    It must be really satisfying at harvest time to see the outcome of all yours and your colleagues endeavours throughout the year - especially in the light of all the adversaties of bad weather and spiralling costs for fertilisers and fuel. Hope the yield and prices reward you all properly. As a consumer, thank you for all the hard work of the whole farming community. PS - found the discussion on Beans with the guy from Warwick University very interesting.

    As a livestock farmer I'm crying seeing the straw been chopped as I need the bedding

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад

      There’s three reasons why we chop.
      1. We have a zero tolerance to Blackgrass and spend £35,000 a year on hand pulling and bakers are one of the worst machines for moving Blackgrass from Farm to farm.
      2. We are always trying to improve organic matter and Straw has huge value to do that.
      3. This Harvest been interrupted by rain, the Straw trails are continually getting wet and have to be moved before bailed, causing compaction and the delay to cultivation and establishing the next Crop.
      I do appreciate you need straw though and I think there’s enough straw being baled to fulfill demand.

    Good to see the combine rolling Andrew. Even though it's 41 years since the NCB purchased our farm for open casting, (coal extraction) we were tenants so powerless to stop it, but i still remember clearly the buzz and anticipation of the first day of harvest. For me personally there's no other job like it, i spent 22 years as a coal miner and over 19 years with the NHS, but neither compare with farming . Hope the weather allows the combines to keep rolling as you all need a break, but most importantly, stay safe.

    It's heart warming Andrew to start one's harvest with the sun high in the sky and the crop dry and we ready to go. It's a real difficult harvest here with combines being rained of almost every day we go out. My own experience this year has been take a loss with high moisture or loss tonnes to the weather, so 24+% it was with 19% being the lowest. But hi great video and as always very informational, a safe and prosperous harvest to you all.

    Nice to see youve started. We started our wheat today after nonstop rain its quite flat and starting to grow. Year before last we changed our combine to a much larger one and this year its really paying for itself. Hope your harvest goes smooth and yeilds are good.

    • @SpudSlingsby
      @SpudSlingsby Год назад

    Cracking video Andrew and really glad you’ve got going with harvest and let’s hope the weather is kind to you now for a while so you can crack on and get some combing done, it’s a shame I’m all the way in cornwall because I’d definitely have one off those boxes off sugar sticks for the restaurant, but you never know I may be passing at some point to collect one 😂

    Hi Andrew your calculation might be a little wrong I think of a sq foot to sq meter. 3ft by 3ft equals a meter so roughly 9 square foot in a meter not 3 at 0.3m squared in the calculation. Very informative videos well done
