.
The CANBUS decoder came with the Android unit I bought. However you can buy on eBay. So i need to get the loop thingy in order to the signal to bounce back ? Can’t i run it with my OEM cd changer ? Or its a matter if my new android head unit is compatible with my cd changer ?
If memory serves me correctly if the cd changer is connected it should still allow for the fiber optic signal to bounce back. If you delete the CD changer then you’ll need the loop.

Usually the decoders are model specific, although they can work with several models. You should search by year, model and make. xtrons.com/car-media-fitting-accessories/fibre-optic-decoder-fobb01
@@MarcoCerqueira yeah, I guess so, optic fiber should be same stuff going through wires, matters the connector. I had to buy a unit with optical bypass, because I'm not removing the original radio but I'm adding a new display.

Do you find that when you use the up and down buttons on the steering wheel to change menu items on dash, outside temp etc, that it makes your head unit change radio station at the same time? This is the only annoying thing that I have found so far! Cheers
Thanks for the kind words. I have not had that problem. I’m thinking you might of tapped into the wrong canbus wires. The buttons on the right of the steering wheel should be the ones that interface with the head unit. Also, it might be the canbus decoder box. I would play with those 2 wires to see if it fixes anything. Good luck.

It’s really a different animal. These android units are more about the features than the sound quality. Remember it still uses the OEM amp and speakers. The issue is that the output signal is being converted into a fiber optic signal. In my opinion you lose some fidelity through that conversion. Like I said, all about the features.
Great video Marco, but honestly I don't believe your Xtrons decoder is still working, I had three replacements and they work for a week so guys I advise to install a new amplifier and get rid off the fibre optic system, less complicated and very much straight forward.
Yes, you have to be creative with where to put the decoders but you can make it fit. Very tight, so be careful to not accidentally unplug or disconnect any wires
Thanks for posting this video, i was close in my build. You helped get me closer. I have no issues with powering on the HU properly. I’m just now having an issue with both of my decoders. The canbus decoder main harness that i received does not work, it has a wire connection going out, for something to plug into it, but I can’t figure out what it’s for. I have the can and acc lines hooked up. As for my fibre optic decoder, i’m running the harmon kardon system, it won’t detect the audio either, could that be because my canbus doesn’t work yet? Either way i’m kind of stumped here as to why some of these companies don’t even bother to provide instructions or diagrams at the least..
Most people that reach out to me with issues has to do with the fiber optic decoder. Either they are malfunctioning or they bought the wrong one. Without the fiber optic decoder you will get no sound. Without the canbus decoder the steering wheel buttons will not be able to control the head unit, but you should still have sound.
@@MarcoCerqueira Alright thanks Marco, I think I was sold the wrong fiber optic decoder, the wire that came with it had canbus lines... should've had ACC instead. It's alright though, the chinese company that also sold me my wiring harness had two external wires coming out of the canbus decoder side, in your video they seem to be wired directly to the main harness, but on mine they want me to plug them into something. I believe they are for the mcu rxd and txd (transmitting and receiving capabilities). pin 14 & 15 on canbus decoder.
I finally diagnosed it as a most issue with the most adapter on not having sound. I do not know how you are able to get sound. Did you have issues with your amp turning on
No issues, once I figured out that I had the fiber optic line disconnected on the CD player. The fiber optic line needs to have a full loop, it needs all feed and return lines plugged in
It comes out of the stereo and it’s supposed to then connect to the amplifier. However, my car model uses fiber optic lines to send the signal to the amp. This is why you need to use the the fiber optic decoder that converts the signal from RCA to fiber optic…good luck
Really appreciate the videos Marco. Does the Canbus decoder also sync the dashboard, especially the analog clock? I want to add a backup camera as well, which is one of my main reasons for changing out the head unit. That means a few more wires in the back. How tight was it to put it all back in?
I have not figured out how to make the analog clock sync or the factory CD changer work. Back up camera should be petty easy, but I ordered a different one from the one that came with the unit

Thanks for the Video Marco, I plugged in the can bus decoder with the harness and the sterring wheel buttons work fine. Do i need to tap into the additonal wires like you have in order to wake up the Sound amp? The most adapter is installed correctly.
If the the steering wheel buttons are working for you leave it has is. These cars car equipped with different options so it might be that you car is slightly different. This is the best video on the internet regarding properly installing a MOST box. (Fiber optic decoder) . My question is where did you attach the yellow , red and brown wires that came with the Decoder? And also where did you plug the power plug that was attached with the fiber optic plug when they where together? Please help I've been stuck for about 3weeks now trying to install the android head unit to my s430 '04.
Okay, so my decoder came with yellow, red and black wires. Black goes to ground. Red goes to 12v ACC ( I used the cigarette lighter). Yellow goes to constant +12v. The only other thing to plug in are the red and white RCA plugs and the fiber optic plug. Hope this helps.
I know it’s a long video, but I show it it in there. I used a fused terminal to tap into an empty slot on the fuse box. When you remove the head unit you should be able to see a grounding terminal. You will see a lot of brown wires tying into a bolt. I know your car is different but finding a good ground should be easy. In the video description there is a link for the fused terminal I used.
wassup bro, im looking to get a radio like this in my s600 03 w220 , should i get this kind of unit? i also have a w211 and i have a pioneer 4100-nex and the sound is amazing but i lost some features like steering wheel and etc
It all depends what your priorities are. More features and apps or sound quality. If sound quality is priority, these android unit will not be better than OEM.
I wanted to instal this unit too but all I need is Bluetooth, I have a cd changer in glovebox in my 06 clk350 is it possible to connect a Bluetooth transmitter or something?
I tried that avenue but couldn’t get it to work, even though it looked like the car was pre-wired for phone. Having said that, I was trying to use OEM Mercedes blue tooth puck like my 2007 E350. If I was you, I would do some research. There might be something out there that might work, especially since your car is newer.
Constant 12v allows for the unit to keep the memory intact. If not you would need to program your radio stations and settings every time you turn the car off.
Ah man thanks for sharing helped out a lot only problem is I still have no sound everything has power everything works but still no sound do u think the decoder is bad
Do you have any fiber optic components that are not plugged in? Think of the fiber optic like a water line. If it is disconnected anywhere along the line you will have a “leak”, so no sound. If you eliminate a component like I eliminated the CD changer, you will need a fiber optic loop.
Did you ever end up getting sound out? I have everything hooked up, all devices, and still no sound. I'm suspecting the fiber box is either bad or just doesn't work.
I have 05 w211 and my head unit recently died. Shows Mercedes logo and shuts off..My question is: would new unit work if my amplifier (I think that's the problem) is broken or I have to repair that issue first? Thanks..
I would say if your amp was the problem, you would have no sound. However it it shuts off completely, it might be something else. Does it play anything via blue tooth off you phone? Do the speakers work when you make a Bluetooth call?
@@MarcoCerqueira Thanks for quick answer! Screen turns on shows, mercedes logo and turns off. It's completely useless, recently dead circle about one inch radius showed up,when I changed audio amplifier..I decided 100% to put android unit, just wondering can it work if existing system has troubles.Thanks..
Hey man, I really appreciate you posting videos about your install. I definitely know that I need a fiber optic decoder since I have those 2 Fiber Optic lines that run to the CD changer and my amp. Although I was originally having issues with my radio before which I thought it was the head unit(Not Command, Just stock) since there was no sound coming out. I've read on the forums that my 2005 c230k usually have problems with the amp going out. I bought the same Head unit as yours but when I plugged it in, theres no sound coming out. Would you say that its probably the amp thats out? and do you thing I should just rewire the system with a after market amp? what are your thoughts?
The unit does have RCA style cables if you want to replace the amp with an aftermarket setup, so it can be done. Just be prepared to run all new wiring to amp. Good luck on the install.
Hi Marco, great video. I have a fibre optic decoder Andy a new Teyes CC3 android unit it's going into my mercedes CLS. Can you please post a wiring diagram of how to get it to power on etc and where to hook up the power cables please.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I really enjoyed watching this series, very thorough and descriptive. Its always an adventure tossing in new head units into Benz's. I am curious how you managed to get your behind the radio area organized. It doesn't look like you have run into communication issues on the canbus, but if you do have issues, twist your can+ and can- in the same direction to how they are where you have tapped in (twisted pair), that will reduce crosstalk on the network. I have run into that on a couple of installs. You could change your pinouts on the aftermarket harness see ruclips.net/video/Ou6kyLxfGj0/видео.html most adapters can be rearranged when the manufacturer doesn't get it right, happens more than you would think.
Thanks for the comments. I’m sure it will help others doing a similar installation. Wire management was was not easy. I made some of the wire leads a little longer and fit the Canbus decoder box and fiber optic box behind the ashtray area. That made a little extra room for the other stuff.
I had to just plug it in until I ordered the fiber optic loop. You cannot have a break in the fiber optic line or you lose the signal. The cd changer keeps the signal intact until you get the fiber optic loop to take its place
I cannot for the life of me get the decoder to work. I plugged everything in right, but no audio comes out from the head unit. I tested the head unit separately and sound does go out to an external speaker, but the decoder turns on and that’s about it.
Are you sure everything running on fiber optic is plugged in? Do you have a CD changer? Think of it like a water line. If anything is unplugged the signal is lost. This is why I had to buy a loop for the fiber optic when I removed the cd changer in the glove box.
I know this is old. Mark I hope they refunded part of what you paid for this. The problem is they have half of the units they supply saying they’ll support certain models when in reality they don’t. I”d bet the first HU they recommended to you was the one that has the proper hookups and so on. No way you should spend 1000+ in the end and still. Have to splice any wires to make this work. Don’t get me wrong SEICANE has the most OEM look with all the modern amenities that most prefer when updating their systems into the present day. One example though Joying has an Android 10.0 that is 1/3 the price is straight plug and play with an updated dash piece. Also the rear is single din so you’re able to fit all the extras in the back so much easier. It also has wireless Apple Carplay and now wireless Android Auto. I only post this as I’ve seen this happen to too many Mercedes owners and it’s frustrating to see. I also have a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 that I’ve put a double din kit in and for those that don’t know the SRT6 is basically an SLK 32 AMG the only difference being the body panels, wheels and it’s a coupe and soft top compared to the hardtop convertible the SLK is. In fact they share 80% of all the mechanical and chassis parts. I only put this as SEicane claims they have a double din HU for an R170 but none of them ever came with a double din unless the owner had it modified to take one and I highly doubt any aftermarket company would build a HU specifically for that platform. www.joyingauto.com/joying-8-inch-car-radio-for-mercedes-benz-w203-w209-2002-2006-plug-and-play.html

Not sure with those type of units, but I would think that they will need to have CANBUS compatibility
excellent video, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello, do you know how to resolve the problem with a 2007 CLK350 (W209) and an Android Unit? Everything works except the sound
Are you running a fiber optic decoder?
OK YES I DO HAVE THE DECODER
Does your menu with audio on the dash still work because mine is just showing ---- even when playing music.
Do you know any fix for the problem?
Are you able to control the stereo with your steering wheel buttons, such as volume, etc?
@@MarcoCerqueira Yes
@MarcoCerqueira I saw something online about settings called canbus, but it needs a pin to access them
Did you install a Canbus decoder? You will need that for all the systems to communicate
@MarcoCerqueira I dont know because i bought the car with it, so this could be the problem
What's the point of the 12v constant that you added? Like why add it?
Again, it sounds like your head unit has the problem, not the amp. What do you have to lose, unless you are planning or getting rid of the car.
@@MarcoCerqueira Yeah, that's the way I'm thinking too..Thanks bro for, answers..
Good luck buddy
This might be the problem. The anntenna wire works as a remote turn on for the amp
Thank you for sharing
Thank you soooo sooo soo much
great info man.
Thanks for the effort Marco! Do you want to sell the CD changer?
I have a CD changer to sell if you still want one.
the blue antenna wire should be connected to a 12v supply
Hi Marco, great video. I have a fibre optic decoder Andy a new Teyes CC3 android unit it's going into my mercedes CLS. Can you please post a wiring diagram of how to get it to power on etc and where to hook up the power cables please.
Please email me and I can send you the PDF. Cardaytoday@gmail.com
@@MarcoCerqueira sent :)
Thanks men!!!
That made a little extra room for the other stuff.
what do you mean had to reinstall cd changer ?
What kind of head unit are you using
If you go to part 1, there is a link to the head unit. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already.

do you speak spanish to explain it?
No sorry
Marco Cerqueira, when you splice the red and orange wires to ACC 12v, you both do it with one from the ashtray right? in the video I see that the ashtray cable is black and yellow?
Yes on my car the cigarette lighter uses black and yellow wire for ACC 12V. Email me and I can send you the wiring diagram. Cardaytoday@gmail.com
