Thanks for the thorough tutorial. My rack came with damaged packaging so I was worried parts where missing as the picking slip disnt match up with what I had but your video helped put my mind an ease
Thanks for yr help. I followed thru ur instructions step by step on setting up the front runner rack on my Jimny… the instruction manual from the package really confusing!!

Great video and much preferable than following the enclosed instructions. Altho' after spending a bit of time installing the wind deflector, the step which followed (legs) meant I had to remove the wind deflector haha. Happy with the end result and thanks again for helping luddites like myself figure it all out.
Based on the order of instructions (and the order of this video) I bet everyone installing this rack has to remove the wind deflector to get the front legs on! Myself included!
@@highergroundlifestyle How do you slide the bolts for the clamp on to the first slat, if the bolt holes are covered by the wind deflector? Or am I doing something wrong?
Good tutorial. As you’ve had both the Front Runner and D.I.R. racks, which do you prefer? How is the fuel consumption with the rack attached and how well does it drive compared to without the rack.
They both do different jobs really! DIR looks great, FR works great. I never really carried anything on the DIR whereas the FR is used all the time. It also takes my FR Roof Tent!
N thanks really appreciated the video which helped enormously compared with the instructions which were harder to follow. Quick question on all weather tyres did you raise the suspension of go with the same size tyre on the standard wheels? Say well Nick
Hi. Would you recommend to use locticte adhesive on the screws when assemblying the roof rack?..would that make sense?...it is a nice rack, hope they can sell and send to Mexico...regards!
Hi Hombre! Good question. I’d say no for 2 reasons: 1) All supplied nuts are either nyloc or used with locking washers and 2) A regular check of torque is probably sensible routine maintenance in any event. Just my thoughts of course. Stay safe my friend! N
Hi, Front Runner advise that you should NOT place any rubber between the legs and the gutter - they insist on metal to metal contact. However, I did use some cut fuel tubing as gasket material and have had no problems. Just keep checking that it is in situ and hasn’t deteriorated! Best wishes. N
Hi, the roof loading is a dynamic number so not an issue when stationary. No issues at all and their are cars out there with a lot more weight on the roof.
Greetings from Oz what a legend for this video!! Dis not have to use instruments because of your guidance .. I know you put rubber where it touched gutter on top ( cannot understand why FF did not supply) did you put rubber as well below the rain guard? Thanks again!!! Stay safe
Thanks cobbler! I put rubber everywhere theres metal to metal contact! FR asked me not to show this as they will only guarantee products where there is metal to metal contact! I think the fear is the rubber deteriorating and the rack getting loose. They’re a great company and actually just looking after their customers!
Thanks for the review! Just wanting to confirm, whether this is the standard height Slimline 2 rack you have or the tall version Slimline 2 rack? I’m having trouble deciding which is the best buy for my circumstances.
Hi, thanks for your comment. This is the standard height rack. As you will see, the wind deflectors are within a few mm of the roof. Personally - and especially on the Jimny - I’d want to keep the c of g as low as possible. Best wishes. N
Hey mate, thanks for this video. Helped me install mine. Question though, where do the legs fit exactly on the gutter? It’s strange but the clamp above the driver and passenger door seem to impeding (ever so slightly) the door when you open and close? Did you get this? I can’t figure it out but the clearance is not enough from the clamp. Wish I could send you a photo. Have you got an email? Not sure if you having this problem.
OllyFoRealz The gap between the door tops and rack legs is minimal (3-4mm only) but it is there. I also used rubber tubing between the legs and the gutter to avoid metal to metal contact which also had the effect of raising the legs by 2-3 mm. I didn’t mention this in the video because Front Runner believe that metal to metal clamping is important for security. If you want you can send me a message via my Higher Ground Lifestyle Facebook page. Cheers. N
Hello sir, first of, thank you for the very informational instruction videos. like you, i am the proud owner of a Jimny!😁 like you i also purchased and installed the slimline 2 roofrack (the regular one, not the tall one). and like you i also received two different sizes of wind deflectors. i called frontrunners and they told me either would do fine, but upon fitting the rack i noticed the deflectors were touching the roof. which one did you install in the rack? sincerely, Jan
Jan Eijk Hi, must confess that I didn’t pick up on the fact that the deflectors were different sizes! One of mine came in the rack kit, the other with the legs and roof tent mount kit. The one I used came in the rack kit and clears the roof by around 5 - 10mm. It is closest to the roof where it becomes ribbed and, as reported in the video, has resulted in zero wind noise. Let me know if specific dimensions would help! Cheers. N
storminatwork at Higher Ground Lifestyle i received a 20mm and a 45mm deflector, i dont know which one’s you received with your tent. i myself will add a rooftop tent from frontrunners next year 😀 as my wife and i are planning touring the highlands next year. by the way, is the tent large and comfortable enough for two adults? cheers
frostyOAT, thanks. I effectively waited just over a year for Jenny Jimny (JN11). Jimmy Jimny (JM11), my first one, I waited around 9 months for - although I started visiting the dealer about 18 months before that and followed the Gen 4 from early concept. Love them - but you may have worked that out already!
Hi, I measured up and used the one that gave me about 5-10 mmm clearance between the deflector and the roof. Can’t recall whether that was the large or small one. Sorry. Very little wind noise though - superb!
@@highergroundlifestyle I have seen this video mate I was just wondering do you still like it on the jimny, would you have preferred something else etc

I agree. The instruction manual they gave me was a universal one with a picking slip that didn't reflect what I was given so it was confusing as hell
The way you handle all your equipment makes me want to buy your car in future.

Could you please team me the length breath and height of the rack from the roof. Thanks
What a great video!! Thanks!! Keep Doing please
Thanks Marco!
My slats will not slide in as easily as yours did. Any hints on why?
Tightened the end bolts too much? ...or maybe everything not sitting square?
Do you have the high or the low feet ?
